Zika virus može dovesti do skupljanja testisa i time izazvati trajnu neplodnost muškaraca, upozoravaju stručnjaci.

Do otkrića je dovelo istraživanje provedeno na miševima, piše The Telegraph.

Naime, moglo bi doći do epidemije neplodnosti kod muškaraca jer su liječnici dokazali kako virus smanjuje broj spermatozoida i testosterona kod zaraženih muškaraca.

Vjeruje se kako je šteta nepopravljiva jer se nakon svega dva tjedna od zaraze testisi smanjuju, a stanice odumiru te se nakon još tjedan dana smanje na desetinu normalne veličine. Također, čak i ako je virus nestao iz tijela situacija se ne popravlja ni nakon šest tjedana. 

'Tako je zika jedini virus za koji se zna da utječe na plodnost kod muške populacije', govori profesor Diamond sa Washington School of Medicine te dodaje kako zika napada sertoli stanice koje se ne regeneriraju, a koje hrane rast stanica sperme.

Muškarci, nažalost nisu ni svjesni kako su postali neplodni sve dok ne pokušaju dobiti dijete, a kao simptomi javlja se slab spolni nagon, erektilna disfunkcija, umor, ali i smanjenje mišićne mase.

Zika virus može dovesti do skupljanja testisa i time izazvati trajnu neplodnost muškaraca, upozoravaju stručnjaci.

Do otkrića je dovelo istraživanje provedeno na miševima, piše The Telegraph.

Naime, moglo bi doći do epidemije neplodnosti kod muškaraca jer su liječnici dokazali kako virus smanjuje broj spermatozoida i testosterona kod zaraženih muškaraca.

Vjeruje se kako je šteta nepopravljiva jer se nakon svega dva tjedna od zaraze testisi smanjuju, a stanice odumiru te se nakon još tjedan dana smanje na desetinu normalne veličine. Također, čak i ako je virus nestao iz tijela situacija se ne popravlja ni nakon šest tjedana. 

'Tako je zika jedini virus za koji se zna da utječe na plodnost kod muške populacije', govori profesor Diamond sa Washington School of Medicine te dodaje kako zika napada sertoli stanice koje se ne regeneriraju, a koje hrane rast stanica sperme.

Muškarci, nažalost nisu ni svjesni kako su postali neplodni sve dok ne pokušaju dobiti dijete, a kao simptomi javlja se slab spolni nagon, erektilna disfunkcija, umor, ali i smanjenje mišićne mase.
