Falklandski rat, vođen je između Velike Britanije i Argentine od 2. travnja do 14. lipnja 1982. nakon neuspjelih pregovora o prijenosu suvereniteta nad Falklandskim otočjem. Argentinsku vojnu invaziju na Falklande (2. travnja) i na otoke Južna Georgia (3. travnja) osudilo je Vijeće sigurnosti UN-a. Posredovanjem SAD-a, Perua i UN-a neuspješno se pokušavalo sporazumno riješiti problem, a Europska je zajednica Argentini uvela ekonomske sankcije, piše Hrvatska enciklopedija Leksikografskog zavoda Miroslav Krleža.
Glavnina britanskih snaga s oko 6000 vojnika isplovila je 5. i 6. travnja iz Velike Britanije prema Falklandima. Na putu od oko 13 000 km logistički oslonac i baza bio im je otok Ascension.
Britanske snage porazile su argentinske na otocima Južna Georgia (25. do 26. travnja), a na Falklandima u borbama vođenima kod San Carlosa (21. svibnja), Goose Greena (28. svibnja) i kod Stanleyja (13. do 14. lipnja). U Falklandskom ratu poginulo je oko 250 Britanaca i oko 650 Argentinaca. Ratni ishod rezultirao je u Argentini padom predsjednika L. Galtierija, dok je u Velikoj Britaniji učvrstio položaj premijerke M. Thatcher. Međudržavni odnosi normalizirani su u polovicom 1990-ih.

Britanski simbol na Falklandu
Nakon argentinske okupacije Velika Britanija je s drugog kraja svijeta poslala flotu koja je nakon prevaljenog puta od 13.000 kilometara otočje vratila pod britansku zastavu. Locke smatra da je obilježavanje 40. godišnjice ovog povijesnog događaja kod lokalnog stanovništva samo pobudilo negativna sjećanja.

"Mnogi civili ovdje nakon rata pate od posttraumatskog stresnog poremećaja (PTSP). Rat je za mnoge bio prekretnica u životu", kaže Locke koji je služio kao mornar na jednom vojnom tankeru. On je jedan od rijetkih Britanaca koji su nakon rata ostali na otoku. "Velika većina vojnika se nikada nije vratila i na zna kako život ovdje funkcionira u mirnodopskim uvjetima", kaže on. Locke smatra da bi ponovni dolazak na Falklande mnogim veteranima donio unutarnji mir.
A rat je sa sobom donio i mnoge pozitivne promjene. Tako je izgrađen i aerodrom koji je omogućio bolje veze s kopnom. Oko otočja je uspostavljena i ekskluzivna trgovačka zona u radijusu od 200 milja što je omogućilo i veće prihode od ribarstva.
Sudbina i otok
Locke je nakon rata radio u luci u Stanleyu, najvećem gradu na Falklandima. "Boravak na otoku me učinio boljom osobom. Možda je sudbina htjela da ostanem ovdje", zaključuje ovaj veteran.

Britanska ministrica vanjskih poslova Liz Truss je prije nekoliko dana povukla paralele između tadašnjeg napada vojne hunte na Falklande i aktualne ruske agresije na Ukrajinu. Ona je naglasila kako Velika Britanija "neće oklijevati niti trenutka" u slučaju nove invazije.
Rat koji je okončan prije 40 godina je stajao života 255 britanskih vojnika, tri civila na otoku i 649 argentinskih vojnika.Usprkos smjeni vlasti u Argentini nakon izgubljenog rata ova južnoamerička zemlja nikada nije odbacila svoje pretenzije nad otočjem.

Falkland [fɔ:'klənd] (španjolski Islas Malvinas [i'slas malβi'nas]), otočje u jugozapadnome dijelu Atlantskog oceana, istočno od Magellanova prolaza, prekomorski posjed Velike Britanije; 12 173 km², 3398 st. (2016). Leži 483 km sjeveroistočno od krajnjega južnog rta Južne Amerike. Otočje obuhvaća dva velika otoka (East i West Falkland) i oko 770 otočića.
Građeno je od paleozojskih (pretežno devonskih) stijena. Otoci su brdoviti; najviši vrh Mount Usborne na otoku East Falkland (705 m). Opora klima pod utjecajem je hladne Falklandske struje; srednja godišnja temperatura iznosi 5,6 °C, a kreće se od 21,9 °C u siječnju do –5,0 °C u srpnju, piše Hrvatska enciklopedija Leksikografskog zavoda Miroslav Krleža.
Povijest
Falkland je otkrio vjerojatno John Davis 1592; prvi se 1690. na otoke iskrcao engleski kapetan John Strong i prozvao ih Falklandskim otocima (u čast vikontu Luciusu Caryju Falklandu). Francuski pomorci iz St.-Maloa zaposjeli su Istočne Falklande 1764. i otočje nazvali po svojem gradu, Isles Malouines, španjolski Islas Malvinas. God. 1765. na Zapadne Falklande došli su Britanci, a 1770. vlast su preuzeli Španjolci.
Britansko-španjolski vojni sukob oko Falklanda završio je 1774. prepuštanjem otočja Španjolskoj. Nakon osamostaljenja Argentine od Španjolske, ona je proglasila Falkland svojim područjem (1820), a Velika Britanija zauzela je Falkland 1833.
Od toga doba datiraju pretenzije Argentine, koja se smatra španjolskom nasljednicom, na otočje Falkland. Od 1892. otočje ima status britanske kolonije. Za I. svjetskog rata 8. XII. 1914. vodila se pomorska bitka na jugoistoku Falklandskih otoka između njemačke eskadre pod zapovjedništvom viceadmirala Maximiliana Speea i britanske eskadre pod zapovjedništvom admirala Frederica Dovetona Sturdeeja. Potopljeni su svi njemački brodovi, među kojima i oklopni krstaši Scharnhorst i Gneisenau.
Spasila se samo laka krstarica Dresden, koja se sklonila u jedan zaljev Ognjene Zemlje i zatim na otočje Juan Fernández u Tihom oceanu, gdje ju je potopila vlastita posada, pošto su je pronašli britanski brodovi. Pobjedom kod Falklandskih otoka britanska mornarica ponovno je zagospodarila morem.

"Sjećanja na rat su sveprisutna, s njima se suočavamo svakog dana i nemoguće ih je izbjeći", kaže Chris Locke iz udruge veterana Royal British Legion. "Još će mnogo vremena proći prije nego ovaj rat nestane iz glava vojnika i civila koji su boravili ovdje tijekom borbi", zaključuje ovaj veteran Falklandskog rata koji je okončan sredinom lipnja 1982. nakon nešto više od dva mjeseca. Rat je počeo 2. travnja 1982. kada je Argentina, tada pod vodstvom vojne hunte, zauzela otočje koje se na španjolskom naziva Malvinsko i koje Argentina kao nasljednica španjolske kolonijalne sile prisvaja već stoljećima, piše Deutsche Welle.

Falklandski rat, vođen je između Velike Britanije i Argentine od 2. travnja do 14. lipnja 1982. nakon neuspjelih pregovora o prijenosu suvereniteta nad Falklandskim otočjem. Argentinsku vojnu invaziju na Falklande (2. travnja) i na otoke Južna Georgia (3. travnja) osudilo je Vijeće sigurnosti UN-a. Posredovanjem SAD-a, Perua i UN-a neuspješno se pokušavalo sporazumno riješiti problem, a Europska je zajednica Argentini uvela ekonomske sankcije, piše Hrvatska enciklopedija Leksikografskog zavoda Miroslav Krleža.
Glavnina britanskih snaga s oko 6000 vojnika isplovila je 5. i 6. travnja iz Velike Britanije prema Falklandima. Na putu od oko 13 000 km logistički oslonac i baza bio im je otok Ascension.
Britanske snage porazile su argentinske na otocima Južna Georgia (25. do 26. travnja), a na Falklandima u borbama vođenima kod San Carlosa (21. svibnja), Goose Greena (28. svibnja) i kod Stanleyja (13. do 14. lipnja). U Falklandskom ratu poginulo je oko 250 Britanaca i oko 650 Argentinaca. Ratni ishod rezultirao je u Argentini padom predsjednika L. Galtierija, dok je u Velikoj Britaniji učvrstio položaj premijerke M. Thatcher. Međudržavni odnosi normalizirani su u polovicom 1990-ih.

Britanski simbol na Falklandu
Nakon argentinske okupacije Velika Britanija je s drugog kraja svijeta poslala flotu koja je nakon prevaljenog puta od 13.000 kilometara otočje vratila pod britansku zastavu. Locke smatra da je obilježavanje 40. godišnjice ovog povijesnog događaja kod lokalnog stanovništva samo pobudilo negativna sjećanja.

"Mnogi civili ovdje nakon rata pate od posttraumatskog stresnog poremećaja (PTSP). Rat je za mnoge bio prekretnica u životu", kaže Locke koji je služio kao mornar na jednom vojnom tankeru. On je jedan od rijetkih Britanaca koji su nakon rata ostali na otoku. "Velika većina vojnika se nikada nije vratila i na zna kako život ovdje funkcionira u mirnodopskim uvjetima", kaže on. Locke smatra da bi ponovni dolazak na Falklande mnogim veteranima donio unutarnji mir.
A rat je sa sobom donio i mnoge pozitivne promjene. Tako je izgrađen i aerodrom koji je omogućio bolje veze s kopnom. Oko otočja je uspostavljena i ekskluzivna trgovačka zona u radijusu od 200 milja što je omogućilo i veće prihode od ribarstva.
Sudbina i otok
Locke je nakon rata radio u luci u Stanleyu, najvećem gradu na Falklandima. "Boravak na otoku me učinio boljom osobom. Možda je sudbina htjela da ostanem ovdje", zaključuje ovaj veteran.

Britanska ministrica vanjskih poslova Liz Truss je prije nekoliko dana povukla paralele između tadašnjeg napada vojne hunte na Falklande i aktualne ruske agresije na Ukrajinu. Ona je naglasila kako Velika Britanija "neće oklijevati niti trenutka" u slučaju nove invazije.
Rat koji je okončan prije 40 godina je stajao života 255 britanskih vojnika, tri civila na otoku i 649 argentinskih vojnika.Usprkos smjeni vlasti u Argentini nakon izgubljenog rata ova južnoamerička zemlja nikada nije odbacila svoje pretenzije nad otočjem.

Falkland [fɔ:'klənd] (španjolski Islas Malvinas [i'slas malβi'nas]), otočje u jugozapadnome dijelu Atlantskog oceana, istočno od Magellanova prolaza, prekomorski posjed Velike Britanije; 12 173 km², 3398 st. (2016). Leži 483 km sjeveroistočno od krajnjega južnog rta Južne Amerike. Otočje obuhvaća dva velika otoka (East i West Falkland) i oko 770 otočića.
Građeno je od paleozojskih (pretežno devonskih) stijena. Otoci su brdoviti; najviši vrh Mount Usborne na otoku East Falkland (705 m). Opora klima pod utjecajem je hladne Falklandske struje; srednja godišnja temperatura iznosi 5,6 °C, a kreće se od 21,9 °C u siječnju do –5,0 °C u srpnju, piše Hrvatska enciklopedija Leksikografskog zavoda Miroslav Krleža.
Povijest
Falkland je otkrio vjerojatno John Davis 1592; prvi se 1690. na otoke iskrcao engleski kapetan John Strong i prozvao ih Falklandskim otocima (u čast vikontu Luciusu Caryju Falklandu). Francuski pomorci iz St.-Maloa zaposjeli su Istočne Falklande 1764. i otočje nazvali po svojem gradu, Isles Malouines, španjolski Islas Malvinas. God. 1765. na Zapadne Falklande došli su Britanci, a 1770. vlast su preuzeli Španjolci.
Britansko-španjolski vojni sukob oko Falklanda završio je 1774. prepuštanjem otočja Španjolskoj. Nakon osamostaljenja Argentine od Španjolske, ona je proglasila Falkland svojim područjem (1820), a Velika Britanija zauzela je Falkland 1833.
Od toga doba datiraju pretenzije Argentine, koja se smatra španjolskom nasljednicom, na otočje Falkland. Od 1892. otočje ima status britanske kolonije. Za I. svjetskog rata 8. XII. 1914. vodila se pomorska bitka na jugoistoku Falklandskih otoka između njemačke eskadre pod zapovjedništvom viceadmirala Maximiliana Speea i britanske eskadre pod zapovjedništvom admirala Frederica Dovetona Sturdeeja. Potopljeni su svi njemački brodovi, među kojima i oklopni krstaši Scharnhorst i Gneisenau.
Spasila se samo laka krstarica Dresden, koja se sklonila u jedan zaljev Ognjene Zemlje i zatim na otočje Juan Fernández u Tihom oceanu, gdje ju je potopila vlastita posada, pošto su je pronašli britanski brodovi. Pobjedom kod Falklandskih otoka britanska mornarica ponovno je zagospodarila morem.
