Dobar izgled zlata vrijedi, poznata je stvar. No za dobar izgled, i to je poznato, kozmetika je sredstvo bez kojeg se ne može postići željeni dojam. A u kozmetici, jedno od pravila glasi – što trajnija šminka, to trajniji efekt. Međutim, izgleda da je riječ o dvosjeklom maču.

Naime, znanstvenici sa Sveučilišta Notre Dame utvrdili su kako u više od polovine kozmetičkih proizvoda sadrži opasnu tvar, kemičarima poznatu kao PFAS.

Riječ je o takozvanim "vječnim kemikalijama", per- i polifluoralkilnim tvarima koje su nažalost sveprisutne te se nalaze u velikom broju proizvoda koje svakodnevno koristimo – od odjeće, tepiha i namještaja otpornih na mrlje i vodu, preko neprijanjajućeg posuđa, ambalaža otpornih na mast pa sve do pjene za gašenje požara.

PFAS kemikalije se teško razgrađuju u okolišu te se mogu nakupljati u ljudima i hrani.

PFAS i pandemija

Prema američkom Centru za kontrolu bolesti i prevenciju, te kemikalije se mogu pronaći u krvi svakog stanovnika Amerike, ali i cijeloga svijeta, te mogu rezultirati nastankom problema poput disfunkcije imunološkog sustava, poremećaja hormona, neplodnosti, pojave karcinoma i smanjene porođajne težine.

Istraživači sa Sveučilišta Notre Dame testirali su više od 230 često korištenih kozmetičkih proizvoda i otkrili da 56 posto podloga i proizvoda za oči, 48 posto proizvoda za usne i 47 posto maskara sadrži fluor, koji je pokazatelj PFAS-a.

Neke od najviših razina PFAS-a pronađene su u vodootpornoj maskari (82 posto) i dugotrajnom ružu (62 posto), prema studiji objavljenoj prije nekoliko dana u časopisu Environmental Science & Technology Letters.

Dvadeset devet proizvoda s višim koncentracijama fluora dodatno je testirano i utvrđeno je da sadrže između četiri i 13 specifičnih PFAS kemikalija, pokazalo je istraživanje.

Glasnogovornica američke Uprave za hranu i lijekove, koja regulira kozmetiku, rekla je da agencija ne komentira znanstvene studije; na njihovoj službenoj stranici je objavljeno da je bilo malo studija o prisutnosti kemikalija u kozmetici, a ona koja su objavljena uglavnom su utvrdila da je koncentracija na vrlo niskim razinama koje vjerojatno neće naštetiti ljudima. Vjerojatno!?

- Nažalost, još uvijek ne znamo pouzdano u kojoj mjeri i koje količine PFAS-a štete ljudskom organizmu - kazala nam je Biserka Riha, toksikologinja i stalna sudska vještakinja pri zagrebačkom Županijskom sudu.

- Istraživanja vezana uz PFAS su relativno novijeg datuma, mislim tek nekoliko godina, a to je premalo vremena da bismo mogli sa sigurnošću kazati bilo što.

U Hrvatskoj se ovom temom bavi jako malo ljudi, osobno ne znam nikoga, no iz dostupne literature rekla bih da je riječ o tvarima koje su neizbježne.

U vodama, krvotoku...

Naime, PFAS se nalazi u vodama, u otpadnim vodama, u ljudima, u krvotoku, a prema nekim istraživanjima, reklo bi se da, između ostalog, ozbiljno utječu na imunosni sustav ljudi - dodaje Riha.

- U okolnostima pandemije COVID-19, te osobito u okolnostima cijepljenja protiv koronapandemije, ta činjenica mogla bi biti važna. Pitanje je koliko upravo PFAS utječe na našu otpornost na COVID-19 i koliko je učinak cjepiva s njim povezan.

Naglašavam, sve ovo govorim krajnje načelno, bez ozbiljnog i osobnog znanstvenog uvida u temu, ali držim da znanstvenici širom svijeta opravdano predlažu da svaki proizvod koji sadrži PFAS mora na deklaraciji taj podatak imati jasno istaknut.

Dakako, bilo bi jako dobro da se u bliskoj budućnosti odredi neki prag, neka razina tolerancije jer nekim dozama jednostavno umaknuti ne možemo.

Problem kod per- i polifluoralkilnih tvari jest što se ne razlažu u organizmu, ne razlažu se nigdje, zato ih i opisujemo kao "vječne", kazala nam je Biserka Riha koji je veći dio svoje karijere provela kao forenzičarka.

Poziv na zabranu

Ni američka Agencija za zaštitu okoliša nije postavila primjenjive standarde za PFAS kemikalije kojima bi se zaštitilo ljudsko zdravlje. Samo dvije od ovih kemikalija, PFOA (perfluorooktanska kiselina) i PFOS (perfluorooktansulfonska kiselina), zdravstveno se reguliraju što tisuće drugih PFAS kemikalija ostavlja bez ikakve kontrole, bez praćenja i bez odgovarajućih regulacija.

S druge strane, UN-ov Odbor za onečišćujuće tvari poziva na potpunu zabranu PFOA i PFOS-a. Jedina iznimka bila bi uporaba u implantabilnim medicinskim uređajima.

Odbor UN-a također testira još jedan spoj obitelji PFAS: PFHxS, tvar koja je pronađena u krvnim testovima venecijanskih građana koji žive u područjima koja su najviše izložena zagađivanju.

Preporuka UN-a će biti predstavljena ove godine, a ako se usvoji, bila bi pravno obvezujuća za 181 državu, potpisnicu Stockholmske konvencije, uključujući i Hrvatsku.

Dobar izgled zlata vrijedi, poznata je stvar. No za dobar izgled, i to je poznato, kozmetika je sredstvo bez kojeg se ne može postići željeni dojam. A u kozmetici, jedno od pravila glasi – što trajnija šminka, to trajniji efekt. Međutim, izgleda da je riječ o dvosjeklom maču.

Naime, znanstvenici sa Sveučilišta Notre Dame utvrdili su kako u više od polovine kozmetičkih proizvoda sadrži opasnu tvar, kemičarima poznatu kao PFAS.

Riječ je o takozvanim "vječnim kemikalijama", per- i polifluoralkilnim tvarima koje su nažalost sveprisutne te se nalaze u velikom broju proizvoda koje svakodnevno koristimo – od odjeće, tepiha i namještaja otpornih na mrlje i vodu, preko neprijanjajućeg posuđa, ambalaža otpornih na mast pa sve do pjene za gašenje požara.

PFAS kemikalije se teško razgrađuju u okolišu te se mogu nakupljati u ljudima i hrani.

PFAS i pandemija

Prema američkom Centru za kontrolu bolesti i prevenciju, te kemikalije se mogu pronaći u krvi svakog stanovnika Amerike, ali i cijeloga svijeta, te mogu rezultirati nastankom problema poput disfunkcije imunološkog sustava, poremećaja hormona, neplodnosti, pojave karcinoma i smanjene porođajne težine.

Istraživači sa Sveučilišta Notre Dame testirali su više od 230 često korištenih kozmetičkih proizvoda i otkrili da 56 posto podloga i proizvoda za oči, 48 posto proizvoda za usne i 47 posto maskara sadrži fluor, koji je pokazatelj PFAS-a.

Neke od najviših razina PFAS-a pronađene su u vodootpornoj maskari (82 posto) i dugotrajnom ružu (62 posto), prema studiji objavljenoj prije nekoliko dana u časopisu Environmental Science & Technology Letters.

Dvadeset devet proizvoda s višim koncentracijama fluora dodatno je testirano i utvrđeno je da sadrže između četiri i 13 specifičnih PFAS kemikalija, pokazalo je istraživanje.

Glasnogovornica američke Uprave za hranu i lijekove, koja regulira kozmetiku, rekla je da agencija ne komentira znanstvene studije; na njihovoj službenoj stranici je objavljeno da je bilo malo studija o prisutnosti kemikalija u kozmetici, a ona koja su objavljena uglavnom su utvrdila da je koncentracija na vrlo niskim razinama koje vjerojatno neće naštetiti ljudima. Vjerojatno!?

- Nažalost, još uvijek ne znamo pouzdano u kojoj mjeri i koje količine PFAS-a štete ljudskom organizmu - kazala nam je Biserka Riha, toksikologinja i stalna sudska vještakinja pri zagrebačkom Županijskom sudu.

- Istraživanja vezana uz PFAS su relativno novijeg datuma, mislim tek nekoliko godina, a to je premalo vremena da bismo mogli sa sigurnošću kazati bilo što.

U Hrvatskoj se ovom temom bavi jako malo ljudi, osobno ne znam nikoga, no iz dostupne literature rekla bih da je riječ o tvarima koje su neizbježne.

U vodama, krvotoku...

Naime, PFAS se nalazi u vodama, u otpadnim vodama, u ljudima, u krvotoku, a prema nekim istraživanjima, reklo bi se da, između ostalog, ozbiljno utječu na imunosni sustav ljudi - dodaje Riha.

- U okolnostima pandemije COVID-19, te osobito u okolnostima cijepljenja protiv koronapandemije, ta činjenica mogla bi biti važna. Pitanje je koliko upravo PFAS utječe na našu otpornost na COVID-19 i koliko je učinak cjepiva s njim povezan.

Naglašavam, sve ovo govorim krajnje načelno, bez ozbiljnog i osobnog znanstvenog uvida u temu, ali držim da znanstvenici širom svijeta opravdano predlažu da svaki proizvod koji sadrži PFAS mora na deklaraciji taj podatak imati jasno istaknut.

Dakako, bilo bi jako dobro da se u bliskoj budućnosti odredi neki prag, neka razina tolerancije jer nekim dozama jednostavno umaknuti ne možemo.

Problem kod per- i polifluoralkilnih tvari jest što se ne razlažu u organizmu, ne razlažu se nigdje, zato ih i opisujemo kao "vječne", kazala nam je Biserka Riha koji je veći dio svoje karijere provela kao forenzičarka.

Poziv na zabranu

Ni američka Agencija za zaštitu okoliša nije postavila primjenjive standarde za PFAS kemikalije kojima bi se zaštitilo ljudsko zdravlje. Samo dvije od ovih kemikalija, PFOA (perfluorooktanska kiselina) i PFOS (perfluorooktansulfonska kiselina), zdravstveno se reguliraju što tisuće drugih PFAS kemikalija ostavlja bez ikakve kontrole, bez praćenja i bez odgovarajućih regulacija.

S druge strane, UN-ov Odbor za onečišćujuće tvari poziva na potpunu zabranu PFOA i PFOS-a. Jedina iznimka bila bi uporaba u implantabilnim medicinskim uređajima.

Odbor UN-a također testira još jedan spoj obitelji PFAS: PFHxS, tvar koja je pronađena u krvnim testovima venecijanskih građana koji žive u područjima koja su najviše izložena zagađivanju.

Preporuka UN-a će biti predstavljena ove godine, a ako se usvoji, bila bi pravno obvezujuća za 181 državu, potpisnicu Stockholmske konvencije, uključujući i Hrvatsku.
