Južnoafrički predsjednik Cyril Ramaphosa okrivio je NATO za rat u Ukrajini i rekao da će se oduprijeti pozivima na osudu Rusije, u komentarima koji dovode u sumnju hoće li ga Ukrajina ili Zapad prihvatiti kao posrednika. Ramaphosa, koji je u četvrtak govorio u parlamentu, rekao je: “Rat se mogao izbjeći da je NATO tijekom godina poslušao upozorenja svojih čelnika i dužnosnika da će njegovo širenje na istok dovesti do veće, a ne manje, nestabilnosti u regiji." No, dodao je da Južna Afrika "ne može dopustiti upotrebu sile i kršenje međunarodnog prava", što se očito odnosi na rusku invaziju Ukrajine.

Predsjednik Vladimir Putin okarakterizirao je djelovanje Rusije kao "specijalnu operaciju" za razoružavanje i "denacizaciju" Ukrajine i suprotstavljanje onome što on naziva agresijom NATO-a. Kijev i njegovi zapadni saveznici vjeruju da je Rusija pokrenula ničim izazvan rat kako bi pokorila susjeda kojeg Putin naziva umjetnom državom. Ramaphosa je također otkrio da ga je Putin osobno uvjeravao da pregovori napreduju. Južnoafrički čelnik rekao je da još nije razgovarao s ukrajinskim predsjednikom Volodimirom Zelenskim, ali da želi.

U petak je Ramaphosa rekao da je od Južne Afrike zatraženo da posreduje u sukobu Rusije i Ukrajine. Nije rekao tko ga je zamolio da intervenira. "Postoje oni koji inzistiraju da bismo trebali zauzeti vrlo neprijateljski stav prema Rusiji", dodao je Ramaphosa. "Pristup koji ćemo zauzeti umjesto toga je ... inzistiranje na tome da treba postojati dijalog."

Stranka Afričkog nacionalnog kongresa Ramaphose, koja upravlja Južnom Afrikom otkako je 1994. prestala vladavina bijelaca, imala je jake veze s bivšim Sovjetskim Savezom, koji je obučavao i podržavao aktiviste protiv aparthejda tijekom Hladnog rata. Iz tog razloga, Južna Afrika je ponekad pod lupom sumnje među ruskim suparnicima na Zapadu, iako još uvijek uživa visoku razinu diplomatskog utjecaja u odnosu na svoju gospodarsku veličinu od svoje mirne tranzicije u demokraciju.

“Nikada se ne želimo pretvarati da imamo veliki utjecaj koji imaju druge zemlje, ali nam se obraća. Osuditi jednu stranu isključuje tu ulogu koju bismo mogli odigrati”, dodao je predsjednik, prenosi Al Jazeera.

Južnoafrički predsjednik Cyril Ramaphosa okrivio je NATO za rat u Ukrajini i rekao da će se oduprijeti pozivima na osudu Rusije, u komentarima koji dovode u sumnju hoće li ga Ukrajina ili Zapad prihvatiti kao posrednika. Ramaphosa, koji je u četvrtak govorio u parlamentu, rekao je: “Rat se mogao izbjeći da je NATO tijekom godina poslušao upozorenja svojih čelnika i dužnosnika da će njegovo širenje na istok dovesti do veće, a ne manje, nestabilnosti u regiji." No, dodao je da Južna Afrika "ne može dopustiti upotrebu sile i kršenje međunarodnog prava", što se očito odnosi na rusku invaziju Ukrajine.

Predsjednik Vladimir Putin okarakterizirao je djelovanje Rusije kao "specijalnu operaciju" za razoružavanje i "denacizaciju" Ukrajine i suprotstavljanje onome što on naziva agresijom NATO-a. Kijev i njegovi zapadni saveznici vjeruju da je Rusija pokrenula ničim izazvan rat kako bi pokorila susjeda kojeg Putin naziva umjetnom državom. Ramaphosa je također otkrio da ga je Putin osobno uvjeravao da pregovori napreduju. Južnoafrički čelnik rekao je da još nije razgovarao s ukrajinskim predsjednikom Volodimirom Zelenskim, ali da želi.

U petak je Ramaphosa rekao da je od Južne Afrike zatraženo da posreduje u sukobu Rusije i Ukrajine. Nije rekao tko ga je zamolio da intervenira. "Postoje oni koji inzistiraju da bismo trebali zauzeti vrlo neprijateljski stav prema Rusiji", dodao je Ramaphosa. "Pristup koji ćemo zauzeti umjesto toga je ... inzistiranje na tome da treba postojati dijalog."

Stranka Afričkog nacionalnog kongresa Ramaphose, koja upravlja Južnom Afrikom otkako je 1994. prestala vladavina bijelaca, imala je jake veze s bivšim Sovjetskim Savezom, koji je obučavao i podržavao aktiviste protiv aparthejda tijekom Hladnog rata. Iz tog razloga, Južna Afrika je ponekad pod lupom sumnje među ruskim suparnicima na Zapadu, iako još uvijek uživa visoku razinu diplomatskog utjecaja u odnosu na svoju gospodarsku veličinu od svoje mirne tranzicije u demokraciju.

“Nikada se ne želimo pretvarati da imamo veliki utjecaj koji imaju druge zemlje, ali nam se obraća. Osuditi jednu stranu isključuje tu ulogu koju bismo mogli odigrati”, dodao je predsjednik, prenosi Al Jazeera.

Južnoafrički predsjednik Cyril Ramaphosa okrivio je NATO za rat u Ukrajini i rekao da će se oduprijeti pozivima na osudu Rusije, u komentarima koji dovode u sumnju hoće li ga Ukrajina ili Zapad prihvatiti kao posrednika. Ramaphosa, koji je u četvrtak govorio u parlamentu, rekao je: “Rat se mogao izbjeći da je NATO tijekom godina poslušao upozorenja svojih čelnika i dužnosnika da će njegovo širenje na istok dovesti do veće, a ne manje, nestabilnosti u regiji." No, dodao je da Južna Afrika "ne može dopustiti upotrebu sile i kršenje međunarodnog prava", što se očito odnosi na rusku invaziju Ukrajine.
