Komarci koji prenose denga groznicu i druge viruse razvili su sve veću otpornost na insekticide u dijelovima Azije, a novi načini za njihovu kontrolu očajnički su potrebni, upozorava novo istraživanje.

Zdravstvene vlasti obično za njihovo suzbijanje koriste postupak zamagljivanja područja zaražena komarcima oblacima insekticida. Razvijanje njiiove otpornosti dugo je predstavljalo zabrinutost, ali razmjeri problema nisu bili dobro shvaćeni.

Japanski znanstvenik Shinji Kasai i njegov tim proučavali su komarce iz nekoliko zemalja u Aziji kao i iz Gane i otkrili da je serija mutacija učinila neke otpornima na popularne kemikalije na bazi piretroida, poput permetrina.

"U Kambodži, više od 90 posto komaraca Aedes aegypti ima kombinaciju mutacija koje rezultiraju izuzetno visokom razinom otpornosti", rekao je Kasai za AFP.

Otkrio je da neki sojevi komaraca imaju 1000 puta veću otpornost, u usporedbi sa 100 puta većom otpornošću koja je viđena ranije.

To znači da su razine insekticida koje bi inače ubile gotovo 100 posto komaraca u uzorku ubile samo oko sedam posto insekata.
Čak je i doza 10 puta jača ubila samo 30 posto superotpornih komaraca.

"Razina otpornosti koju smo otkrili kod komaraca u Kambodži i Vijetnamu potpuno je drukčija", rekao je Kasai, direktor Odjela za medicinsku entomologiju na japanskom Nacionalnom institutu za zarazne bolesti.

Denga može uzrokovati hemoragijsku groznicu i zarazi oko 100 do 400 milijuna ljudi godišnje, iako je više od 80 posto slučajeva blago ili asimptomatsko, prema Svjetskoj zdravstvenoj organizaciji.

Razvijeno je nekoliko cjepiva protiv denga groznice, a znanstvenici su također koristili bakteriju koja sterilizira komarce kako bi se uhvatili u koštac s virusom.

Međutim, nijedna opcija još nije blizu iskorjenjivanja denge, a komarci Aedes aegypti prenose druge bolesti, uključujući ziku i žutu groznicu.

Potrebne su nove formule

Otpornost je također otkrivena kod druge vrste komaraca, Aedes albopictus, iako na nižim razinama - vjerojatno zato što se hrani na otvorenom, često na životinjama, i možda je manje izložen insekticidima nego Aedes aegypti koji vole ljude.

Istraživanje je otkrilo da je nekoliko genetskih promjena povezano s otpornošću, uključujući dvije koje se javljaju kod dijela komaraca na meti piretroida i nekoliko drugih insekticida.

Razine otpornosti bile su različite, pa su tako komarci iz Gane, kao i iz dijelova Indonezije i Tajvana, još uvijek relativno osjetljivi na postojeće kemikalije, osobito kod većih doza.

Ali istraživanje pokazuje da "uobičajene strategije možda više nisu učinkovite", rekao je Cameron Webb, izvanredni profesor i istraživač komaraca na NSW Health Pathology i Sveučilištu u Sydneyu.

"Sve je više dokaza da možda nema mjesta za trenutne formulacije insekticida u kontroli populacije ključnih nametnika komaraca", rekao je Webb za AFP.

Rekao je da su potrebne nove kemikalije, ali vlasti i znanstvenici također moraju smisliti druge načine zaštite zajednica, uključujući cjepiva.

"Moramo razmisliti o rotirajućim insekticidima... koji imaju različita ciljana mjesta", dodao je Kasai, čije je istraživanje objavljeno prošlog mjeseca u časopisu Science Advances.

"Problem je što nemamo toliko različitih vrsta koje možemo koristiti."

Druge opcije uključuju više napora za uklanjanje mjesta razmnožavanja.

Kada i gdje su se mutacije za otpornost pojavile još uvijek je misterij, ali Kasai sada proširuje istraživanje drugdje u Aziji i ispituje novije uzorke iz Kambodže i Vijetnama da vidi je li se nešto promijenilo u odnosu na razdoblje istraživanja 2016.-2019.

"Zabrinuti smo da će se komarci s mutacijama koje smo pronašli u ovoj studiji proširiti na ostatak svijeta u bliskoj budućnosti", rekao je.

"Prije toga moramo smisliti rješenje."

Komarci koji prenose denga groznicu i druge viruse razvili su sve veću otpornost na insekticide u dijelovima Azije, a novi načini za njihovu kontrolu očajnički su potrebni, upozorava novo istraživanje.

Zdravstvene vlasti obično za njihovo suzbijanje koriste postupak zamagljivanja područja zaražena komarcima oblacima insekticida. Razvijanje njiiove otpornosti dugo je predstavljalo zabrinutost, ali razmjeri problema nisu bili dobro shvaćeni.

Japanski znanstvenik Shinji Kasai i njegov tim proučavali su komarce iz nekoliko zemalja u Aziji kao i iz Gane i otkrili da je serija mutacija učinila neke otpornima na popularne kemikalije na bazi piretroida, poput permetrina.

"U Kambodži, više od 90 posto komaraca Aedes aegypti ima kombinaciju mutacija koje rezultiraju izuzetno visokom razinom otpornosti", rekao je Kasai za AFP.

Otkrio je da neki sojevi komaraca imaju 1000 puta veću otpornost, u usporedbi sa 100 puta većom otpornošću koja je viđena ranije.

To znači da su razine insekticida koje bi inače ubile gotovo 100 posto komaraca u uzorku ubile samo oko sedam posto insekata.
Čak je i doza 10 puta jača ubila samo 30 posto superotpornih komaraca.

"Razina otpornosti koju smo otkrili kod komaraca u Kambodži i Vijetnamu potpuno je drukčija", rekao je Kasai, direktor Odjela za medicinsku entomologiju na japanskom Nacionalnom institutu za zarazne bolesti.

Denga može uzrokovati hemoragijsku groznicu i zarazi oko 100 do 400 milijuna ljudi godišnje, iako je više od 80 posto slučajeva blago ili asimptomatsko, prema Svjetskoj zdravstvenoj organizaciji.

Razvijeno je nekoliko cjepiva protiv denga groznice, a znanstvenici su također koristili bakteriju koja sterilizira komarce kako bi se uhvatili u koštac s virusom.

Međutim, nijedna opcija još nije blizu iskorjenjivanja denge, a komarci Aedes aegypti prenose druge bolesti, uključujući ziku i žutu groznicu.

Potrebne su nove formule

Otpornost je također otkrivena kod druge vrste komaraca, Aedes albopictus, iako na nižim razinama - vjerojatno zato što se hrani na otvorenom, često na životinjama, i možda je manje izložen insekticidima nego Aedes aegypti koji vole ljude.

Istraživanje je otkrilo da je nekoliko genetskih promjena povezano s otpornošću, uključujući dvije koje se javljaju kod dijela komaraca na meti piretroida i nekoliko drugih insekticida.

Razine otpornosti bile su različite, pa su tako komarci iz Gane, kao i iz dijelova Indonezije i Tajvana, još uvijek relativno osjetljivi na postojeće kemikalije, osobito kod većih doza.

Ali istraživanje pokazuje da "uobičajene strategije možda više nisu učinkovite", rekao je Cameron Webb, izvanredni profesor i istraživač komaraca na NSW Health Pathology i Sveučilištu u Sydneyu.

"Sve je više dokaza da možda nema mjesta za trenutne formulacije insekticida u kontroli populacije ključnih nametnika komaraca", rekao je Webb za AFP.

Rekao je da su potrebne nove kemikalije, ali vlasti i znanstvenici također moraju smisliti druge načine zaštite zajednica, uključujući cjepiva.

"Moramo razmisliti o rotirajućim insekticidima... koji imaju različita ciljana mjesta", dodao je Kasai, čije je istraživanje objavljeno prošlog mjeseca u časopisu Science Advances.

"Problem je što nemamo toliko različitih vrsta koje možemo koristiti."

Druge opcije uključuju više napora za uklanjanje mjesta razmnožavanja.

Kada i gdje su se mutacije za otpornost pojavile još uvijek je misterij, ali Kasai sada proširuje istraživanje drugdje u Aziji i ispituje novije uzorke iz Kambodže i Vijetnama da vidi je li se nešto promijenilo u odnosu na razdoblje istraživanja 2016.-2019.

"Zabrinuti smo da će se komarci s mutacijama koje smo pronašli u ovoj studiji proširiti na ostatak svijeta u bliskoj budućnosti", rekao je.

"Prije toga moramo smisliti rješenje."

Komarci koji prenose denga groznicu i druge viruse razvili su sve veću otpornost na insekticide u dijelovima Azije, a novi načini za njihovu kontrolu očajnički su potrebni, upozorava novo istraživanje.

Zdravstvene vlasti obično za njihovo suzbijanje koriste postupak zamagljivanja područja zaražena komarcima oblacima insekticida. Razvijanje njiiove otpornosti dugo je predstavljalo zabrinutost, ali razmjeri problema nisu bili dobro shvaćeni.

Japanski znanstvenik Shinji Kasai i njegov tim proučavali su komarce iz nekoliko zemalja u Aziji kao i iz Gane i otkrili da je serija mutacija učinila neke otpornima na popularne kemikalije na bazi piretroida, poput permetrina.
