Od oceanskih dubina do planinskih visova, ljudi zagađuju planet sićušnim česticama plastike te je mikroplastika ušla i u naša tijela, s neizvjesnim posljedicama, upozoravaju znanstvenici.

Slike zagađenja plastikom postale su uobičajene: morska kornjača koja se ugušila zbog bačene vrećice za šoping, plastične boce za vodu koje prekrivaju naše plaže, a i svi su već navikli na "Veliki pacifički otok smeća", monstruoznu nakupinu plutajućeg otpada površine tri Francuske, tj.  1,6 milijuna četvornih kilometera.

"Otok" se nalazi između Kalifornije i Havaja i najveći je od pet oceanskih akumulacijskih zona na kojima se zbog oceanskih struja nakuplja otpad. Tim područjem pluta  80.000 tona plastike, ukupno sadrži 1,8 bilijuna predmeta raznih veličina, a 99 posto otpada čini plastika.

Svake se godine proizvedu milijuni tona plastike, uglavnom od fosilnih goriva. Kada završi u okolišu, plastika se razgrađuje u sve manje i manje dijelove.

"Prije 10 godina nismo mogli ni zamisliti da bi moglo biti toliko mnogo mikroplastike, nevidljive ljudskom oku, i da će biti posvuda oko nas", rekao je Jean- Francois Ghiglione istraživač u Laboratoriju za mikrobiološku oceanografiju u Francuskoj.

"I nismo mogli ni pojmiti da ćemo je pronaći u ljudskom tijelu", dodao je znanstvenik.

Sada, upozorava Ghiglione, sve više otkrivamo mikroplastiku u ljudskim organima, "uključujući u plućima, slezeni, bubrezima pa čak i u posteljici".

Ne treba ni čuditi i da udišemo te čestice koje su prisutne i u zraku, posebice mikrovlakna iz sintetske odjeće.

"Znamo da je mikroplastika u zraku, znamo da je svugdje oko nas", rekla je Laura Sadofsky, s britanskog fakulteta Hull York Medical School.

Njezin tim je u plućnom tkivu pronašao polipropilen i PET (Polietilen teraftalat), utvrdivši da vlakna dolaze od sintetičkih tkanina.

U ožujku su prvi tragovi PET-a pronađeni i u krvi.

S obzirom na maleni uzorak dobrovoljaca, znanstvenici smatraju da je prerano donositi zaključke, ali dijele bojazan da bi plastika, ako je u krvotoku, mogla doprijeti do svih organa.

Znanstvenici su 2021. pronašli mikroplastiku i u posteljici, izražavajući "veliku zabrinutost" zbog mogućih posljedica na razvoj fetusa.

No, zabrinutost nije isto što i dokazani rizik.

"Potencijalno je to veliki problem, ali nemamo znanstveni dokaz da sa sigurnošću potvrdimo o kojim se učincima radi, ako ih ima", rekao je Bart Koelmans, profesor na sveučilištu Wageningen.

WWF je 2019. objavio šokantno izvješće u kojem stoji da ljudi godinama konzumiraju i udišu do pet grama plastike tjedno, dovoljno za izradu bankovne kartice.

Koelmans, koji osporava metodologiju i rezultate studije, izračunao je da je tjedna količina bliža zrnu soli, ali da se "tijekom životnog vijeka ipak nakupi".

Dok se temeljita istraživanja na ljudima tek trebaju provesti, toksično djelovanje mikroplastike na životinjama pojačava naše strahove.

"Mikroplastika nevidljiva našem oku ima pogubne učinke na sve životinje koje smo proučavali u moru i na kopnu", rekao je Ghiglione.

On upozorava da mnoštvo kemikalija pronađenih u tim materijalima, uključujući umjetne boje, stabilizatore, nezapaljiva sredstva, mogu štetno djelovati na rast, metabolizam, šećer u krvi, krvni tlak i reproduktivno zdravlje.

Ranije ove godine UN je započeo rad na donošenju međunarodnog pravno obvezujućeg sporazuma za borbu protiv plastike kao globalne pošasti.

Godine 2019. je upotrijebljeno 460 milijuna tona plastike, dvostruko više nego 20 godina ranije. Manje od 10 posto je reciklirano.

Godišnja proizvodnja plastike od fosilnih goriva bi do 2060. mogla dosegnuti 1,2 milijarde tona, s otpadom koji premašuje milijardu tona., upozorila je prošli mjesec Organizacija za gospodarsku suradnju i razvoj (OECD).

Slike zagađenja plastikom postale su uobičajene: morska kornjača koja se ugušila zbog bačene vrećice za šoping, plastične boce za vodu koje prekrivaju naše plaže, a i svi su već navikli na "Veliki pacifički otok smeća", monstruoznu nakupinu plutajućeg otpada površine tri Francuske, tj.  1,6 milijuna četvornih kilometera.

"Otok" se nalazi između Kalifornije i Havaja i najveći je od pet oceanskih akumulacijskih zona na kojima se zbog oceanskih struja nakuplja otpad. Tim područjem pluta  80.000 tona plastike, ukupno sadrži 1,8 bilijuna predmeta raznih veličina, a 99 posto otpada čini plastika.

Svake se godine proizvedu milijuni tona plastike, uglavnom od fosilnih goriva. Kada završi u okolišu, plastika se razgrađuje u sve manje i manje dijelove.

"Prije 10 godina nismo mogli ni zamisliti da bi moglo biti toliko mnogo mikroplastike, nevidljive ljudskom oku, i da će biti posvuda oko nas", rekao je Jean- Francois Ghiglione istraživač u Laboratoriju za mikrobiološku oceanografiju u Francuskoj.

"I nismo mogli ni pojmiti da ćemo je pronaći u ljudskom tijelu", dodao je znanstvenik.

Sada, upozorava Ghiglione, sve više otkrivamo mikroplastiku u ljudskim organima, "uključujući u plućima, slezeni, bubrezima pa čak i u posteljici".

Ne treba ni čuditi i da udišemo te čestice koje su prisutne i u zraku, posebice mikrovlakna iz sintetske odjeće.

"Znamo da je mikroplastika u zraku, znamo da je svugdje oko nas", rekla je Laura Sadofsky, s britanskog fakulteta Hull York Medical School.

Njezin tim je u plućnom tkivu pronašao polipropilen i PET (Polietilen teraftalat), utvrdivši da vlakna dolaze od sintetičkih tkanina.

U ožujku su prvi tragovi PET-a pronađeni i u krvi.

S obzirom na maleni uzorak dobrovoljaca, znanstvenici smatraju da je prerano donositi zaključke, ali dijele bojazan da bi plastika, ako je u krvotoku, mogla doprijeti do svih organa.

Znanstvenici su 2021. pronašli mikroplastiku i u posteljici, izražavajući "veliku zabrinutost" zbog mogućih posljedica na razvoj fetusa.

No, zabrinutost nije isto što i dokazani rizik.

"Potencijalno je to veliki problem, ali nemamo znanstveni dokaz da sa sigurnošću potvrdimo o kojim se učincima radi, ako ih ima", rekao je Bart Koelmans, profesor na sveučilištu Wageningen.

WWF je 2019. objavio šokantno izvješće u kojem stoji da ljudi godinama konzumiraju i udišu do pet grama plastike tjedno, dovoljno za izradu bankovne kartice.

Koelmans, koji osporava metodologiju i rezultate studije, izračunao je da je tjedna količina bliža zrnu soli, ali da se "tijekom životnog vijeka ipak nakupi".

Dok se temeljita istraživanja na ljudima tek trebaju provesti, toksično djelovanje mikroplastike na životinjama pojačava naše strahove.

"Mikroplastika nevidljiva našem oku ima pogubne učinke na sve životinje koje smo proučavali u moru i na kopnu", rekao je Ghiglione.

On upozorava da mnoštvo kemikalija pronađenih u tim materijalima, uključujući umjetne boje, stabilizatore, nezapaljiva sredstva, mogu štetno djelovati na rast, metabolizam, šećer u krvi, krvni tlak i reproduktivno zdravlje.

Ranije ove godine UN je započeo rad na donošenju međunarodnog pravno obvezujućeg sporazuma za borbu protiv plastike kao globalne pošasti.

Godine 2019. je upotrijebljeno 460 milijuna tona plastike, dvostruko više nego 20 godina ranije. Manje od 10 posto je reciklirano.

Godišnja proizvodnja plastike od fosilnih goriva bi do 2060. mogla dosegnuti 1,2 milijarde tona, s otpadom koji premašuje milijardu tona., upozorila je prošli mjesec Organizacija za gospodarsku suradnju i razvoj (OECD).

Od oceanskih dubina do planinskih visova, ljudi zagađuju planet sićušnim česticama plastike te je mikroplastika ušla i u naša tijela, s neizvjesnim posljedicama, upozoravaju znanstvenici.
