O Sinn Feinu znamo praktički sve. Da je nastao kao politički ogranak IRA-e, Irske Republikanske Armije koja se više od stotinu godina bori za odcjepljenje Sjeverne Irske od Velike Britanije. I uspostavu jedinstvene irske države.

Znamo i da zastupaju ljevičarske ideje. Da su se vremenom ogradili od terorističkih akcija IRA-e. Da su vodeća snaga irskih republikanaca u britanskom parlamentu. Kojega ne priznaju, pa se u Westminsteru i ne pojavljuju. Znamo i da su se žustro protivili Brexitu. I da su nedavno najavili da će, nakon što Britanija iziđe iz Europske unije, 2025. organizirati referendum o ujedinjenju irskog otoka.

Ono, međutim, što nitko nije mogao predvidjeti jest da je Sinn Fein praktički preko noći postao najpopularnija stranka i u Republici Irskoj. I da imaju veliku šansu postati najjača irska politička snaga na parlamentarnim izborima koji se u toj zemlji održavaju ove subote.

Proboj Sinn Feina na prvo mjesto toliko je šokantan da dvije centrističke stranke koje čitavo stoljeće dominiraju politikom u Irskoj – umjereno konzervativa Fianna Fail i nešto liberalnija Fianna Gail – danima ne uspijevaju doći sebi od čuda.

Nekoliko je razloga za ovako dramatičan preokret.

Prvi je promjena lidera. Sinn Fein je 2018. godine izabrao Mary Lou McDonald, aktivisticu iz Dublina, za svoju predsjednicu. Nakon nekoliko desetljeća tijekom kojih je politikom stranke dominirao legendarni Garry Adams, on se naprosto potrošio. A Mcdonald je – u paru s još jednom ženom, svojom zamjenicom Michelle O'Neil koja dolazi iz Sjeverne Irske – spremna rasturiti konkurenciju.

U tome leži drugi razlog za ovako drastičan uspon Sinn Feina.

Mary McDonald dvije glavne stranke uspješno portretira kao braću blizance koji izgledaju isto, ponašaju se isto, i vode potpuno istu politiku. Onako kako to populisti čine mainstream strankama diljem Europe. Ljudi, poručuje ona, nisu budale. Oni vide da između Fianna Faila i Fianna Gaila zapravo nema razlike.

Treći razlog su čvrste lijeve ideje koje je Sinn Fein na velika vrata uveo u irsku politiku. Kada su tu stranku vezivali uz terorizam IRA-e, ona kod birača u Dublinu, Galwayu ili Athloneu nije mogla proći. Kada, međutim, govore o visokim najamninama, "masnim guskama" iz osiguravajućih društava koje gule građane, beskućnicima, kada sudjeluju u štrajku medicinskih sestara i kritiziraju duge liste čekanja u bolnicama, kao što čine danas, to je pravi politički bingo.

Sinn Fein je prošle godina na lokalnim izborima dobio samo 9,5 posto glasova. Na početku kampanje u istraživanjima je imao 15 posto potpore. Danas, tri dana prije izbora za irski parlament Dail, uživa podršku 25 posto birača. Fianna Fail ima 23, a Fianna Gail 20 posto.

Među mladim biračima – onima od 18 do 24 godine - ovaj raspon još je i veći. Sinn Fein ima 27 posto, dok druge dvije stranke ne prelaze 20 posto. Osobni rejting Mary McDonald je na 41 posto, ostala dvojica lidera su na po 30 posto. Sinn Fein vodi i u Dublinu, a najpopularnija je stranka i među biračima srednjih godina.

Do jučer televizijske kuće Sinn Fein uopće nisu pozivale na sučeljavanja. Danas je na njima Mary McDonald glavna zvijezda. I definitivno ima uzlazan trend.

O Sinn Feinu znamo praktički sve. Da je nastao kao politički ogranak IRA-e, Irske Republikanske Armije koja se više od stotinu godina bori za odcjepljenje Sjeverne Irske od Velike Britanije. I uspostavu jedinstvene irske države.

Znamo i da zastupaju ljevičarske ideje. Da su se vremenom ogradili od terorističkih akcija IRA-e. Da su vodeća snaga irskih republikanaca u britanskom parlamentu. Kojega ne priznaju, pa se u Westminsteru i ne pojavljuju. Znamo i da su se žustro protivili Brexitu. I da su nedavno najavili da će, nakon što Britanija iziđe iz Europske unije, 2025. organizirati referendum o ujedinjenju irskog otoka.

Ono, međutim, što nitko nije mogao predvidjeti jest da je Sinn Fein praktički preko noći postao najpopularnija stranka i u Republici Irskoj. I da imaju veliku šansu postati najjača irska politička snaga na parlamentarnim izborima koji se u toj zemlji održavaju ove subote.

Proboj Sinn Feina na prvo mjesto toliko je šokantan da dvije centrističke stranke koje čitavo stoljeće dominiraju politikom u Irskoj – umjereno konzervativa Fianna Fail i nešto liberalnija Fianna Gail – danima ne uspijevaju doći sebi od čuda.

Nekoliko je razloga za ovako dramatičan preokret.

Prvi je promjena lidera. Sinn Fein je 2018. godine izabrao Mary Lou McDonald, aktivisticu iz Dublina, za svoju predsjednicu. Nakon nekoliko desetljeća tijekom kojih je politikom stranke dominirao legendarni Garry Adams, on se naprosto potrošio. A Mcdonald je – u paru s još jednom ženom, svojom zamjenicom Michelle O'Neil koja dolazi iz Sjeverne Irske – spremna rasturiti konkurenciju.

U tome leži drugi razlog za ovako drastičan uspon Sinn Feina.

Mary McDonald dvije glavne stranke uspješno portretira kao braću blizance koji izgledaju isto, ponašaju se isto, i vode potpuno istu politiku. Onako kako to populisti čine mainstream strankama diljem Europe. Ljudi, poručuje ona, nisu budale. Oni vide da između Fianna Faila i Fianna Gaila zapravo nema razlike.

Treći razlog su čvrste lijeve ideje koje je Sinn Fein na velika vrata uveo u irsku politiku. Kada su tu stranku vezivali uz terorizam IRA-e, ona kod birača u Dublinu, Galwayu ili Athloneu nije mogla proći. Kada, međutim, govore o visokim najamninama, "masnim guskama" iz osiguravajućih društava koje gule građane, beskućnicima, kada sudjeluju u štrajku medicinskih sestara i kritiziraju duge liste čekanja u bolnicama, kao što čine danas, to je pravi politički bingo.

Sinn Fein je prošle godina na lokalnim izborima dobio samo 9,5 posto glasova. Na početku kampanje u istraživanjima je imao 15 posto potpore. Danas, tri dana prije izbora za irski parlament Dail, uživa podršku 25 posto birača. Fianna Fail ima 23, a Fianna Gail 20 posto.

Među mladim biračima – onima od 18 do 24 godine - ovaj raspon još je i veći. Sinn Fein ima 27 posto, dok druge dvije stranke ne prelaze 20 posto. Osobni rejting Mary McDonald je na 41 posto, ostala dvojica lidera su na po 30 posto. Sinn Fein vodi i u Dublinu, a najpopularnija je stranka i među biračima srednjih godina.

Do jučer televizijske kuće Sinn Fein uopće nisu pozivale na sučeljavanja. Danas je na njima Mary McDonald glavna zvijezda. I definitivno ima uzlazan trend.

O Sinn Feinu znamo praktički sve. Da je nastao kao politički ogranak IRA-e, Irske Republikanske Armije koja se više od stotinu godina bori za odcjepljenje Sjeverne Irske od Velike Britanije. I uspostavu jedinstvene irske države.

Znamo i da zastupaju ljevičarske ideje. Da su se vremenom ogradili od terorističkih akcija IRA-e. Da su vodeća snaga irskih republikanaca u britanskom parlamentu. Kojega ne priznaju, pa se u Westminsteru i ne pojavljuju. Znamo i da su se žustro protivili Brexitu. I da su nedavno najavili da će, nakon što Britanija iziđe iz Europske unije, 2025. organizirati referendum o ujedinjenju irskog otoka.

Ono, međutim, što nitko nije mogao predvidjeti jest da je Sinn Fein praktički preko noći postao najpopularnija stranka i u Republici Irskoj. I da imaju...
