Područja amazonske prašume veličine Engleske mogla bi biti ugrožena novim rudarenjem i krčenjem šuma, tvrdi se u novom izvješću. Trenutačno je protuzakonito rudariti na ovim zaštićenim autohtonim područjima Amazone. No, brazilski predsjednik Jair Bolsonaro želi to promijeniti kako bi omogućio više iskorištavanja za gospodarski razvoj. Američke i britanske tvrtke su među onima koji su se prijavili za otvaranje novih rudnika.

Zaštita Amazone ključna je u borbi za suzbijanje klimatskih promjena jer njezin ogroman broj stabala upija ugljik iz atmosfere. Tisuće autohtonih ljudi koji žive na ovim područjima također su ugroženi novim razvojem događaja. "Gledamo na krčenje šuma u nekim od najnetaknutijih područja Amazone. Bit će tragedija ako se nastavi s rudarstvom na autohtonim zemljama", rekla je istraživačica Rosana Miranda, koja je napisala izvješće za nevladinu organizaciju Amazon Watch, za BBC News. "Jesmo li se spremni odreći nevjerojatno bogate biološke i kulturne raznolikosti samo da bismo izvukli više zlata i bakra za međunarodne dioničare?" dodala je.

Ukupno je 570 tvrtki podnijelo zahtjev za dopuštenje za početak rada u područjima koja utječu na 260 autohtonih zemalja i pokrivaju 101.000 četvornih kilometara. Gotovo polovica se bavi rudarenjem zlata.

Rudnici koje vode globalne korporacije u Amazoni povezuju se s izlivanjem toksičnih tvari, onečišćenjem rijeka kao i uništavanjem autohtonih zajednica. Alessandra Munduruku iz starosjedilačke skupine Munduruku je aktivistica koja brani autohtone zemlje. "Ono što je na kocki u ovom rudarskom projektu je smrt: smrt rijeka, smrt šume, smrt ljudi, smrt kulture, smrt jezika", poručila je.

U izvješću se također tvrdi da ogromne količine međunarodnih financijskih sredstava podupiru rudarske tvrtke, što sugerira da su dioničari diljem svijeta uključeni u krčenje šuma Amazone. Amazon Watch je otkrio da globalne financijske organizacije Capital Group i BlackRock drže udjele vrijedne 13,2 milijarde dolara u tvrtkama koje pokušavaju rudariti autohtone zemlje. Ukupno je osam velikih rudarskih tvrtki dobilo 54,1 milijardu dolara financiranja od banaka ili upravitelja imovinom na globalnoj razini u razdoblju 2016.-21., tvrdi se u izvješću.

Capital Group je rekao da ne komentira svoje vlasništvo. BlackRock nije odgovorio na optužbe, ali je istaknuo svoje smjernice, koje kažu da "BlackRock Investment Stewardship vjeruje da je važno da tvrtke dobiju slobodan, prethodni i informirani pristanak autohtonih naroda za inicijative koje utječu na njihova prava." Zahtjevi su trenutno podneseni brazilskoj agenciji za rudarstvo. I dalje je protuzakonito razvijati ova netaknuta i iznimno bioraznolika područja Amazone.

No predsjednik Bolsonaro kaže da je potrebno otvoriti prašumu za novu eksploataciju i izvući zajednice iz siromaštva. On je Kongresu predložio nacrt zakona koji bi omogućio iskorištavanje tih zaštićenih područja. Tvrtke koje su podnijele zahtjev za pravo na rudnik bile bi prve na redu, kaže Amazon Watch.

Na summitu COP26 o klimatskim promjenama u Glasgowu prošle godine, 141 država, uključujući Brazil, potpisala je deklaraciju o zaustavljanju i preokretanju krčenja šuma do 2030. i zaštiti autohtonih zemalja.

Područja amazonske prašume veličine Engleske mogla bi biti ugrožena novim rudarenjem i krčenjem šuma, tvrdi se u novom izvješću. Trenutačno je protuzakonito rudariti na ovim zaštićenim autohtonim područjima Amazone. No, brazilski predsjednik Jair Bolsonaro želi to promijeniti kako bi omogućio više iskorištavanja za gospodarski razvoj. Američke i britanske tvrtke su među onima koji su se prijavili za otvaranje novih rudnika.

Zaštita Amazone ključna je u borbi za suzbijanje klimatskih promjena jer njezin ogroman broj stabala upija ugljik iz atmosfere. Tisuće autohtonih ljudi koji žive na ovim područjima također su ugroženi novim razvojem događaja. "Gledamo na krčenje šuma u nekim od najnetaknutijih područja Amazone. Bit će tragedija ako se nastavi s rudarstvom na autohtonim zemljama", rekla je istraživačica Rosana Miranda, koja je napisala izvješće za nevladinu organizaciju Amazon Watch, za BBC News. "Jesmo li se spremni odreći nevjerojatno bogate biološke i kulturne raznolikosti samo da bismo izvukli više zlata i bakra za međunarodne dioničare?" dodala je.

Ukupno je 570 tvrtki podnijelo zahtjev za dopuštenje za početak rada u područjima koja utječu na 260 autohtonih zemalja i pokrivaju 101.000 četvornih kilometara. Gotovo polovica se bavi rudarenjem zlata.

Rudnici koje vode globalne korporacije u Amazoni povezuju se s izlivanjem toksičnih tvari, onečišćenjem rijeka kao i uništavanjem autohtonih zajednica. Alessandra Munduruku iz starosjedilačke skupine Munduruku je aktivistica koja brani autohtone zemlje. "Ono što je na kocki u ovom rudarskom projektu je smrt: smrt rijeka, smrt šume, smrt ljudi, smrt kulture, smrt jezika", poručila je.

U izvješću se također tvrdi da ogromne količine međunarodnih financijskih sredstava podupiru rudarske tvrtke, što sugerira da su dioničari diljem svijeta uključeni u krčenje šuma Amazone. Amazon Watch je otkrio da globalne financijske organizacije Capital Group i BlackRock drže udjele vrijedne 13,2 milijarde dolara u tvrtkama koje pokušavaju rudariti autohtone zemlje. Ukupno je osam velikih rudarskih tvrtki dobilo 54,1 milijardu dolara financiranja od banaka ili upravitelja imovinom na globalnoj razini u razdoblju 2016.-21., tvrdi se u izvješću.

Capital Group je rekao da ne komentira svoje vlasništvo. BlackRock nije odgovorio na optužbe, ali je istaknuo svoje smjernice, koje kažu da "BlackRock Investment Stewardship vjeruje da je važno da tvrtke dobiju slobodan, prethodni i informirani pristanak autohtonih naroda za inicijative koje utječu na njihova prava." Zahtjevi su trenutno podneseni brazilskoj agenciji za rudarstvo. I dalje je protuzakonito razvijati ova netaknuta i iznimno bioraznolika područja Amazone.

No predsjednik Bolsonaro kaže da je potrebno otvoriti prašumu za novu eksploataciju i izvući zajednice iz siromaštva. On je Kongresu predložio nacrt zakona koji bi omogućio iskorištavanje tih zaštićenih područja. Tvrtke koje su podnijele zahtjev za pravo na rudnik bile bi prve na redu, kaže Amazon Watch.

Na summitu COP26 o klimatskim promjenama u Glasgowu prošle godine, 141 država, uključujući Brazil, potpisala je deklaraciju o zaustavljanju i preokretanju krčenja šuma do 2030. i zaštiti autohtonih zemalja.

Područja amazonske prašume veličine Engleske mogla bi biti ugrožena novim rudarenjem i krčenjem šuma, tvrdi se u novom izvješću. Trenutačno je protuzakonito rudariti na ovim zaštićenim autohtonim područjima Amazone. No, brazilski predsjednik Jair Bolsonaro želi to promijeniti kako bi omogućio više iskorištavanja za gospodarski razvoj. Američke i britanske tvrtke su među onima koji su se prijavili za otvaranje novih rudnika.

Zaštita Amazone ključna je u borbi za suzbijanje klimatskih promjena jer njezin ogroman broj stabala upija ugljik iz atmosfere.
