Klimatske promjene stvaraju idealne uvjete za prijenos zaraznih bolesti, a svjetski zdravstveni sustavi nisu spremni za šok koji će izazvati, pokazuje novo istraživanje.

Nakon što je svijet u velikoj mjeri pao na covid testu, desetljeća napretka u kontroli dosadašnjih bolesti kao što su malarija, denga groznica i kolera su pod upitnikom osim ako se čelnici ne posvete ambicioznijim klimatskim planovima, objavio je znanstveni časopis Lancet u svom istraživanju koje prati 44 pokazatelja utjecaja na zdravlje koji su izravno povezani s klimatskim promjenama i, paralelno, pogoršanjem društvenih nejednakosti, donosi Time.

Oslanjajući se na istraživanja 38 akademskih institucija i agencija Ujedinjenih naroda, studija britanskog medicinskog časopisa pokazala je da se potencijal za izbijanje virusa najbrže povećava u razvijenim zemljama. Opasnost od infekcija malarijom raste u hladnijim područjima, dok obale sjeverne Europe i SAD-a postaju sve napučenije bakterijama koje uzrokuju gastroenteritis i sepsu.

U međuvremenu, gotovo 600 milijuna ljudi živi na manje od 5 metara iznad razine mora, što ih stavlja u opasnost od povećanih poplava i intenzivnih oluja. Mnogi bi mogli biti prisiljeni trajno napustiti svoje domove, navodi se u izvješću.

'Ovo su mračna upozorenja koja demonstriraju da, svakim danom kojim odgađamo naš odgovor na klimatske promjene, situacija postaje sve kritičnija', upozorila je Maria Romanello, direktorica istraživanja i glavna autorica izvješća. Manje od polovice od 91 zemlje praćene u studiji ima nacionalni plan za zdravlje i klimatske promjene, tako ostavljajući svoj medicinski sektor ranjivim na klimatske šokove, navodi se u izvješću. Od 45 zemalja sa ovom strategijom, samo je osam osiguralo sredstva za rješavanje problema detektiranih u njihovim procjenama.

Covid je prouzročio gotovo 5 milijuna smrtnih slučajeva diljem svijeta i gurnuo gospodarstva na rub ponora. Dok zemlje popuštaju svoje anti-korona mjere u nastojanju da ponovno pokrenu svoja gospodarstva, mnoge imaju problema sa kontrolom ponovnog pojavljivanja infekcija, a čitava situacije je dodatno pogoršana nejednakom distribucijom cjepiva između razvijenih zemalja i zemalja s nižim dohotkom.

Istraživanje je otkrilo slične nejednakosti u globalnom odgovoru na klimatske promjene, pri čemu nerazvijene zemlje, koje su najmanje odgovorne za povećanje emisija, zaostaju u naporima za dekarbonizaciju. 'Oporavak od covida može biti zeleni oporavak koji nas usmjerava na put poboljšanja zdravlja ljudi i smanjenja nejednakosti ili može biti oporavak uobičajenog poslovanja koji nas sve dovodi u opasnost.'

Klimatske promjene stvaraju idealne uvjete za prijenos zaraznih bolesti, a svjetski zdravstveni sustavi nisu spremni za šok koji će izazvati, pokazuje novo istraživanje.

Nakon što je svijet u velikoj mjeri pao na covid testu, desetljeća napretka u kontroli dosadašnjih bolesti kao što su malarija, denga groznica i kolera su pod upitnikom osim ako se čelnici ne posvete ambicioznijim klimatskim planovima, objavio je znanstveni časopis Lancet u svom istraživanju koje prati 44 pokazatelja utjecaja na zdravlje koji su izravno povezani s klimatskim promjenama i, paralelno, pogoršanjem društvenih nejednakosti, donosi Time.

Oslanjajući se na istraživanja 38 akademskih institucija i agencija Ujedinjenih naroda, studija britanskog medicinskog časopisa pokazala je da se potencijal za izbijanje virusa najbrže povećava u razvijenim zemljama. Opasnost od infekcija malarijom raste u hladnijim područjima, dok obale sjeverne Europe i SAD-a postaju sve napučenije bakterijama koje uzrokuju gastroenteritis i sepsu.

U međuvremenu, gotovo 600 milijuna ljudi živi na manje od 5 metara iznad razine mora, što ih stavlja u opasnost od povećanih poplava i intenzivnih oluja. Mnogi bi mogli biti prisiljeni trajno napustiti svoje domove, navodi se u izvješću.

'Ovo su mračna upozorenja koja demonstriraju da, svakim danom kojim odgađamo naš odgovor na klimatske promjene, situacija postaje sve kritičnija', upozorila je Maria Romanello, direktorica istraživanja i glavna autorica izvješća. 'Vrijeme je da shvatimo da nitko nije siguran od posljedica klimatskih promjena.'

Manje od polovice od 91 zemlje praćene u studiji ima nacionalni plan za zdravlje i klimatske promjene, tako ostavljajući svoj medicinski sektor ranjivim na klimatske šokove, navodi se u izvješću. Od 45 zemalja sa ovom strategijom, samo je osam osiguralo sredstva za rješavanje problema detektiranih u njihovim procjenama.

Covid je prouzročio gotovo 5 milijuna smrtnih slučajeva diljem svijeta i gurnuo gospodarstva na rub ponora. Dok zemlje popuštaju svoje anti-korona mjere u nastojanju da ponovno pokrenu svoja gospodarstva, mnoge imaju problema sa kontrolom ponovnog pojavljivanja infekcija, a čitava situacije je dodatno pogoršana nejednakom distribucijom cjepiva između razvijenih zemalja i zemalja s nižim dohotkom.

Istraživanje je otkrilo slične nejednakosti u globalnom odgovoru na klimatske promjene, pri čemu nerazvijene zemlje, koje su najmanje odgovorne za povećanje emisija, zaostaju u naporima za dekarbonizaciju. Ove će nacije najteže biti pogođene globalnim zatopljenjem jer suše prijete sigurnosti hrane i vode, što je problem koji je 2019. pogodio 2 milijarde ljudi, upozorava se u izvješću.

Najveća prepreka za poštivanje mjera o ublažavanju klimatskih promjena bilo je nedovoljno financiranje, prema 69% ispitanih zemalja. No, s obzirom na to da su zemlje ubrizgale bilijune dolara za ponovno pokretanje svojih gospodarstava usred pandemije, izvješće poziva vlade da "ostave priču iza sebe i stvarno poduzmu nešto" na konferenciji UN-a u Glasgowu koja počinje krajem mjeseca, na kojoj će svjetski čelnici, rukovoditelji i klimatski aktivisti izraditi planove za smanjenje emisija ugljika.

Istraživanje je također upozorilo na gospodarski oporavak industrije pogonjenom fosilnim gorivima koja financira proizvodnju nafte, plina i ugljena, ali daje ograničenu podršku razvoju čiste energije. Umjesto toga, zemlje bi trebale stvarati zelena radna mjesta i čuvati zdravlje, stoji u izvješću.

'Klimatske promjene su ovdje i već vidimo kako one štete ljudskom zdravlju diljem svijeta', rekao je Anthony Costello, izvršni direktor Lanceta. 'Oporavak od covida može biti zeleni oporavak koji nas usmjerava na put poboljšanja zdravlja ljudi i smanjenja nejednakosti ili može biti oporavak uobičajenog poslovanja koji nas sve dovodi u opasnost.'

Klimatske promjene stvaraju idealne uvjete za prijenos zaraznih bolesti, a svjetski zdravstveni sustavi nisu spremni za šok koji će izazvati, pokazuje novo istraživanje.
