Više od 600 ljudi izgubilo je život od lipnja do danas u najsmrtonosnijim poplavama desetljeća u Nigeriji, koje je izazvala iznimna količina padalina i natjerala 1,3 milijuna ljudi da napuste svoje domove, prema novim podacima lokalnih vlasti.
Otkako je započela kišna sezona, mnogi dijelovi najmnogoljudnije afričke države su pogođeni snažnim poplavama koje su povećale strah od nedostatka hrane i od rasta inflacije.
"Nažalost, više od 603 života su izgubljena" - još 100 umrlih u tjedan dana i 2400 ozlijeđenih u poplavama, objavilo je nigerijsko Ministarstvo za humanitarne poslove u nedjelju putem Twittera.
Astronomski porast broja smrtnih slučajeva je zabilježen jer se mnoge lokalne jedinice nisu pripremile za tako obilnu kišu, poručili su iz ministarstva.
Vlasti su prošli tjedan objavile podatak o 500 mrtvih. Više od 82.000 kuća i 110.000 hektara obradivih površina je također potpuno uništeno, dodali su iz ministarstva.
Uobičajeno je da kišna sezona započinje u lipnju, ali poplave su postale posebno smrtonosne od kolovoza, podatak je Nacionalne agencije za upravljanje u slučajevima opasnosti.

Prošli tjedan je 76 ljudi poginulo u potonuću broda u jugiostočnoj saveznoj državi Anambri, kad je izlijevanje rijeke Niger izazvalo nesreću.
Obilne kiše se očekuju u Nigeriji i u nadolazećim tjednima pa postoji bojazan da će doći do novih šteta i opasnosti za ljude.
Ministar za humanitarne poslove Sadiya Umar Farouq je pozvao na evakuaciju ljude koji žive uz rijeke, pogotovo u onim krajevima u kojima postoji visoka razina rizika od poplava.
U 2012. su u Nigeriji bile smrtonosne poplave koje su odnijele 363 života, a više od dva milijuna ljudi je moralo napustiti svoje domove.
Subsaharska Afrika je posebno pogođena klimatskim promjenama, a u mnogim su zemljama posljedice ruske invazije u Ukrajini dodatno pogoršale ionako tešku gospodarsku situaciju. U Nigeriji, u kojoj živi oko 215 milijuna ljudi, uzgajivači riže su upozorili da poplave mogu utjecati na povećanje cijene, jer je uvoz riže zabranjen zbog poticanja lokalne proizvodnje.
Prema zajedničkom izvješću Svjetskog programa za hranu (WFP) i Organizacije za hranu i poljoprivredu pri Ujedinjenim narodima, koje je objavljeno u rujnu, Nigerija je već sada među šest zemalja kojima prijeti najveći rizik od katastrofalne gladi.

Više od 600 ljudi izgubilo je život od lipnja do danas u najsmrtonosnijim poplavama desetljeća u Nigeriji, koje je izazvala iznimna količina padalina i natjerala 1,3 milijuna ljudi da napuste svoje domove, prema novim podacima lokalnih vlasti.
Otkako je započela kišna sezona, mnogi dijelovi najmnogoljudnije afričke države su pogođeni snažnim poplavama koje su povećale strah od nedostatka hrane i od rasta inflacije.
"Nažalost, više od 603 života su izgubljena" - još 100 umrlih u tjedan dana i 2400 ozlijeđenih u poplavama, objavilo je nigerijsko Ministarstvo za humanitarne poslove u nedjelju putem Twittera.
Astronomski porast broja smrtnih slučajeva je zabilježen jer se mnoge lokalne jedinice nisu pripremile za tako obilnu kišu, poručili su iz ministarstva.
Vlasti su prošli tjedan objavile podatak o 500 mrtvih. Više od 82.000 kuća i 110.000 hektara obradivih površina je također potpuno uništeno, dodali su iz ministarstva.
Uobičajeno je da kišna sezona započinje u lipnju, ali poplave su postale posebno smrtonosne od kolovoza, podatak je Nacionalne agencije za upravljanje u slučajevima opasnosti.

Prošli tjedan je 76 ljudi poginulo u potonuću broda u jugiostočnoj saveznoj državi Anambri, kad je izlijevanje rijeke Niger izazvalo nesreću.
Obilne kiše se očekuju u Nigeriji i u nadolazećim tjednima pa postoji bojazan da će doći do novih šteta i opasnosti za ljude.
Ministar za humanitarne poslove Sadiya Umar Farouq je pozvao na evakuaciju ljude koji žive uz rijeke, pogotovo u onim krajevima u kojima postoji visoka razina rizika od poplava.
U 2012. su u Nigeriji bile smrtonosne poplave koje su odnijele 363 života, a više od dva milijuna ljudi je moralo napustiti svoje domove.
Subsaharska Afrika je posebno pogođena klimatskim promjenama, a u mnogim su zemljama posljedice ruske invazije u Ukrajini dodatno pogoršale ionako tešku gospodarsku situaciju. U Nigeriji, u kojoj živi oko 215 milijuna ljudi, uzgajivači riže su upozorili da poplave mogu utjecati na povećanje cijene, jer je uvoz riže zabranjen zbog poticanja lokalne proizvodnje.
Prema zajedničkom izvješću Svjetskog programa za hranu (WFP) i Organizacije za hranu i poljoprivredu pri Ujedinjenim narodima, koje je objavljeno u rujnu, Nigerija je već sada među šest zemalja kojima prijeti najveći rizik od katastrofalne gladi.
