Instagram je priznao da nije uspio ukloniti račune koji potiču poremećaje prehrane iz aplikacije, nego je, u nekim slučajevima, čak i promovirao ove stranice tinejdžerima.

Do priznanja je došlo nakon što je osoblje senatora iz Connecticuta Richarda Blumenthala otvorilo lažni račun, koji su registrirali na 13-godišnju djevojčicu. Nakon što je pratilo nekoliko stranica o prehrani i poremećajima prehrane, algoritam stranice gotovo je odmah preporučio ekstremnije račune za dijetu.

U razgovoru za CNN, iz Instagrama su priznali da su takvi računi prekršili njihove smjernice te da ih je platforma trebala ukloniti. "Ne dopuštamo sadržaj koji promiče ili potiče poremećaje hranjenja i uklonili smo račune na koje smo upozoreni", rekao je glasnogovornik, nakon što je Blumenthalov ured poslao popis takvih stranica.

"Koristimo tehnologiju i izvješća iz naše zajednice za pronalaženje i uklanjanje ovog sadržaja što je brže moguće, a mi uvijek radimo na poboljšanju", nastavio je glasnogovornik. "Nastavit ćemo slijediti stručne savjete akademika i organizacija za mentalno zdravlje, poput Nacionalne udruge za poremećaje prehrane, kako bismo uspostavili ravnotežu između omogućavanja ljudima da podijele svoja iskustva s mentalnim zdravljem, štiteći ih od potencijalno štetnih sadržaja."

Instagram je ranije bio kritiziran zbog umjerenih napora, koji se, izgleda, provode strogo zbog golotinje, dok se krajnje desničarski, rasistički i sadržaji koji promoviraju mentalne poremećaje provlače kroz mrežu.

Fotografska aplikacija u vlasništvu Facebooka nije jedina koja ima takve propuste. Prošle je godine i TikTok naišao na dosta kontroverzi, nakon što se utvrdilo da je platforma za razmjenu videozapisa cenzurirala sadržaj Black Lives Matter, promovirala antisemitske slike, smanjivala vidljivost postova korisnika koje je smatrala "ružnima", siromašnima ili onesposobljenima, te promicala oglase za mršavljenje.

U rujnu 2020. TikTok je najavio da će zabraniti potonje, nakon što su korisnici izvijestili o porastu štetnih videozapisa na svojim feedovima. U razgovoru s Dazedom u to vrijeme, 22-godišnja Sacha*, koja pati od poremećaja prehrane i tjelesne dismorfije, rekla je: „Koristila sam TikTok za zabavu i smijeh, ali to se pretvorilo u još jedno mjesto za pokretanje štetnih sadržaja. Samo me potiče na destruktivno ponašanje. ” U prosincu je otkriveno da je takav sadržaj još uvijek prisutan na platformi, unatoč novim mjerama.

Facebook se također suočava s novim izazovima kada su po srijedi slične optužbe otkako se pojavila nova zviždačica koja optužuje vodstvo kompanije da zdravlje pojedinca i društva stavlja iza profita. Marka Zuckerberga tako uskoro očekuju i nova saslušanja u Kongresu, nadamo se ovoga puta s boljim konačnim rezultatima na online zajednicu.

Instagram je priznao da nije uspio ukloniti račune koji potiču poremećaje prehrane iz aplikacije, nego je, u nekim slučajevima, čak i promovirao ove stranice tinejdžerima.

Do priznanja je došlo nakon što je osoblje senatora iz Connecticuta Richarda Blumenthala otvorilo lažni račun, koji su registrirali na 13-godišnju djevojčicu. Nakon što je pratilo nekoliko stranica o prehrani i poremećajima prehrane, algoritam stranice gotovo je odmah preporučio ekstremnije račune za dijetu.

U razgovoru za CNN, iz Instagrama su priznali da su takvi računi prekršili njihove smjernice te da ih je platforma trebala ukloniti. "Ne dopuštamo sadržaj koji promiče ili potiče poremećaje hranjenja i uklonili smo račune na koje smo upozoreni", rekao je glasnogovornik, nakon što je Blumenthalov ured poslao popis takvih stranica.

"Koristimo tehnologiju i izvješća iz naše zajednice za pronalaženje i uklanjanje ovog sadržaja što je brže moguće, a mi uvijek radimo na poboljšanju", nastavio je glasnogovornik. "Nastavit ćemo slijediti stručne savjete akademika i organizacija za mentalno zdravlje, poput Nacionalne udruge za poremećaje prehrane, kako bismo uspostavili ravnotežu između omogućavanja ljudima da podijele svoja iskustva s mentalnim zdravljem, štiteći ih od potencijalno štetnih sadržaja."

Instagram je ranije bio kritiziran zbog umjerenih napora, koji se, izgleda, provode strogo zbog golotinje, dok se krajnje desničarski, rasistički i sadržaji koji promoviraju mentalne poremećaje provlače kroz mrežu.

Fotografska aplikacija u vlasništvu Facebooka nije jedina koja ima takve propuste. Prošle je godine i TikTok naišao na dosta kontroverzi, nakon što se utvrdilo da je platforma za razmjenu videozapisa cenzurirala sadržaj Black Lives Matter, promovirala antisemitske slike, smanjivala vidljivost postova korisnika koje je smatrala "ružnima", siromašnima ili onesposobljenima, te promicala oglase za mršavljenje.

U rujnu 2020. TikTok je najavio da će zabraniti potonje, nakon što su korisnici izvijestili o porastu štetnih videozapisa na svojim feedovima. U razgovoru s Dazedom u to vrijeme, 22-godišnja Sacha*, koja pati od poremećaja prehrane i tjelesne dismorfije, rekla je: „Koristila sam TikTok za zabavu i smijeh, ali to se pretvorilo u još jedno mjesto za pokretanje štetnih sadržaja. Samo me potiče na destruktivno ponašanje. ” U prosincu je otkriveno da je takav sadržaj još uvijek prisutan na platformi, unatoč novim mjerama.

Facebook se također suočava s novim izazovima kada su po srijedi slične optužbe otkako se pojavila nova zviždačica koja optužuje vodstvo kompanije da zdravlje pojedinca i društva stavlja iza profita. Marka Zuckerberga tako uskoro očekuju i nova saslušanja u Kongresu, nadamo se ovoga puta s boljim konačnim rezultatima na online zajednicu.
