Estonija od NATO-a traži da na istoku Europe oformi vojsku koja se može obraniti od ruske ofenzive, piše The Guardian.
Glavni tajnik Ministarstva vanjskih poslova Republike Estonije Jonatan Vseviov rekao je da se Europa i NATO nikad neće moći vratiti u vrijeme prije ruske invazije na Ukrajinu koja je počela 24. veljače.
"Bit ćemo u potpuno novom sigurnosnom okruženju. Tu će biti nova Ukrajina, nova Rusija, nova Europa. Nećemo se moći vratiti u 23. veljače", rekao je Vseviov za The Guardian uoči NATO-ovog samita koji će se održati u četvrtak.
Više od 20 tisuća NATO-ovih vojnika, uglavnom Amerikanaca, već se nalazi u zemljama Baltika, Poljskoj i ostatku istočne Europe.
U toj je regiji prije ruskog napada na Ukrajinu bilo tek nekoliko tisuća vojnika. Oni su trebali biti prva linija obrane od nekog hipotetskog ruskog napada i jamačno bi bili poraženi u bilo kakvom sukobu s Rusima. Međutim, kako je među njima bilo i američkih vojnika i vojnika iz drugih zapadnih zemalja, oni su zapravo trebali poslužiti kao upozorenje Rusima da će te zemlje u slučaju ofenzive poslati znatno više vojnika.
Vseviov, bivši ambasador Estonije u SAD-u, smatra da se Rusija u slučaju invazije na Ukrajinu do te mjere preračunala da Zapad više ne može pretpostavljati da će Moskva shvatiti to upozorenje.
"Princip koji se bazira na trupama koje služe više kao upozorenje počiva na pretpostavki da taj kojeg se upozorava shvaća poveznicu između upozorenja i dolaska dodatnih trupa", rekao je Vseviov. "Znajući to, sada o sigurnosti NATO-a i Europe moramo razmišljati dugoročno. Moramo prijeći na odvraćanje."
Vseviov je rekao da bi količina vojnika ovisila o planovima i različitim situacijama u različitim zemljama. Vojska ne bi morala biti toliko velika da zaustavi napredovanje ruskih vojnika, ali bi morala biti dovoljno velika da im pruži dostojan otpor. "Moramo se odviknuti od slanja pojačanja. U zemljama na fronti u startu moramo imati više vojnika. Mislim da će se NATO složiti da se moramo kretati u tom smjeru, a detalje ćemo kasnije precizirati", rekao je Vseviov.
Jake Sullivan, savjetnik za nacionalnu sigurnost američkog predsjednika Joea Bidena, potvrdio je da će se ovog tjedna raspravljati o NATO-ovom stavu u Europi. "Naš ministar obrane i zapovjednik NATO-ovih europskih snaga drže da smo trenutno zauzeli primjeren stav. Drugo je pitanje kakav ćemo stav zauzeti na duge staze. Predsjednik SAD-a ovog će četvrtka na samitu NATO-a o tome razgovarati sa svojim saveznicima", rekao je Sullivan.
Otkad je završio Hladni rat, NATO vojsku i opremu više ne može s lakoćom prebacivati sa zapada na istok. Umirovljeni kontraadmiral Mark Montgomery, bivši zamjenik direktora za planiranje, rekao je da je značajno opao broj vagona za transport tenkova i druge teške opreme te da se transportna mreža tek nedavno počela obnavljati.
"Mislim da je to pokazatelj da je plan baltičkih zemalja, da se SAD dodatno integrira s više vojske, dobar potez", rekao je Montgomery. "Želite da vam američki vojnici pružaju podršku od prvog dana."

Estonija od NATO-a traži da na istoku Europe oformi vojsku koja se može obraniti od ruske ofenzive, piše The Guardian.
Glavni tajnik Ministarstva vanjskih poslova Republike Estonije Jonatan Vseviov rekao je da se Europa i NATO nikad neće moći vratiti u vrijeme prije ruske invazije na Ukrajinu koja je počela 24. veljače.
"Bit ćemo u potpuno novom sigurnosnom okruženju. Tu će biti nova Ukrajina, nova Rusija, nova Europa. Nećemo se moći vratiti u 23. veljače", rekao je Vseviov za The Guardian uoči NATO-ovog samita koji će se održati u četvrtak.
Više od 20 tisuća NATO-ovih vojnika, uglavnom Amerikanaca, već se nalazi u zemljama Baltika, Poljskoj i ostatku istočne Europe.
U toj je regiji prije ruskog napada na Ukrajinu bilo tek nekoliko tisuća vojnika. Oni su trebali biti prva linija obrane od nekog hipotetskog ruskog napada i jamačno bi bili poraženi u bilo kakvom sukobu s Rusima. Međutim, kako je među njima bilo i američkih vojnika i vojnika iz drugih zapadnih zemalja, oni su zapravo trebali poslužiti kao upozorenje Rusima da će te zemlje u slučaju ofenzive poslati znatno više vojnika.
Vseviov, bivši ambasador Estonije u SAD-u, smatra da se Rusija u slučaju invazije na Ukrajinu do te mjere preračunala da Zapad više ne može pretpostavljati da će Moskva shvatiti to upozorenje.
"Princip koji se bazira na trupama koje služe više kao upozorenje počiva na pretpostavki da taj kojeg se upozorava shvaća poveznicu između upozorenja i dolaska dodatnih trupa", rekao je Vseviov. "Znajući to, sada o sigurnosti NATO-a i Europe moramo razmišljati dugoročno. Moramo prijeći na odvraćanje."
Vseviov je rekao da bi količina vojnika ovisila o planovima i različitim situacijama u različitim zemljama. Vojska ne bi morala biti toliko velika da zaustavi napredovanje ruskih vojnika, ali bi morala biti dovoljno velika da im pruži dostojan otpor. "Moramo se odviknuti od slanja pojačanja. U zemljama na fronti u startu moramo imati više vojnika. Mislim da će se NATO složiti da se moramo kretati u tom smjeru, a detalje ćemo kasnije precizirati", rekao je Vseviov.
Jake Sullivan, savjetnik za nacionalnu sigurnost američkog predsjednika Joea Bidena, potvrdio je da će se ovog tjedna raspravljati o NATO-ovom stavu u Europi. "Naš ministar obrane i zapovjednik NATO-ovih europskih snaga drže da smo trenutno zauzeli primjeren stav. Drugo je pitanje kakav ćemo stav zauzeti na duge staze. Predsjednik SAD-a ovog će četvrtka na samitu NATO-a o tome razgovarati sa svojim saveznicima", rekao je Sullivan.
Otkad je završio Hladni rat, NATO vojsku i opremu više ne može s lakoćom prebacivati sa zapada na istok. Umirovljeni kontraadmiral Mark Montgomery, bivši zamjenik direktora za planiranje, rekao je da je značajno opao broj vagona za transport tenkova i druge teške opreme te da se transportna mreža tek nedavno počela obnavljati.
"Mislim da je to pokazatelj da je plan baltičkih zemalja, da se SAD dodatno integrira s više vojske, dobar potez", rekao je Montgomery. "Želite da vam američki vojnici pružaju podršku od prvog dana."
