Kada je američki predsjednik Joe Biden nedavno potpisao odluku o bespovratnoj pomoći Tajvanu od 80 milijuna dolara za kupnju američke vojne opreme, Kina je poručila da se "žali i protivi".

Tajvan je već naručio američkog oružja u vrijednosti od više od 14 milijardi dolara, piše BBC, pa se 80 milijuna ne čini kao veliki iznos. No ovo je prvi put da SAD daje vlastiti novac za oružje zemlji koju službeno ne priznaje.

SAD je 1979. diplomatsko priznanje Tajvana prebacio na Kinu, no nastavili su prodavati oružje otoku kojeg Kina smatra svojim. Cilj SAD-a je bio poslati dovoljno oružja da se Tajvan može obraniti od mogućeg kineskog napada, ali ne toliko da bi to destabiliziralo odnose između Washingtona i Pekinga. Desetljećima je SAD vozio na dva kolosijeka, surađujući s Kinom, i ostajući najvjerniji saveznik Tajvana, piše Jutarnji list.

No u posljednjem desetljeću vojna ravnoteža dramatično se okrenula u korist Kine, pa SAD upravo intenzivno radi na naoružavanju Tajvana. "SAD naglašava očajničku potrebu jačanja naših vojnih kapaciteta. Pekingu šalje jasnu poruku da su s nama", kaže Wang Ting-yu, zastupnik vladajuće stranke Tajvana, blizak predsjedniku Tsai Ing-wenu. Zadnjih 80 milijuna dolara vrh je sante leda, u srpnju je predsjednik Biden odobrio prodaju oružja i opreme Tajvanu u vrijednosti od 500 milijuna dolara. Wang kaže da se Tajvan priprema poslati dva bataljuna kopnenih trupa u SAD na obuku, prvi put od 1970-ih. Washington šalje Tajvanu oružje po istoj proceduri kao Ukrajini, bitno brže nego po regularnoj proceduri.

Na što će Tajvan potrošiti odobreni novac? BBC prenosi da bi to mogli biti protunetkovski projektili Javelin i protuzračni projektili Stinger. Inozemni promatrači upozoravaju: otok je žalosno nepripremljen za kineski napad.

Tajvanska vojska ima stotine zastarjelih borbenih tenkova, ali premalo modernih, lakih raketnih sustava. Zapovjedna struktura, vojna taktika i doktrina nisu modernizirani pola stoljeća.

U Washingtonu smatraju da Tajvan više nema vremena, i odlučili su pomoći im u modernizaciji. Tajvanske postrojbe idu u SAD na obuku, a američki instruktori dolaze u Taipei.

Desetljećima su politički i vojni čelnici otoka bili uljuljkani u uvjerenju da je invazija za Kinu previše teška i riskantna. Ali sada Kina ima najveću mornaricu na svijetu i daleko nadmoćnije zračne snage. Prema jednoj simulaciji, u sukobu s Kinom tajvanska mornarica i zrakoplovstvo bili bi zbrisani u prvih 96 sati.

Pod intenzivnim pritiskom Washingtona, Taipei prelazi na strategiju "utvrde Tajvan" koja bi otok učinila iznimno teškim za osvajanje. Sada se u Washingtonu vodi žestoka rasprava o tome koliko daleko bi trebali ići u pružanju potpore Tajvanu, navodi BBC. Amerikanci bi htjeli Kini poslati odvraćajuću poruku, a ne isprovocirati ih, prenosi Jutarnji list.

Ali William Chung, znanstveni suradnik na Institutu za istraživanje nacionalne obrane i sigurnosti u Taipeiju, kaže da međunarodna zajednica mora odlučiti je li Tajvan važan. "Ako G7 ili NATO zaključe da je Tajvan važan za njihove vlastite interese, moramo internacionalizirati tajvansko pitanje - jer to je ono što će natjerati Kinu da dvaput razmisli."

Kada je američki predsjednik Joe Biden nedavno potpisao odluku o bespovratnoj pomoći Tajvanu od 80 milijuna dolara za kupnju američke vojne opreme, Kina je poručila da se "žali i protivi".

Tajvan je već naručio američkog oružja u vrijednosti od više od 14 milijardi dolara, piše BBC, pa se 80 milijuna ne čini kao veliki iznos. No ovo je prvi put da SAD daje vlastiti novac za oružje zemlji koju službeno ne priznaje.

SAD je 1979. diplomatsko priznanje Tajvana prebacio na Kinu, no nastavili su prodavati oružje otoku kojeg Kina smatra svojim. Cilj SAD-a je bio poslati dovoljno oružja da se Tajvan može obraniti od mogućeg kineskog napada, ali ne toliko da bi to destabiliziralo odnose između Washingtona i Pekinga. Desetljećima je SAD vozio na dva kolosijeka, surađujući s Kinom, i ostajući najvjerniji saveznik Tajvana, piše Jutarnji list.

No u posljednjem desetljeću vojna ravnoteža dramatično se okrenula u korist Kine, pa SAD upravo intenzivno radi na naoružavanju Tajvana. "SAD naglašava očajničku potrebu jačanja naših vojnih kapaciteta. Pekingu šalje jasnu poruku da su s nama", kaže Wang Ting-yu, zastupnik vladajuće stranke Tajvana, blizak predsjedniku Tsai Ing-wenu. Zadnjih 80 milijuna dolara vrh je sante leda, u srpnju je predsjednik Biden odobrio prodaju oružja i opreme Tajvanu u vrijednosti od 500 milijuna dolara. Wang kaže da se Tajvan priprema poslati dva bataljuna kopnenih trupa u SAD na obuku, prvi put od 1970-ih. Washington šalje Tajvanu oružje po istoj proceduri kao Ukrajini, bitno brže nego po regularnoj proceduri.

Na što će Tajvan potrošiti odobreni novac? BBC prenosi da bi to mogli biti protunetkovski projektili Javelin i protuzračni projektili Stinger. Inozemni promatrači upozoravaju: otok je žalosno nepripremljen za kineski napad.

Tajvanska vojska ima stotine zastarjelih borbenih tenkova, ali premalo modernih, lakih raketnih sustava. Zapovjedna struktura, vojna taktika i doktrina nisu modernizirani pola stoljeća.

U Washingtonu smatraju da Tajvan više nema vremena, i odlučili su pomoći im u modernizaciji. Tajvanske postrojbe idu u SAD na obuku, a američki instruktori dolaze u Taipei.

Desetljećima su politički i vojni čelnici otoka bili uljuljkani u uvjerenju da je invazija za Kinu previše teška i riskantna. Ali sada Kina ima najveću mornaricu na svijetu i daleko nadmoćnije zračne snage. Prema jednoj simulaciji, u sukobu s Kinom tajvanska mornarica i zrakoplovstvo bili bi zbrisani u prvih 96 sati.

Pod intenzivnim pritiskom Washingtona, Taipei prelazi na strategiju "utvrde Tajvan" koja bi otok učinila iznimno teškim za osvajanje. Sada se u Washingtonu vodi žestoka rasprava o tome koliko daleko bi trebali ići u pružanju potpore Tajvanu, navodi BBC. Amerikanci bi htjeli Kini poslati odvraćajuću poruku, a ne isprovocirati ih, prenosi Jutarnji list.

Ali William Chung, znanstveni suradnik na Institutu za istraživanje nacionalne obrane i sigurnosti u Taipeiju, kaže da međunarodna zajednica mora odlučiti je li Tajvan važan. "Ako G7 ili NATO zaključe da je Tajvan važan za njihove vlastite interese, moramo internacionalizirati tajvansko pitanje - jer to je ono što će natjerati Kinu da dvaput razmisli."
