Na Šolti sam u jednoj uvali naletio na mnoštvo ovakvih puževa koji sliče na našeg volka, ali mi je jasno da to ipak nije, pa me interesira o kojoj vrsti puža je riječ?

Na slici je azijski volak, Rapana venosa, koji pripada obitelji grabežljivih morskih puževa Muricidae. Inače, to nije naš autohtoni jadranski, pa ni mediteranski puž jer spada u invazivne vrste i to takve da je stavljen u grupu 100 najgorih invazivnih vrsta Europe u kojoj je samo još jedan puž.

Naime, azijski volak je prvi put u Mediteranu zabilježen upravo u sjevernom Jadranu ispred Ravene, i to još davne 1973. godine. Nakon toga se nalazio najčešće u Tršćanskom zaljevu pa je logična pretpostavka da je u Jadran ušao preko brodova, bilo kroz balastne vode, bilo prilijepljen za brodsku oplatu, iako postoje teorije da je došao prilikom transporta jajašaca koja se koriste u marikulturi.

Iz Jadrana se proširio na Egejsko more, a nađen je i u Tirenskom moru.

Njegovo glavno područje obitavanja je zapadni Pacifik, posebice oko japanskog arhipelaga, odakle je na sličan način, kao i kod nas, došao u Atlantik, nakon čega se proširio i u Mediteran te Crno more, s čudnom opaskom da je u Crnom moru zabilježen tridesetak godina ranije nego u Mediteranu.

Azijski volak spada u poprilično velike puževe jer naraste do dužine od čak 18 cm, ali za Jadran su zasad nađeni samo primjerci do nekih 14 cm dužine.

Boja varira

Najlakše ga je prepoznati prema karakterističnom obilježju, i to tamnonarančastoj ili žućkastosmeđoj boji unutrašnjosti kućice, koja je jasno vidljiva na vašoj fotografiji. Ipak, kod manjih, juvenilnih primjeraka ne postoji narančasto ušće, pa se ti primjerci mogu krivo identificirati. Vanjska boja varira, i to od sive do crvenosmeđe boje.

Azijski volak

Zanimljivo da se bojom može donekle prilagoditi okolini, pa su primjerci vidljivi na pješčanom dnu obično svjetlije obojani od primjeraka iz stjenovitih staništa. Uglavnom se nalazi bliže obali, do petnaestak metara dubine.

Značajno je to što živi u morskoj, ali i u boćatoj vodi, a podnosi velike temperaturne oscilacije, kao i nedostatak kisika, zbog čega se lako prilagođava novoj okolini.

Također, u novoj okolini nema predatora koji se njime hrani jer mu je ljuštura neuobičajeno debela u odnosu na slične vrste, pa potencijalni grabežljivci obično biraju neki lakši plijen.

Kao što je već prethodno naznačeno, ovaj puž je grabežljivac. Odrasli primjerci se uglavnom hrane drugim puževima i školjkama, i to na način da im ne buše ljušturu već svojim organima ulaze unutar njih te započinju hranjenje.

Primjerice, u Crnom moru su na nekim područjima napravili pravi genocid kamenica, što se tamošnjem stanovništvu nimalo nije svidjelo s obzirom na komercijalnu vrijednost tih školjkaša.

Komercijalni značaj

Ipak, za razliku od svih negativnih činjenica koje smo iznijeli o ovoj vrsti, postoji i jedna vrlo pozitivna, a to je njezina gastronomska vrijednost. Azijski volak je, kao i slične vrste, jestivi puž koji obzirom na svoju veličinu može dobro obogatiti lokalnu kuhinju. Stoga je u nekim područjima Europe, gdje je postao relativno poznatiji, ovaj puž stekao već i komercijalni značaj.

Primjerice, u Mediteranu su Turska i Bugarska glavne zemlje u kojima se ovog puža lovi u tisućama tona, ali se izgleda standardno pretjeralo i s ovom vrstom, pa se dogodio prelov koji je u samo nekoliko godina smanjio godišnji ulov za čak pet puta.

Nadalje, ako se netko interesira za eventualne mogućnosti uzgoja ove vrste, biološko-ekološki podaci su vrlo pozitivni jer minimalna brzina rasta u prvoj godini ovog puža je oko 4 cm, dok se u nekim područjima to proteže i na 6 cm.

Ako vas baš zanima i cijena po kojoj se prodaje, možda je najbolje koristiti podatak s kineskog tržišta, gdje se azijski volak prodaje za 7 do 9 američkih dolara po kilu, što je s obzirom na posljednje povećanje tečaja dolara svakako činjenica koju se ne smije zanemariti.

Na Šolti sam u jednoj uvali naletio na mnoštvo ovakvih puževa koji sliče na našeg volka, ali mi je jasno da to ipak nije, pa me interesira o kojoj vrsti puža je riječ?

Špiro P., Stobreč

Na slici je azijski volak, Rapana venosa, koji pripada obitelji grabežljivih morskih puževa Muricidae. Inače, to nije naš autohtoni jadranski, pa ni mediteranski puž jer spada u invazivne vrste i to takve da je stavljen u grupu 100 najgorih invazivnih vrsta Europe u kojoj je samo još jedan puž.

Naime, azijski volak je prvi put u Mediteranu zabilježen upravo u sjevernom Jadranu ispred Ravene, i to još davne 1973. godine. Nakon toga se nalazio najčešće u Tršćanskom zaljevu pa je logična pretpostavka da je u Jadran ušao preko brodova, bilo kroz balastne vode, bilo prilijepljen za brodsku oplatu, iako postoje teorije da je došao prilikom transporta jajašaca koja se koriste u marikulturi.

Iz Jadrana se proširio na Egejsko more, a nađen je i u Tirenskom moru.

Njegovo glavno područje obitavanja je zapadni Pacifik, posebice oko japanskog arhipelaga, odakle je na sličan način, kao i kod nas, došao u Atlantik, nakon čega se proširio i u Mediteran te Crno more, s čudnom opaskom da je u Crnom moru zabilježen tridesetak godina ranije nego u Mediteranu.

Azijski volak spada u poprilično velike puževe jer naraste do dužine od čak 18 cm, ali za Jadran su zasad nađeni samo primjerci do nekih 14 cm dužine.

Boja varira

Najlakše ga je prepoznati prema karakterističnom obilježju, i to tamnonarančastoj ili žućkastosmeđoj boji unutrašnjosti kućice, koja je jasno vidljiva na vašoj fotografiji. Ipak, kod manjih, juvenilnih primjeraka ne postoji narančasto ušće, pa se ti primjerci mogu krivo identificirati. Vanjska boja varira, i to od sive do crvenosmeđe boje.

Zanimljivo da se bojom može donekle prilagoditi okolini, pa su primjerci vidljivi na pješčanom dnu obično svjetlije obojani od primjeraka iz stjenovitih staništa. Uglavnom se nalazi bliže obali, do petnaestak metara dubine.

Značajno je to što živi u morskoj, ali i u boćatoj vodi, a podnosi velike temperaturne oscilacije, kao i nedostatak kisika, zbog čega se lako prilagođava novoj okolini.

Također, u novoj okolini nema predatora koji se njime hrani jer mu je ljuštura neuobičajeno debela u odnosu na slične vrste, pa potencijalni grabežljivci obično biraju neki lakši plijen.

Kao što je već prethodno naznačeno, ovaj puž je grabežljivac. Odrasli primjerci se uglavnom hrane drugim puževima i školjkama, i to na način da im ne buše ljušturu već svojim organima ulaze unutar njih te započinju hranjenje.

Primjerice, u Crnom moru su na nekim područjima napravili pravi genocid kamenica, što se tamošnjem stanovništvu nimalo nije svidjelo s obzirom na komercijalnu vrijednost tih školjkaša.

Komercijalni značaj

Ipak, za razliku od svih negativnih činjenica koje smo iznijeli o ovoj vrsti, postoji i jedna vrlo pozitivna, a to je njezina gastronomska vrijednost. Azijski volak je, kao i slične vrste, jestivi puž koji obzirom na svoju veličinu može dobro obogatiti lokalnu kuhinju. Stoga je u nekim područjima Europe, gdje je postao relativno poznatiji, ovaj puž stekao već i komercijalni značaj.

Primjerice, u Mediteranu su Turska i Bugarska glavne zemlje u kojima se ovog puža lovi u tisućama tona, ali se izgleda standardno pretjeralo i s ovom vrstom, pa se dogodio prelov koji je u samo nekoliko godina smanjio godišnji ulov za čak pet puta.

Nadalje, ako se netko interesira za eventualne mogućnosti uzgoja ove vrste, biološko-ekološki podaci su vrlo pozitivni jer minimalna brzina rasta u prvoj godini ovog puža je oko 4 cm, dok se u nekim područjima to proteže i na 6 cm.

Ako vas baš zanima i cijena po kojoj se prodaje, možda je najbolje koristiti podatak s kineskog tržišta, gdje se azijski volak prodaje za 7 do 9 američkih dolara po kilu, što je s obzirom na posljednje povećanje tečaja dolara svakako činjenica koju se ne smije zanemariti.
