Globalizacija može funkcionirati samo ako većina sudionika vjeruje da unapređuje njihove interese. Ako ostali vjeruju da Zapad nepravedno koristi sustav za vlastitu korist, međunarodni poredak temeljen na pravilima raspada se i pojavit će se alternative.

Danas inflatorni pritisci i strahovi od recesije vrebaju veći dio svijeta. Dok bogati Zapad može priuštiti troškove sankcija, većina ostalih to ne može. Europa se sada natječe s Bangladešom, Šri Lankom, Pakistanom i Tajlandom za isporuke energije. U sjevernoj Africi i na Bliskom istoku nestašice energije i hrane povećale su izglede za političke nemire slične arapskom proljeću.

Ove zabrinutosti stvaraju značajne antizapadnjačke osjećaje u velikom dijelu globalnog juga. Iako nuklearno naoružana Rusija ne pokazuje spremnost da prekine rat, njezini čelnici ne mogu priuštiti gubitak; Zapad ubrzano gubi ostatak i tako potkopava sam međunarodni poredak temeljen na pravilima koji je nastojao stvoriti. Naš poznati sustav globalnih političkih i ekonomskih saveza se mijenja, a ništa nije učinilo ovu promjenu jasnijom od različitih reakcija na rusku invaziju na Ukrajinu. Savezi koji su djelomično stvoreni kako bi se suprotstavili gospodarskom i političkom utjecaju Zapada se šire. Pozivi na dedolarizaciju postali su sve glasniji. Kad je Rusija zahtijevala plaćanje energije u rubljama, juanima ili UAE dirhamima, Kina i Indija su to prihvatile.

Mnoga su azijska gospodarstva sada pogođena rastućim cijenama nafte i deprecijacijom vlastite valute u odnosu na dolar. Kao rezultat toga, proširuju svoju upotrebu bilateralnih valutnih swapova koji im omogućuju međusobno trgovanje u vlastitim valutama. Prije osamdeset godina britanska funta izgubila je svoju dominantnu poziciju među svjetskim valutama. Globalizacija može funkcionirati samo ako većina sudionika vjeruje da unapređuje njihove interese. Ako ostali vjeruju da Zapad nepravedno koristi sustav za vlastitu korist, međunarodni poredak temeljen na pravilima raspada se i pojavit će se alternative.

Danas inflatorni pritisci i strahovi od recesije vrebaju veći dio svijeta. Dok bogati Zapad može priuštiti troškove sankcija, većina ostalih to ne može. Europa se sada natječe s Bangladešom, Šri Lankom, Pakistanom i Tajlandom za isporuke energije. U sjevernoj Africi i na Bliskom istoku nestašice energije i hrane povećale su izglede za političke nemire slične arapskom proljeću.

Ove zabrinutosti stvaraju značajne antizapadnjačke osjećaje u velikom dijelu globalnog juga. Iako nuklearno naoružana Rusija ne pokazuje spremnost da prekine rat, njezini čelnici ne mogu priuštiti gubitak; Zapad ubrzano gubi ostatak i tako potkopava sam međunarodni poredak temeljen na pravilima koji je nastojao stvoriti. Rješenje ove dileme koje najviše obećava vjerojatno će biti neka vrsta diplomatskog kompromisa.
