Australski znanstvenici otkrili su čudan objekt koji se vrti u Mliječnoj stazi za koji kažu da ne sliči ničemu što su astronomi do sada vidjeli.

Objekt, koji je prvi uočio student koji je radio na svom dodiplomskom radu, svaki sat tri puta oslobađa ogromnu količinu elektromagnetske energije.

Ciklus se ponavlja "svakih 18,18 minuta, kao po satu", rekla je astrofizičarka Natasha Hurley-Walker, koja je vodila istraživanje nakon otkrića studenta, koristeći teleskop Murchison Widefield Array u Australiji.

Iako postoje i drugi objekti u svemiru koji se uključuju i isključuju - poput pulsara - Hurley-Walker je rekla da je 18,18 minuta frekvencija koja nikada prije nije bila opažena.

Pronalaženje ovog objekta bilo je "nekako sablasno za astronoma", rekla je, "jer na nebu ne postoji ništa što se tako ponaša."
Istraživački tim sada radi na razumijevanju onoga što je otkrio.

Tragajući unatrag kroz godine podataka, uspjeli su utvrditi nekoliko činjenica: objekt je udaljen oko 4000 svjetlosnih godina od Zemlje, nevjerojatno je svijetao i ima izuzetno jako magnetsko polje.

Ali još uvijek postoje mnoge tajne koje treba otkriti.

"Ako napravite sve matematičke izračune, otkrit ćete da oni ne bi trebali imati dovoljno snage da proizvedu ovakve radio valove svakih 20 minuta", rekla je Hurley-Walker.

"To jednostavno ne bi trebalo biti moguće".

Objekt bi mogao biti nešto za što su istraživači teoretizirali da bi moglo postojati, ali nikada nisu vidjeli i dali su mu ime "magnetar ultra dugog perioda".

Može biti i bijeli patuljak, ostatak urušene zvijezde.

"Ali i to je prilično neobično. Znamo samo za jedan pulsar bijelog patuljka, i ništa tako sjajno kao ovaj", rekla je Hurley-Walker.

"Naravno, to bi moglo biti nešto na što nikada nismo ni pomislili - mogao bi biti neka potpuno nova vrsta objekta."

Na pitanje je li snažan, dosljedan radio signal iz svemira mogao biti djelo nekog drugog oblika života, Hurley-Walker je priznala:

"Bila sam zabrinuta da su to bili vanzemaljci."

Ali istraživački tim uspio je proučiti signal u širokom rasponu frekvencija.

"To znači da to mora biti prirodan proces, ovo nije umjetni signal", rekla je Hurley-Walker.

Sljedeći korak za znanstvenike je tragati za drugim ovakvim čudnim objektima diljem svemira.

"Više otkrića će reći astronomima je li ovo rijedak jednokratni događaj ili velika nova populacija koju nikada prije nismo primijetili", rekla je Hurley-Walker.

Rad znanstvenog tima o objektu objavljen je u najnovijem izdanju časopisa Nature.

Australski znanstvenici otkrili su čudan objekt koji se vrti u Mliječnoj stazi za koji kažu da ne sliči ničemu što su astronomi do sada vidjeli.

Objekt, koji je prvi uočio student koji je radio na svom dodiplomskom radu, svaki sat tri puta oslobađa ogromnu količinu elektromagnetske energije.

Ciklus se ponavlja "svakih 18,18 minuta, kao po satu", rekla je astrofizičarka Natasha Hurley-Walker, koja je vodila istraživanje nakon otkrića studenta, koristeći teleskop Murchison Widefield Array u Australiji.

Iako postoje i drugi objekti u svemiru koji se uključuju i isključuju - poput pulsara - Hurley-Walker je rekla da je 18,18 minuta frekvencija koja nikada prije nije bila opažena.

Pronalaženje ovog objekta bilo je "nekako sablasno za astronoma", rekla je, "jer na nebu ne postoji ništa što se tako ponaša."
Istraživački tim sada radi na razumijevanju onoga što je otkrio.

Tragajući unatrag kroz godine podataka, uspjeli su utvrditi nekoliko činjenica: objekt je udaljen oko 4000 svjetlosnih godina od Zemlje, nevjerojatno je svijetao i ima izuzetno jako magnetsko polje.

Ali još uvijek postoje mnoge tajne koje treba otkriti.

"Ako napravite sve matematičke izračune, otkrit ćete da oni ne bi trebali imati dovoljno snage da proizvedu ovakve radio valove svakih 20 minuta", rekla je Hurley-Walker.

"To jednostavno ne bi trebalo biti moguće".

Objekt bi mogao biti nešto za što su istraživači teoretizirali da bi moglo postojati, ali nikada nisu vidjeli i dali su mu ime "magnetar ultra dugog perioda".

Može biti i bijeli patuljak, ostatak urušene zvijezde.

"Ali i to je prilično neobično. Znamo samo za jedan pulsar bijelog patuljka, i ništa tako sjajno kao ovaj", rekla je Hurley-Walker.

"Naravno, to bi moglo biti nešto na što nikada nismo ni pomislili - mogao bi biti neka potpuno nova vrsta objekta."

Na pitanje je li snažan, dosljedan radio signal iz svemira mogao biti djelo nekog drugog oblika života, Hurley-Walker je priznala:

"Bila sam zabrinuta da su to bili vanzemaljci."

Ali istraživački tim uspio je proučiti signal u širokom rasponu frekvencija.

"To znači da to mora biti prirodan proces, ovo nije umjetni signal", rekla je Hurley-Walker.

Sljedeći korak za znanstvenike je tragati za drugim ovakvim čudnim objektima diljem svemira.

"Više otkrića će reći astronomima je li ovo rijedak jednokratni događaj ili velika nova populacija koju nikada prije nismo primijetili", rekla je Hurley-Walker.

Rad znanstvenog tima o objektu objavljen je u najnovijem izdanju časopisa Nature.

Australski znanstvenici otkrili su čudan objekt koji se vrti u Mliječnoj stazi za koji kažu da ne sliči ničemu što su astronomi do sada vidjeli.

Objekt, koji je prvi uočio student koji je radio na svom dodiplomskom radu, svaki sat tri puta oslobađa ogromnu količinu elektromagnetske energije.

Ciklus se ponavlja "svakih 18,18 minuta, kao po satu", rekla je astrofizičarka Natasha Hurley-Walker, koja je vodila istraživanje nakon otkrića studenta, koristeći teleskop Murchison Widefield Array u Australiji.

Iako postoje i drugi objekti u svemiru koji se uključuju i isključuju - poput pulsara - Hurley-Walker je rekla da je 18,18 minuta frekvencija koja nikada prije nije bila opažena.
