Oscaru je 12 godina i upravo je prešao Rio Grande od Meksika do Teksasa u čamcu na napuhavanje kojim su upravljali trgovci ljudima. Oči su mu suzne, gladan je i uplašen nakon opasnog putovanja iz Gvatemale dugog mjesec dana.
Njegove prve riječi po dolasku u Sjedinjene Države bile su: "Vengo solo (Došao sam sam)."
"Došao sam ovdje jer nismo imali što za jesti", kaže mršavi dječak velikih smeđih očiju za AFP dok se noć spušta na dolinu Rio Grande.
Nagli porast broja migranata na američkoj granici s Meksikom je jedan od glavnih izazova s kojima se suočava demokratski predsjednik Joe Biden samo dva mjeseca nakon preuzimanja vlasti.
Djeci bez pratnje i tisućama obitelji dopušten je prelazak u vrijeme kad su mnogi objekti i vladini centri za zadržavanje prepuni.
Oscar se nada da će nakon traumatičnog putovanja uskoro ponovo biti s ujakom, soboslikarom koji 15 godina živi u Los Angelesu.
"Prije odlaska mama mi je rekla da ne plačem. Ali plakao sam ", kaže Oscar, jedinac samohrane majke koja je posao spremačice izgubila u pandemiji. Dječak ne može suzdržati suze.

Bolji život
Najgori dio putovanja, kaže Oscar, bilo je 12 sati provedenih u prikolici krcatoj migrantima u blizini granice s Meksikom.
"Bilo je vruće i svi su počeli padati u nesvijest", pripovijeda. I on se onesvijestio jer nije imao vode.
"Prijatelj me hrabrio da ne odustanem. Rekao je da ću tamo imati bolji život".
Oscar kaže da će u Sjedinjenim Državama "moći učiti i dovesti mamu".
Više od 70 imigranata bez dokumenata, gotovo svi iz Gvatemale ili Hondurasa, ali i dvoje iz Rumunjske, prešli su Rio Grande i stigli do teksaškog gradića Rome prošli tjedan, čemu je svjedočio AFP.
Više od njih 20 bili su adolescenti ili djeca bez pratnje, neka mlađa od sedam godina.
Po dolasku, migranti su stazom kroz trnovito grmlje pješačili više od kilometra kako bi se predali agentima američke granične patrole.

Put je prepun stvari iz života migranata, predmeta izgubljenih ili bačenih u stranu, poput plastičnih narukvica u boji koje krijumčari stavljaju na ljude kako bi ih identificirali pri prelasku rijeke, cipela, mokrih hlača, zvečki, honduraškog novca.
Vlasti će pokušati maloljetnike spojiti s članovima obitelji. Neke će obitelji čekati rasprave o azilu, dok će druge biti deportirane. Odrasli koji dolaze sami svi bivaju deportirani.
Scene poput ove ponavljaju se svakodnevno. U nekim noćima dolaze stotine migranata, tvrde mještani.
Biden je suočen s političkim pritiskom zbog svoje politike na više od 3000 kilometara dugoj granici s Meksikom. Republikanci ga optužuju da potiče dolaske jer ne želi zapečatiti granicu poput njegova prethodnika Donalda Trumpa.
Djecu nećemo slati natrag
Iako je 'razmontirao' mnoge dijelove Trumpove useljeničke politike, Biden tvrdi da granica nije otvorena i da većina migranata bez dokumenata brzo biva vraćena.

U veljači je gotovo 100 tisuća migranata ilegalno prešlo američku granicu, što su brojevi na razini iz sredine 2019. U međuvremenu je dolaske usporila pandemija.
Više od 9.000 maloljetnika bez pratnje prešlo je granicu u veljači i predalo se vlastima, što je 28 posto više nego u siječnju. U ožujku ih je stiglo više od 14.000. Vlasti očekuju da će ih ubuduće biti i više.
Deseci migranata koji su razgovarali s novinarima AFP-a nekoliko minuta nakon prelaska granice kažu da su im najvažniji razlozi dolaska u SAD bijeg od siromaštva, nasilja i nezaposlenosti koji su dodatno pogoršani pandemijom i nedavnim razornim uraganima u njihovim zemljama, najčešće Hondurasu, Salvadoru i Gvatemali.

Oscaru je 12 godina i upravo je prešao Rio Grande od Meksika do Teksasa u čamcu na napuhavanje kojim su upravljali trgovci ljudima. Oči su mu suzne, gladan je i uplašen nakon opasnog putovanja iz Gvatemale dugog mjesec dana.
Njegove prve riječi po dolasku u Sjedinjene Države bile su: "Vengo solo (Došao sam sam)."
"Došao sam ovdje jer nismo imali što za jesti", kaže mršavi dječak velikih smeđih očiju za AFP dok se noć spušta na dolinu Rio Grande.
Nagli porast broja migranata na američkoj granici s Meksikom je jedan od glavnih izazova s kojima se suočava demokratski predsjednik Joe Biden samo dva mjeseca nakon preuzimanja vlasti.
Djeci bez pratnje i tisućama obitelji dopušten je prelazak u vrijeme kad su mnogi objekti i vladini centri za zadržavanje prepuni.
Oscar se nada da će nakon traumatičnog putovanja uskoro ponovo biti s ujakom, soboslikarom koji 15 godina živi u Los Angelesu.
"Prije odlaska mama mi je rekla da ne plačem. Ali plakao sam ", kaže Oscar, jedinac samohrane majke koja je posao spremačice izgubila u pandemiji. Dječak ne može suzdržati suze.

Bolji život
Najgori dio putovanja, kaže Oscar, bilo je 12 sati provedenih u prikolici krcatoj migrantima u blizini granice s Meksikom.
"Bilo je vruće i svi su počeli padati u nesvijest", pripovijeda. I on se onesvijestio jer nije imao vode.
"Prijatelj me hrabrio da ne odustanem. Rekao je da ću tamo imati bolji život".
Oscar kaže da će u Sjedinjenim Državama "moći učiti i dovesti mamu".
Više od 70 imigranata bez dokumenata, gotovo svi iz Gvatemale ili Hondurasa, ali i dvoje iz Rumunjske, prešli su Rio Grande i stigli do teksaškog gradića Rome prošli tjedan, čemu je svjedočio AFP.
Više od njih 20 bili su adolescenti ili djeca bez pratnje, neka mlađa od sedam godina.
Po dolasku, migranti su stazom kroz trnovito grmlje pješačili više od kilometra kako bi se predali agentima američke granične patrole.

Put je prepun stvari iz života migranata, predmeta izgubljenih ili bačenih u stranu, poput plastičnih narukvica u boji koje krijumčari stavljaju na ljude kako bi ih identificirali pri prelasku rijeke, cipela, mokrih hlača, zvečki, honduraškog novca.
Vlasti će pokušati maloljetnike spojiti s članovima obitelji. Neke će obitelji čekati rasprave o azilu, dok će druge biti deportirane. Odrasli koji dolaze sami svi bivaju deportirani.
Scene poput ove ponavljaju se svakodnevno. U nekim noćima dolaze stotine migranata, tvrde mještani.
Biden je suočen s političkim pritiskom zbog svoje politike na više od 3000 kilometara dugoj granici s Meksikom. Republikanci ga optužuju da potiče dolaske jer ne želi zapečatiti granicu poput njegova prethodnika Donalda Trumpa.
Djecu nećemo slati natrag
Iako je 'razmontirao' mnoge dijelove Trumpove useljeničke politike, Biden tvrdi da granica nije otvorena i da većina migranata bez dokumenata brzo biva vraćena.
"Maloljetnike, djecu, nećemo slati natrag na taj užasan put", kazala je glasnogovornica Bijele kuće Jen Psaki.

U veljači je gotovo 100 tisuća migranata ilegalno prešlo američku granicu, što su brojevi na razini iz sredine 2019. U međuvremenu je dolaske usporila pandemija.
Više od 9.000 maloljetnika bez pratnje prešlo je granicu u veljači i predalo se vlastima, što je 28 posto više nego u siječnju. U ožujku ih je stiglo više od 14.000. Vlasti očekuju da će ih ubuduće biti i više.
Deseci migranata koji su razgovarali s novinarima AFP-a nekoliko minuta nakon prelaska granice kažu da su im najvažniji razlozi dolaska u SAD bijeg od siromaštva, nasilja i nezaposlenosti koji su dodatno pogoršani pandemijom i nedavnim razornim uraganima u njihovim zemljama, najčešće Hondurasu, Salvadoru i Gvatemali.
