Bivši američki potpredsjednik Mike Pence, koji je odano služio Donaldu Trumpu, ali se nakon napada na Kapitol 2021. okrenuo protiv njega, u srijedu je formalno objavio kandidatutu za predsjedničku nominaciju Republikanske stranke. 

"Uvijek ću biti ponosan na napredak koji smo zajedno postigli za jaču i prosperitetniju Ameriku", rekao je Pence u video poruci, kritizirajući sadašnjeg demokratskog predsjednika Joea Bidena, ali ne imenujući nijednom izravno Trumpa.

Jako je rijetko da se bivši potpredsjednik kandidira protiv predsjednika za kojeg je radio. To se u američkoj povijesti dogodilo svega nekoliko puta.

Pence pred sobom ima težak zadatak jer ima potporu samo 5 posto republikanskih birača, zaostajući za Trumpom za 44 postotna boda, po ispitivanju Ipsosa za Reuters u svibnju.

Pence, koji je u srijedu napunio 64 godine, odmjerit će snage s Trumpom i još najmanje desetero kandidata za predsjedničku nominaciju Republikanske stranke koja je u biti bitka između dvojice favorita, Trumpa i guvernera Floride Rona DeSantisa.

Pence će kampanju službeno početi kasnije tijekom dana nedaleko od Des Moinesa, glavnog grada Iowe, nakon čega će se navečer susreti s biračima u gradskoj vijećnici, što će prenositi CNN. Penceova kampanja prijavila je njegovu kandidaturu Saveznom izbornom povjerenstvu u ponedjeljak.

Pence, konzervativni kršćanin, fokusirat će dobar dio kampanje na Iowu, prvu državu koja će glasati za nominaciju iduće godine. Iowa ima značajan broj evangeličkih birača među republikancima. Pence se nada da će mu dobar rezultat u toj državi dati zamah u utrci.

Pence je često branio Trumpa za vrijeme njegova burnog četverogodišnjeg boravka u Bijeloj kući. No izazvao je njegov bijes kada kao ceremonijalni predsjednik Senata nije želio zaustaviti potvrdu Bidenove pobjede 2020.

Pence je rekao da nema ustavnu ovlast miješati se u izborne rezultate. Trumpovi pristaše napali su Kapitol tijekom procesa potvrde izbornih rezultata 6. siječnja 2021. natjeravši Pencea i zastupnike na bijeg.

"Nisam imao pravo poništiti izbore, i njegove nesmotrene riječi ugrozile su moju obitelj i sve ostale na Kapitolu tog dana, i znam da će povijest smatrati Donalda Trumpa odgovornim", rekao je Pence u ožujku.

U tvitovima tijekom potvrde, Trump je optužio Pencea za kukavičluk, a neki prosvjednici pozivali su da ga se objesi.

"Jako volim Mikea Penca. On je jako dobar čovjek. Pogriješio je", rekao je Trump prošli mjesec za CNN.

Predstavnici Trumpove kampanje nisu još komentirali Penceovu kandidaturu.

Pence, koji je bio guverner Indiane i kongresnik, i dalje podržava mnoge Trumpove politike premda se prikazuje kao stabilna i konsenzusima sklona alternativa.

Uspjeh njegove kampanje ovisit će o tome hoće li privući dovoljno pristaša Trumpovih politika koji ne podržavaju retoriku i ponašanjeg bivšeg predsjednika.

Pence je u video poruci naveo inflaciju, imigraciju i rizik od recesije kao glavna pitanja kojima će se baviti. U pogledu čelnika Rusije i Kine rekao je da "neprijatelji slobode marširaju svijetom".

"Još gore, vječne američke vrijednosti napadnute su kao nikad prije", dodao je, istaknuvši kao primjer kulturni rat oko transrodnih Amerikanaca i transvestita.

Nije spomenuo pitanje pobačaja, ali je istaknuo napore da se "Americi da novi početak za život".

Bivši američki potpredsjednik Mike Pence, koji je odano služio Donaldu Trumpu, ali se nakon napada na Kapitol 2021. okrenuo protiv njega, u srijedu je formalno objavio kandidatutu za predsjedničku nominaciju Republikanske stranke. 

"Uvijek ću biti ponosan na napredak koji smo zajedno postigli za jaču i prosperitetniju Ameriku", rekao je Pence u video poruci, kritizirajući sadašnjeg demokratskog predsjednika Joea Bidena, ali ne imenujući nijednom izravno Trumpa.

Jako je rijetko da se bivši potpredsjednik kandidira protiv predsjednika za kojeg je radio. To se u američkoj povijesti dogodilo svega nekoliko puta.

Pence pred sobom ima težak zadatak jer ima potporu samo 5 posto republikanskih birača, zaostajući za Trumpom za 44 postotna boda, po ispitivanju Ipsosa za Reuters u svibnju.

Pence, koji je u srijedu napunio 64 godine, odmjerit će snage s Trumpom i još najmanje desetero kandidata za predsjedničku nominaciju Republikanske stranke koja je u biti bitka između dvojice favorita, Trumpa i guvernera Floride Rona DeSantisa.

Pence će kampanju službeno početi kasnije tijekom dana nedaleko od Des Moinesa, glavnog grada Iowe, nakon čega će se navečer susreti s biračima u gradskoj vijećnici, što će prenositi CNN. Penceova kampanja prijavila je njegovu kandidaturu Saveznom izbornom povjerenstvu u ponedjeljak.

Pence, konzervativni kršćanin, fokusirat će dobar dio kampanje na Iowu, prvu državu koja će glasati za nominaciju iduće godine. Iowa ima značajan broj evangeličkih birača među republikancima. Pence se nada da će mu dobar rezultat u toj državi dati zamah u utrci.

Pence je često branio Trumpa za vrijeme njegova burnog četverogodišnjeg boravka u Bijeloj kući. No izazvao je njegov bijes kada kao ceremonijalni predsjednik Senata nije želio zaustaviti potvrdu Bidenove pobjede 2020.

Pence je rekao da nema ustavnu ovlast miješati se u izborne rezultate. Trumpovi pristaše napali su Kapitol tijekom procesa potvrde izbornih rezultata 6. siječnja 2021. natjeravši Pencea i zastupnike na bijeg.

"Nisam imao pravo poništiti izbore, i njegove nesmotrene riječi ugrozile su moju obitelj i sve ostale na Kapitolu tog dana, i znam da će povijest smatrati Donalda Trumpa odgovornim", rekao je Pence u ožujku.

U tvitovima tijekom potvrde, Trump je optužio Pencea za kukavičluk, a neki prosvjednici pozivali su da ga se objesi.

"Jako volim Mikea Penca. On je jako dobar čovjek. Pogriješio je", rekao je Trump prošli mjesec za CNN.

Predstavnici Trumpove kampanje nisu još komentirali Penceovu kandidaturu.

Pence, koji je bio guverner Indiane i kongresnik, i dalje podržava mnoge Trumpove politike premda se prikazuje kao stabilna i konsenzusima sklona alternativa.

Uspjeh njegove kampanje ovisit će o tome hoće li privući dovoljno pristaša Trumpovih politika koji ne podržavaju retoriku i ponašanjeg bivšeg predsjednika.

Pence je u video poruci naveo inflaciju, imigraciju i rizik od recesije kao glavna pitanja kojima će se baviti. U pogledu čelnika Rusije i Kine rekao je da "neprijatelji slobode marširaju svijetom".

"Još gore, vječne američke vrijednosti napadnute su kao nikad prije", dodao je, istaknuvši kao primjer kulturni rat oko transrodnih Amerikanaca i transvestita.

Nije spomenuo pitanje pobačaja, ali je istaknuo napore da se "Americi da novi početak za život".

Bivši američki potpredsjednik Mike Pence, koji je odano služio Donaldu Trumpu, ali se nakon napada na Kapitol 2021. okrenuo protiv njega, u srijedu je formalno objavio kandidatutu za predsjedničku nominaciju Republikanske stranke. 

"Uvijek ću biti ponosan na napredak koji smo zajedno postigli za jaču i prosperitetniju Ameriku", rekao je Pence u video poruci, kritizirajući sadašnjeg demokratskog predsjednika Joea Bidena, ali ne imenujući nijednom izravno Trumpa.

Jako je rijetko da se bivši potpredsjednik kandidira protiv predsjednika za kojeg je radio. To se u američkoj povijesti dogodilo svega nekoliko puta.

Pence pred sobom ima težak zadatak jer ima potporu samo 5 posto republikanskih birača, zaostajući za Trumpom za 44 postotna boda, po ispitivanju Ipsosa za Reuters u svibnju.
