Nikola Mektić i Mate Pavić završit će 2021. kao najbolji par na ATP ljestvici najboljih teniskih dvojaca svijeta, a raspletom pariškog Mastersa postali su nedostižni za Amerikanca Rajeeva Rama i Britanca Joea Salisburyja, koji su im jedini bili prijetnja.
Za Matu Pavića ovo je treći put da godinu završava kao dio najboljeg para, a Nikola Mektić je treći partner s kojim je Pavić došao do vrha. Prošle je godine do tog ostvarenja stigao s Brazilcem Brunom Soaresom, a 2018. je bio najbolji u kombinaciji s Austrijancem Oliverom Marachom.
- Iznimno sam sretan. Istina, ovo mi je treći put u posljednje četiri godine i s trećim partnerom, ali sam prvi put to postigao s Hrvatom, što je veliko postignuće za nas osobno, ali i općenito za hrvatski tenis - izjavio je u priopćenju ATP Toura Mate Pavić.
Mektić će prvi put godinu završiti na prvom mjestu ATP ljestvice.
- To je doista lijepo postignuće, pogotovo nakon ovakve sezone kakvu smo imali. Veselio sam se tome. Kad sam vidio kako nam je krenulo, to je postao jedan od ciljeva. Lijepo je završiti godinu na broju 1, što je kruna cijele sezone u kojoj smo imali doista lijepih pobjeda i velikih naslova - rekao je Nikola Mektić.
U godini prepunoj uspjeha 32-godišnji Zagrepčanin i 28-godišnji Splićanin osvojili su devet naslova među kojima se ističu trofej osvojen u Wimbledonu te zlatna medalja na Olimpijskim igrama u Tokiju.
Do kraja sezone Mektiću i Paviću na ATP Touru ostaje nastup na završnom turniru osam najboljih parova svijeta, na kojem je Zagrepčanin trijumfirao prošle godine s Nizozemcem Wesleyjem Koolhofom, a Splićanu je to jedan od rijetkih trofeja koji mu nedostaje u kolekciji.
- Imali smo odličnu sezonu i veselimo se igranju u Torinu, na ovogodišnjem ATP Finalu. Pokušat ćemo završiti sezonu onako kako smo je i započeli - rekao je Pavić.
Hrvatskom paru je čestitao i predsjednik ATP-a Andrea Gaudenzi.
- Čestitke Nikoli i Mati na iznimnoj sezoni i na broju 1. Impresivno je kako su započeli sezonu i koliko su uspjeha imali u njihovoj prvoj godini suradnje te bi doista trebali biti ponosni na svoja ostvarenja - izjavio je Gaudenzi.
Mektić i Pavić će biti prvi nositelji ATP Finala kojem će od 14. do 21. studenoga po prvi put domaćinom biti Torino, nakon što je od 2009. do 2020. završni turnir igran u londonskoj O2 Areni.
Nakon ATP Finala, Nikola i Mate će zaigrati i za hrvatsku Davis Cup reprezentaciju i ponovno u Torinu, gdje ih 25. studenoga očekuje dvoboj grupne faze protiv Australije, a 28. studenoga protiv Mađarske.

Nikola Mektić i Mate Pavić završit će 2021. kao najbolji par na ATP ljestvici najboljih teniskih dvojaca svijeta, a raspletom pariškog Mastersa postali su nedostižni za Amerikanca Rajeeva Rama i Britanca Joea Salisburyja, koji su im jedini bili prijetnja.
Za Matu Pavića ovo je treći put da godinu završava kao dio najboljeg para, a Nikola Mektić je treći partner s kojim je Pavić došao do vrha. Prošle je godine do tog ostvarenja stigao s Brazilcem Brunom Soaresom, a 2018. je bio najbolji u kombinaciji s Austrijancem Oliverom Marachom.
- Iznimno sam sretan. Istina, ovo mi je treći put u posljednje četiri godine i s trećim partnerom, ali sam prvi put to postigao s Hrvatom, što je veliko postignuće za nas osobno, ali i općenito za hrvatski tenis - izjavio je u priopćenju ATP Toura Mate Pavić.
Mektić će prvi put godinu završiti na prvom mjestu ATP ljestvice.
- To je doista lijepo postignuće, pogotovo nakon ovakve sezone kakvu smo imali. Veselio sam se tome. Kad sam vidio kako nam je krenulo, to je postao jedan od ciljeva. Lijepo je završiti godinu na broju 1, što je kruna cijele sezone u kojoj smo imali doista lijepih pobjeda i velikih naslova - rekao je Nikola Mektić.
U godini prepunoj uspjeha 32-godišnji Zagrepčanin i 28-godišnji Splićanin osvojili su devet naslova među kojima se ističu trofej osvojen u Wimbledonu te zlatna medalja na Olimpijskim igrama u Tokiju.
Do kraja sezone Mektiću i Paviću na ATP Touru ostaje nastup na završnom turniru osam najboljih parova svijeta, na kojem je Zagrepčanin trijumfirao prošle godine s Nizozemcem Wesleyjem Koolhofom, a Splićanu je to jedan od rijetkih trofeja koji mu nedostaje u kolekciji.
- Imali smo odličnu sezonu i veselimo se igranju u Torinu, na ovogodišnjem ATP Finalu. Pokušat ćemo završiti sezonu onako kako smo je i započeli - rekao je Pavić.

Mektić i Pavić će biti prvi nositelji ATP Finala kojem će od 14. do 21. studenoga po prvi put domaćinom biti Torino, nakon što je od 2009. do 2020. završni turnir igran u londonskoj O2 Areni.
Nakon ATP Finala, Nikola i Mate će zaigrati i za hrvatsku Davis Cup reprezentaciju i ponovno u Torinu, gdje ih 25. studenoga očekuje dvoboj grupne faze protiv Australije, a 28. studenoga protiv Mađarske.
