Britanski biciklist Simon Yates (Mitchelton-Scott) pobjednik je devete etape ovogodišnjeg "Gira d'Italia" vožene od Pesco Sannite do vrha usona na Gran sasso d'Italia u dužini od 225 kilometara te je time povećao svoju prednost u ukupnom redoslijedu.
Yates se gotovo čitavu etapu držao uz svoje najveće konkurente za ukupnu pobjedu, te je tek 100-tinjak metara prije cilja odlučio krenuti u sprint za etapnu pobjedu. Drugo mjesto u etapi zauzeo je Francuz Thibaut Pinot (Groupama-FDJ), a treće Kolumbijac Esteban Chaves (Mitchelton-Scott) koji su ciljem prošli u vremenu pobjednika.
Prošlogodišnji pobjednik "Gira", Nizozemac Tom Dumoulin (Sunweb) nije mogao pratiti završno ubrzanje te je ciljem prošao kao osmi sa 12 sekundi zaostatka za Yatesom, no najveći gubitnik nedjeljne etape bio je Brtanac Chris Froome (Sky). Prošlogodišnji pobjednik "Tour de Francea" i "Vuelta a Espane" je i prije devete etape zaostajao za Yatesom 1:10 minuta, a kako je u nedjelju izgubio kontakt s glavnom skupinom oko dva kilometra prije cilja, izgubio je dodatnih 1:17 minuta pa je sada na 11. poziciji i praktički bez izgleda da istovremeno bude aktualni pobjednik na sve tri trotjedne utrke.
U ukupnom redoslijedu Yates sada ima 32 sekunde bolje vrijeme od drugog Chavesa, odnosno 38 sekundi od trećeg Dumoulina.

Britanski biciklist Simon Yates (Mitchelton-Scott) pobjednik je devete etape ovogodišnjeg "Gira d'Italia" vožene od Pesco Sannite do vrha usona na Gran sasso d'Italia u dužini od 225 kilometara te je time povećao svoju prednost u ukupnom redoslijedu.
Yates se gotovo čitavu etapu držao uz svoje najveće konkurente za ukupnu pobjedu, te je tek 100-tinjak metara prije cilja odlučio krenuti u sprint za etapnu pobjedu. Drugo mjesto u etapi zauzeo je Francuz Thibaut Pinot (Groupama-FDJ), a treće Kolumbijac Esteban Chaves (Mitchelton-Scott) koji su ciljem prošli u vremenu pobjednika.
Prošlogodišnji pobjednik "Gira", Nizozemac Tom Dumoulin (Sunweb) nije mogao pratiti završno ubrzanje te je ciljem prošao kao osmi sa 12 sekundi zaostatka za Yatesom, no najveći gubitnik nedjeljne etape bio je Brtanac Chris Froome (Sky). Prošlogodišnji pobjednik "Tour de Francea" i "Vuelta a Espane" je i prije devete etape zaostajao za Yatesom 1:10 minuta, a kako je u nedjelju izgubio kontakt s glavnom skupinom oko dva kilometra prije cilja, izgubio je dodatnih 1:17 minuta pa je sada na 11. poziciji i praktički bez izgleda da istovremeno bude aktualni pobjednik na sve tri trotjedne utrke.
U ukupnom redoslijedu Yates sada ima 32 sekunde bolje vrijeme od drugog Chavesa, odnosno 38 sekundi od trećeg Dumoulina.
