Britanski znanstvenici pokreću danas istraživanje u kojem će ljude koji su preboljeli COVID-19, namjerno ponovo izložiti koronavirusu kako bi proučavali njihov imunološki odgovor i vidjeli mogu li se novo razboljeti od korone.
Velika Britanija je prva zemljama na svijetu koja je dala zeleno svjetlo ovakvom istraživanju na ljudima gdje je dobrovoljce nanovo izložila bolesti kako bi došla do novih saznanja i unaprijedila dosadašnja istraživanja.
Nova studija koja je pokrenuta u ponedjeljak, razlikuje se od one najavljene u veljači jer će se sada pokušati virusom reinficirati osobe koje su ranije imale COVID, umjesto da ih prvi put zaraze.
"Informacije iz ovog rada omogućit će nam da napravimo bolja cjepiva i medicinske tretmane, kao i da shvatimo hoće li ljudi biti zaštićeni nakon COVID-a i koliko dugo", izjavila je prof. Helen McShane imunologinja sa Sveučilišta u Oxfordu i glavna autorica studije za Reuters.
Pojasnila je kako bi studija trebala otkriti kakav imunološki odgovor štiti od nove infekcije.

Znanstvenici su već prije desetljećima koristili ispitivanja na ljudima kako bi saznali više o infekcijama poput malarije, gripe i kolere.
Prva faza ispitivanja nastojat će utvrditi najnižu, minimalnu dozu virusa potrebnu kako bi se on počeo replicirati kod oko 50 posto sudionika, a koja bi trebala izazvati blage ili nikakve simptome.
U drugoj fazi, koja započinje na ljeto, zarazit će se ostatak dobrovoljaca standardnom dozom virusa.
U prvoj fazi 64 sudionika u dobi od 18 do 30 godina, koji su preboljeli COVID prije najmanje tri mjeseca dobit će izvornu verziju SARS-CoV-2. Nakon toga će biti u karanteni 17 dana, tijekom kojih će se pratiti njihovo stanje, a onima koji razviju simptome pružit će se tretman Regeneron monoklonskim antitijela.
Volonteri su pregledani zbog mogućih zdravstvenih rizika prije nego što im je dopušteno sudjelovanje u istraživanju, a njihovo stanje pomno će se pratiti u London's Royal Free Hospitalu.
"Apsolutni prioritet je, naravno, sigurnost dobrovoljaca", ranije je rekao Peter Openshaw, profesor eksperimentalne medicine na Imperial Collegeu u Londonu, koji zajedno s vladinom radnom skupinom za cjepiva i kliničkom tvrtkom hVIVO vodi projekt.
Sudionici istraživanja moći će ići kući nakon 14 dana samo ako opsežna testiranja pokažu da nisu zaraženi i zarazni za druge.

Britanski znanstvenici pokreću danas istraživanje u kojem će ljude koji su preboljeli COVID-19, namjerno ponovo izložiti koronavirusu kako bi proučavali njihov imunološki odgovor i vidjeli mogu li se novo razboljeti od korone.
Velika Britanija je prva zemljama na svijetu koja je dala zeleno svjetlo ovakvom istraživanju na ljudima gdje je dobrovoljce nanovo izložila bolesti kako bi došla do novih saznanja i unaprijedila dosadašnja istraživanja.
Nova studija koja je pokrenuta u ponedjeljak, razlikuje se od one najavljene u veljači jer će se sada pokušati virusom reinficirati osobe koje su ranije imale COVID, umjesto da ih prvi put zaraze.
"Informacije iz ovog rada omogućit će nam da napravimo bolja cjepiva i medicinske tretmane, kao i da shvatimo hoće li ljudi biti zaštićeni nakon COVID-a i koliko dugo", izjavila je prof. Helen McShane imunologinja sa Sveučilišta u Oxfordu i glavna autorica studije za Reuters.
Pojasnila je kako bi studija trebala otkriti kakav imunološki odgovor štiti od nove infekcije.

Znanstvenici su već prije desetljećima koristili ispitivanja na ljudima kako bi saznali više o infekcijama poput malarije, gripe i kolere.
Prva faza ispitivanja nastojat će utvrditi najnižu, minimalnu dozu virusa potrebnu kako bi se on počeo replicirati kod oko 50 posto sudionika, a koja bi trebala izazvati blage ili nikakve simptome.
U drugoj fazi, koja započinje na ljeto, zarazit će se ostatak dobrovoljaca standardnom dozom virusa.
U prvoj fazi 64 sudionika u dobi od 18 do 30 godina, koji su preboljeli COVID prije najmanje tri mjeseca dobit će izvornu verziju SARS-CoV-2. Nakon toga će biti u karanteni 17 dana, tijekom kojih će se pratiti njihovo stanje, a onima koji razviju simptome pružit će se tretman Regeneron monoklonskim antitijela.
Volonteri su pregledani zbog mogućih zdravstvenih rizika prije nego što im je dopušteno sudjelovanje u istraživanju, a njihovo stanje pomno će se pratiti u London's Royal Free Hospitalu.
"Apsolutni prioritet je, naravno, sigurnost dobrovoljaca", ranije je rekao Peter Openshaw, profesor eksperimentalne medicine na Imperial Collegeu u Londonu, koji zajedno s vladinom radnom skupinom za cjepiva i kliničkom tvrtkom hVIVO vodi projekt.
Sudionici istraživanja moći će ići kući nakon 14 dana samo ako opsežna testiranja pokažu da nisu zaraženi i zarazni za druge.
