Viši računovodstveni službenik Wladimir Kuk je krajem 1902. godine u austrijskoj vojnoj tiskovini Heereszeitung objavio seriju članaka pod naslovom Naša mornarica, gdje predlaže osnivanje udruge za promotivnu potporu domaćeg pomorstva i mornarice. Godinu poslije, novinama, saborskim zastupnicima i industrijalcima poslao je reklamnu brošuru u kojoj izravno poziva na osnivanje pomorske udruge. Aktivnoj promociji pridružio se i Josef Graf, urednik novina Information.

Članarine i donacije

Sve to rezultiralo je da se 18. rujna 1904. u viteškoj dvorani donjoaustrijske ladanjske kuće na Herrengasse okupi jedan, isprva uski, krug ljudi i na osnivačkoj skupštini osnuje Udrugu za promicanje austrijskog brodarstva (Vereins zur Förderung der österreichischen Schiffahrt). Za prvog izvršnog predsjednika izabran je jedan od inicijatora, Josef Graf.

Godine 1907. ime udruženja promijenjeno je u Udruga austrijske flote (Österreichischer Flottenverein). Iste je godine broj članova dosegnuo 1000, a predsjednici i pokrovitelji udruženja bili su najistaknutiji članovi društva, pripadnici carske obitelji i plemstva, najviši dužnosnici mornarice i utjecajni gospodarstvenici. Zahvaljujući kontinuiranim promotivnim aktivnostima, broj članova udruženja konstantno je rastao i krajem 1910. dosegnuo broj od 10.000 članova.

Osim redovnih članarina, čiji su iznosi te godine smanjeni radi privlačenja dodatnih članova, udruženje je financirano i izdašnim donacijama imućnih sponzora. Tako je 1909. godine moglo sufinancirati izgradnju mornaričkog doma u Trstu. Kako bi se pribavila sredstva za gradnju broda nove klase, koja bi zamijenila zastarjela plovila klase Monarch, udruženje je organiziralo brojne izlete i krstarenja po Mediteranu. Uz izdavaštvo i turizam, bavilo se i drugim komercijalnim djelatnostima, poput tada vrlo profitabilne kinematografske.

Pred početak Prvog svjetskog rata udruženje će imati 45 tisuća članova u više od 200 podružnica diljem Europe. U ratnom razdoblju djelovat će u državnoj strukturi Službene ratne opskrbe (Offizielle Kriegsfürsorge), čije su glavne organizacije bile Crveni križ, Ured za ratnu pomoć (Kriegshilfsbüro) i Ured za ratnu opskrbu (Kriegsfürsorgeamt).

Pomoć u ratu

Kako bi se pomoglo brojne potrebite te poboljšalo vojničke uvjete na bojištima, udruženje je prionulo tiskanju knjiga, razglednica i proizvodnji različitih memorabilija, poput uporabnih predmeta, ukrasa za odjevne predmete, poštanskih maraka, značaka, medalja..., a sredstva od prodaje išla su u humanitarne svrhe. Hrvatski pomorski muzej Split u vlasništvu ima jednu takvu značku i sedam razglednica.

Zahvaljujući masovnoj proširenosti, stalnim propagandnim akcijama, a ponajviše smanjenjem iznosa članarine, članstvo se proširilo izvan početnih elitnih društvenih krugova, a udruženje je u Prvom svjetskom ratu za mornaricu kupilo i jednu podmornicu, te dva zrakoplova.

Još od 1905. udruženje je izdavalo časopis Zastava (Die Flagge), koji je izlazio kao mjesečnik do travnja 1919. Ubrzo nakon gašenja časopisa i samo je udruženje, tada s rekordnih 80 tisuća članova, prestalo postojati, sve kao posljedica nestanka Monarhije čije je interese promicalo.​ HPMS u posjedu je i nekoliko primjeraka časopisa Die Flagge.

Viši računovodstveni službenik Wladimir Kuk je krajem 1902. godine u austrijskoj vojnoj tiskovini Heereszeitung objavio seriju članaka pod naslovom Naša mornarica, gdje predlaže osnivanje udruge za promotivnu potporu domaćeg pomorstva i mornarice. Godinu poslije, novinama, saborskim zastupnicima i industrijalcima poslao je reklamnu brošuru u kojoj izravno poziva na osnivanje pomorske udruge. Aktivnoj promociji pridružio se i Josef Graf, urednik novina Information.

Članarine i donacije

Sve to rezultiralo je da se 18. rujna 1904. u viteškoj dvorani donjoaustrijske ladanjske kuće na Herrengasse okupi jedan, isprva uski, krug ljudi i na osnivačkoj skupštini osnuje Udrugu za promicanje austrijskog brodarstva (Vereins zur Förderung der österreichischen Schiffahrt). Za prvog izvršnog predsjednika izabran je jedan od inicijatora, Josef Graf.

Godine 1907. ime udruženja promijenjeno je u Udruga austrijske flote (Österreichischer Flottenverein). Iste je godine broj članova dosegnuo 1000, a predsjednici i pokrovitelji udruženja bili su najistaknutiji članovi društva, pripadnici carske obitelji i plemstva, najviši dužnosnici mornarice i utjecajni gospodarstvenici. Zahvaljujući kontinuiranim promotivnim aktivnostima, broj članova udruženja konstantno je rastao i krajem 1910. dosegnuo broj od 10.000 članova.

Osim redovnih članarina, čiji su iznosi te godine smanjeni radi privlačenja dodatnih članova, udruženje je financirano i izdašnim donacijama imućnih sponzora. Tako je 1909. godine moglo sufinancirati izgradnju mornaričkog doma u Trstu. Kako bi se pribavila sredstva za gradnju broda nove klase, koja bi zamijenila zastarjela plovila klase Monarch, udruženje je organiziralo brojne izlete i krstarenja po Mediteranu. Uz izdavaštvo i turizam, bavilo se i drugim komercijalnim djelatnostima, poput tada vrlo profitabilne kinematografske.

Pred početak Prvog svjetskog rata udruženje će imati 45 tisuća članova u više od 200 podružnica diljem Europe. U ratnom razdoblju djelovat će u državnoj strukturi Službene ratne opskrbe (Offizielle Kriegsfürsorge), čije su glavne organizacije bile Crveni križ, Ured za ratnu pomoć (Kriegshilfsbüro) i Ured za ratnu opskrbu (Kriegsfürsorgeamt).

Pomoć u ratu

Kako bi se pomoglo brojne potrebite te poboljšalo vojničke uvjete na bojištima, udruženje je prionulo tiskanju knjiga, razglednica i proizvodnji različitih memorabilija, poput uporabnih predmeta, ukrasa za odjevne predmete, poštanskih maraka, značaka, medalja..., a sredstva od prodaje išla su u humanitarne svrhe. Hrvatski pomorski muzej Split u vlasništvu ima jednu takvu značku i sedam razglednica.

Zahvaljujući masovnoj proširenosti, stalnim propagandnim akcijama, a ponajviše smanjenjem iznosa članarine, članstvo se proširilo izvan početnih elitnih društvenih krugova, a udruženje je u Prvom svjetskom ratu za mornaricu kupilo i jednu podmornicu, te dva zrakoplova.

Još od 1905. udruženje je izdavalo časopis Zastava (Die Flagge), koji je izlazio kao mjesečnik do travnja 1919. Ubrzo nakon gašenja časopisa i samo je udruženje, tada s rekordnih 80 tisuća članova, prestalo postojati, sve kao posljedica nestanka Monarhije čije je interese promicalo.​ HPMS u posjedu je i nekoliko primjeraka časopisa Die Flagge.
