Dio pandemijske štete o kojoj se ne priča dovoljno je i činjenica da je velik broj djece ostao bez roditelja odnosno skrbnika. Novo istraživanje o kojem izvještava Guardian otkriva kako je od travnja 2020. do lipnja ove godine više od 140 tisuća djece u Americi (mlađih od 18 godina) ostalo bez roditelja ili skrbnika.
Bolest ne samo da nesrazmjerno ubija odrasle osobe iz manjinskih zajednica već dio tereta ove „skrivene pandemije“ nose i djeca.
Iako rasne i etničke manjinske skupine u SAD-u čine oko 39 posto stanovništva, provedena studija pokazuje kako je čak 65 posto djece koja su zbog pandemije izgubila roditelja ili skrbnika upravo iz tih zajednica.
"Smrt roditelja ogroman je gubitak koji može skroz preoblikovati djetetov život", rekla je Nora Volkow, ravnateljica nacionalnog instituta NIDA.
"U usporedbi s drugom djecom, djeca domorodaca na Aljasci imala su 4,5 puta veću vjerojatnost da će izgubiti roditelja ili skrbnika s bakom ili djedom, crna djeca su bila 2,4 puta vjerojatnija, a latinoamerička djeca 1,8 puta", rekla je Nida.
Studija je bila suradnja Centra za kontrolu i prevenciju bolesti (CDC), Imperial College London, Sveučilište Harvard, Sveučilište Oxford i Sveučilište Cape Town. Istraživači su koristili podatke o mortalitetu, plodnosti i popisu stanovništva kako bi procijenili siročad povezanu s Covidom, koju definiraju kao smrt jednog ili oba roditelja ili smrt djeda i bake koji su bili primarno odgovorni za brigu o djetetu ili su živjeli u istom domaćinstvu kao i roditelj i pomagali u brizi za dijete.
"Suočavanje s gubitkom koji su ta djeca doživjela-i nastavljaju doživljavati-mora biti jedan od naših glavnih prioriteta i mora biti utkan u sve aspekte našeg hitnog reagiranja, sada i u budućnosti nakon pandemije", rekla je Susan Hillis, istraživač CDC -a i vodeći autor studije.
Studija je također otkrila zapanjujuće geografske razlike među djecom manjina koja su pogođena smrću od Covida.
Kalifornija, Texas, Florida i New York, države s najvećom populacijom, imaju najveći broj djece koja su izravno ili neizravno izgubila primarnog skrbnika od Covida. Istraživači su također otkrili da je "u južnim državama uz američko-meksičku granicu, uključujući Novi Meksiko, Teksas i Kaliforniju, između 49% i 67% djece koja su izgubila primarnog njegovatelja bila hispanske nacionalnosti".
Nasuprot tome, 45-57% djece u jugoistočnim državama Mississippi, Alabama i Louisiana, koja su izgubila primarnu skrb, bila su crna. Većina djece Indijanaca/domorodaca Aljaske koja su izgubila njegovatelja boravi u Arizoni, Novom Meksiku, Oklahomi, Montani i Južnoj Dakoti.

Dio pandemijske štete o kojoj se ne priča dovoljno je i činjenica da je velik broj djece ostao bez roditelja odnosno skrbnika. Novo istraživanje o kojem izvještava Guardian otkriva kako je od travnja 2020. do lipnja ove godine više od 140 tisuća djece u Americi (mlađih od 18 godina) ostalo bez roditelja ili skrbnika.
Bolest ne samo da nesrazmjerno ubija odrasle osobe iz manjinskih zajednica već dio tereta ove „skrivene pandemije“ nose i djeca.
Iako rasne i etničke manjinske skupine u SAD-u čine oko 39 posto stanovništva, provedena studija pokazuje kako je čak 65 posto djece koja su zbog pandemije izgubila roditelja ili skrbnika upravo iz tih zajednica.
"Smrt roditelja ogroman je gubitak koji može skroz preoblikovati djetetov život", rekla je Nora Volkow, ravnateljica nacionalnog instituta NIDA.
"U usporedbi s drugom djecom, djeca domorodaca na Aljasci imala su 4,5 puta veću vjerojatnost da će izgubiti roditelja ili skrbnika s bakom ili djedom, crna djeca su bila 2,4 puta vjerojatnija, a latinoamerička djeca 1,8 puta", rekla je Nida.
Studija je bila suradnja Centra za kontrolu i prevenciju bolesti (CDC), Imperial College London, Sveučilište Harvard, Sveučilište Oxford i Sveučilište Cape Town. Istraživači su koristili podatke o mortalitetu, plodnosti i popisu stanovništva kako bi procijenili siročad povezanu s Covidom, koju definiraju kao smrt jednog ili oba roditelja ili smrt djeda i bake koji su bili primarno odgovorni za brigu o djetetu ili su živjeli u istom domaćinstvu kao i roditelj i pomagali u brizi za dijete.
"Suočavanje s gubitkom koji su ta djeca doživjela-i nastavljaju doživljavati-mora biti jedan od naših glavnih prioriteta i mora biti utkan u sve aspekte našeg hitnog reagiranja, sada i u budućnosti nakon pandemije", rekla je Susan Hillis, istraživač CDC -a i vodeći autor studije.
Studija je također otkrila zapanjujuće geografske razlike među djecom manjina koja su pogođena smrću od Covida.
Kalifornija, Texas, Florida i New York, države s najvećom populacijom, imaju najveći broj djece koja su izravno ili neizravno izgubila primarnog skrbnika od Covida. Istraživači su također otkrili da je "u južnim državama uz američko-meksičku granicu, uključujući Novi Meksiko, Teksas i Kaliforniju, između 49% i 67% djece koja su izgubila primarnog njegovatelja bila hispanske nacionalnosti".
Nasuprot tome, 45-57% djece u jugoistočnim državama Mississippi, Alabama i Louisiana, koja su izgubila primarnu skrb, bila su crna. Većina djece Indijanaca/domorodaca Aljaske koja su izgubila njegovatelja boravi u Arizoni, Novom Meksiku, Oklahomi, Montani i Južnoj Dakoti.
