Metabolički sindrom nije nešto o čemu se malo govori, za kojeg možda uopće niste čuli, iako je to jedna od najvećih opasnosti koja prijeti zdravlju ljudi u suvremenom svijetu.

Problem je izuzetno čest, posebno među starijom populacijom, a istodobno je vrlo zabrinjavajuće što se metabolički sindrom posljednjih godina brzo širi među mlađima. Tri od pet simptoma dovoljna su za da razmislite, jeste li i sami pogođeni.

Istraživanje, nedavno objavljeno u časopisu American Medical Association, donijelo je zabrinjavajuće nalaze. Istraživači procjenjuju da metabolički sindrom pogađa čak polovicu svih ljudi starijih od 60 godina.

Istodobno se širi i među mlađom populacijom. Upravo je među ljudima u dobi od 20 do 39 godina najizraženiji skok broja posljednjih godina. No da bismo razumjeli zašto je to toliko problematično, prvo moramo znati, naravno, što pojam "metabolički sindrom" uopće znači. To je sindrom definiran s pet glavnih simptoma.

Ti simptomi uključuju veliki opseg struka, visoki krvni tlak, povišenu razinu šećera u krvi, prekomjernu razinu triglicerida i povišeni LDL-kolesterol. O metaboličkom sindromu ne govorimo samo u slučajevima kada je kod nekoga prisutno svih pet simptoma. Dovoljna su tri simptoma.

Ponekad može proći i nekoliko godina prije nego što se pojave prvi problemi. U osnovi, metabolički sindrom uglavnom se odnosi na čimbenike rizika, koji na kraju mogu prerasti u ozbiljnu bolest. Što su duže prisutni ti simptomi, veća je šansa da će osoba razviti dijabetes tipa 2, jednu od kardiovaskularnih bolesti, itd.

Rizik za ozbiljnu dijagnozu

Problem može biti i u tome što mnogi ljudi uopće ne znaju da pripadaju populaciji u kojoj možemo govoriti o metaboličkom sindromu. Nije nužno da su isprva prisutni posebni problemi.

Zbog toga je izuzetno važno redovito pratiti ili mjeriti spomenute vrijednosti.

Pažnja istraživača sada je usmjerena i na mlađu populaciju. Pogotovo u posljednjih nekoliko godina, stručnjaci su više fokusirani na metabolički sindrom kod mlađih ljudi. U prošlosti je redovita provjera navedenih faktora rizika bila rezervirana uglavnom za stariju populaciju.

Između ostalog, metabolički sindrom može povećati rizik od ishemijskog moždanog udara - a porast broja mladih kojima je dijagnosticiran ovaj oblik moždanog udara jedan je od glavnih poticaja da istraživači obrasrte više pažnje na prisutnost čimbenika rizika u skupini koja nije ranije dobivala toliko pažnje kada je riječ o rješavanju metaboličkog sindroma.

Može se uočiti zanimljiv fenomen: budući da su stariji ljudi svjesni da pripadaju ranjivoj skupini, često više pažnje posvećuju svom zdravlju, pa učestalost određenih bolesti među ovom populacijom čak opada. S druge strane, mlađi ljudi misle da se ne moraju previše brinuti o svom zdravlju, a onda ih iznenada iznenadi ozbiljna dijagnoza.

Preventivne mjere

Stoga je izuzetno važno da mlađa populacija također počne sustavno pratiti moguću prisutnost glavnih simptoma ili čimbenika rizika, koji su grupirani pod pojmom "metabolički sindrom".

Istodobno, važno je da mlađi ljudi obraćaju više pažnje na osnovne preventivne mjere koje mogu smanjiti rizik od ovog sindroma. Posebno je važno izbjegavati stres, paziti na dovoljno vježbanja i zdravu prehranu te naravno da pušači što prije prestanu pušiti.

Istodobno, trebali biste biti svjesni da metabolički sindrom nikako nije svojstven ljudima s prekomjernom tjelesnom težinom, kao što se na prvi pogled može činiti, ali ni izdaleka nije rijedak ni među onima čiji je indeks tjelesne mase unutar normalnih vrijednosti.

Metabolički sindrom nije nešto o čemu se malo govori, za kojeg možda uopće niste čuli, iako je to jedna od najvećih opasnosti koja prijeti zdravlju ljudi u suvremenom svijetu.

Problem je izuzetno čest, posebno među starijom populacijom, a istodobno je vrlo zabrinjavajuće što se metabolički sindrom posljednjih godina brzo širi među mlađima. Tri od pet simptoma dovoljna su za da razmislite, jeste li i sami pogođeni.

Istraživanje, nedavno objavljeno u časopisu American Medical Association, donijelo je zabrinjavajuće nalaze. Istraživači procjenjuju da metabolički sindrom pogađa čak polovicu svih ljudi starijih od 60 godina.

Istodobno se širi i među mlađom populacijom. Upravo je među ljudima u dobi od 20 do 39 godina najizraženiji skok broja posljednjih godina. No da bismo razumjeli zašto je to toliko problematično, prvo moramo znati, naravno, što pojam "metabolički sindrom" uopće znači. To je sindrom definiran s pet glavnih simptoma.

Ti simptomi uključuju veliki opseg struka, visoki krvni tlak, povišenu razinu šećera u krvi, prekomjernu razinu triglicerida i povišeni LDL-kolesterol. O metaboličkom sindromu ne govorimo samo u slučajevima kada je kod nekoga prisutno svih pet simptoma. Dovoljna su tri simptoma.

Ponekad može proći i nekoliko godina prije nego što se pojave prvi problemi. U osnovi, metabolički sindrom uglavnom se odnosi na čimbenike rizika, koji na kraju mogu prerasti u ozbiljnu bolest. Što su duže prisutni ti simptomi, veća je šansa da će osoba razviti dijabetes tipa 2, jednu od kardiovaskularnih bolesti, itd.

Rizik za ozbiljnu dijagnozu

Problem može biti i u tome što mnogi ljudi uopće ne znaju da pripadaju populaciji u kojoj možemo govoriti o metaboličkom sindromu. Nije nužno da su isprva prisutni posebni problemi.

Zbog toga je izuzetno važno redovito pratiti ili mjeriti spomenute vrijednosti.

Pažnja istraživača sada je usmjerena i na mlađu populaciju. Pogotovo u posljednjih nekoliko godina, stručnjaci su više fokusirani na metabolički sindrom kod mlađih ljudi. U prošlosti je redovita provjera navedenih faktora rizika bila rezervirana uglavnom za stariju populaciju.

Između ostalog, metabolički sindrom može povećati rizik od ishemijskog moždanog udara - a porast broja mladih kojima je dijagnosticiran ovaj oblik moždanog udara jedan je od glavnih poticaja da istraživači obrasrte više pažnje na prisutnost čimbenika rizika u skupini koja nije ranije dobivala toliko pažnje kada je riječ o rješavanju metaboličkog sindroma.

Može se uočiti zanimljiv fenomen: budući da su stariji ljudi svjesni da pripadaju ranjivoj skupini, često više pažnje posvećuju svom zdravlju, pa učestalost određenih bolesti među ovom populacijom čak opada. S druge strane, mlađi ljudi misle da se ne moraju previše brinuti o svom zdravlju, a onda ih iznenada iznenadi ozbiljna dijagnoza.

Preventivne mjere

Stoga je izuzetno važno da mlađa populacija također počne sustavno pratiti moguću prisutnost glavnih simptoma ili čimbenika rizika, koji su grupirani pod pojmom "metabolički sindrom".

Istodobno, važno je da mlađi ljudi obraćaju više pažnje na osnovne preventivne mjere koje mogu smanjiti rizik od ovog sindroma. Posebno je važno izbjegavati stres, paziti na dovoljno vježbanja i zdravu prehranu te naravno da pušači što prije prestanu pušiti.

Istodobno, trebali biste biti svjesni da metabolički sindrom nikako nije svojstven ljudima s prekomjernom tjelesnom težinom, kao što se na prvi pogled može činiti, ali ni izdaleka nije rijedak ni među onima čiji je indeks tjelesne mase unutar normalnih vrijednosti.

Metabolički sindrom nije nešto o čemu se malo govori, za kojeg možda uopće niste čuli, iako je to jedna od najvećih opasnosti koja prijeti zdravlju ljudi u suvremenom svijetu.

Problem je izuzetno čest, posebno među starijom populacijom, a istodobno je vrlo zabrinjavajuće što se metabolički sindrom posljednjih godina brzo širi među mlađima. Tri od pet simptoma dovoljna su za da razmislite, jeste li i sami pogođeni.

Istraživanje, nedavno objavljeno u časopisu American Medical Association, donijelo je zabrinjavajuće nalaze. Istraživači procjenjuju da metabolički sindrom pogađa čak polovicu svih ljudi starijih od 60 godina.

Istodobno se širi i među mlađom populacijom. Upravo je među ljudima u dobi od 20 do 39 godina najizraženiji skok broja posljednjih godina. No...
