Poveliki asteroid, dug oko jedan kilometar, u subotu 15. veljače opasno će se približiti našoj planeti, javlja NASA.

Procjene govore da je potencijalno katastrofalan, jer bi u slučaju udara stijena ove veličine mogla jednokratno poubijati milijune ljudi u široj regiji, te izazvati tragediju i na globalnoj razini.

Asteroid kodne oznake 2002 PZ39 putuje brzinom većom od 50 tisuća kilometara na sat. Prema Daily Expressu, Nacionalna uprava za zrakoplovstvo i svemir (NASA) objavila je da bi se u subotu u 11 sati i pet minuta trebao naći na točki najbližoj našoj planeti.

Procijenjeni gabariti svemirske stijene su 990 puta 440 metara, a to je veličina čiji udar standardno ostavlja znatne posljedice.

"Ako bi objekt veći od 25 metara a manji od jednog kilometra pogodio Zemlju, vjerojatno bi prouzročio samo lokalnu štetu na području udara. Svako veće nebesko tijelo, obujma od jednog do dva kilometra, moglo bi, međutim, imati i globalne efekte“, navodi NASA.

Izračuni govore da će gromada koja je ocijenjena potencijalno opasnom od Zemlje proći na udaljenosti od oko 5,77 milijuna kilometara. Iako na prvi pogled zvuči dovoljno daleko i prilično sigurno, eksperti za svemirske procese nisu skloni bespotrebnom dizanju panike i širenju lažnih uzbuna: riječ je o distanci koja nas itekako izlaže potencijalnoj opasnosti.

Asteroidi ili planetoidi su kamena ili metalna nebeska tijela promjera većeg od jedan metar, koji samostalno ili u skupini sličnih tijela obilaze oko Sunca. U usporedbi s planetima mnogo su manji i najčešće nepravilnog oblika. Nastali su od ostataka protoplanetarne tvari i najčešće kruže oko matične zvijezde vlastitom putanjom ili kao prirodni sateliti većih planeta. Neki od njih su vezani gravitacijskim silama uz planete, gdje plove u grupama koje orbitiraju u njihovim putanjama.

Do sada ih je otkriveno blizu 170.000, a oko 11.000 ih je dobilo službena imena, odnosno skraćenicu i redni broj. Kako im orbitalni putevi često presjecaju Zemlju, u prošlosti su se znali dogoditi česti bliski susreti i sučeljavanja, pa treba biti otvoren i za mogućnosti budućih sudara. NASA apelira na hitno ulaganje dodatnih napora za proučavanje veličina, struktura i putanja ovih objekata.

Nakon što će, nadajmo se, zaobići zemlju, Asteroid 2002 PZ39 nastavit će put Sunčevim sustavom i krenuti prema Veneri, kojoj bi se trebao približiti 14. lipnja 2034. godine. No, taj datum neće označiti i njegov trajni rastanak od Zemlje, jer se isti asteroid s Venere planira opet vratiti putanjom tik uz naš planet.

Potencijalna prijetnja od udara asteroida predstavljena je i u jedinstvenom izvješću Bijele kuće prije dvije godine, kao i u američkoj Nacionalnoj strategiji za pripremu na svemirske objekte u blizini Zemlje. Akcijskim planom toga dokumenta se navodi da bi predmeti dugački oko jedan kilometar "mogli prouzročiti štete širom svijeta".

Zemljotresi, tsunamiji i različite tektonske promjene mogli bi uslijediti kao sekundarni rezultati udara asteroida ove veličine. U izvješću Bijele kuće se podsjeća kako znanstvenici smatraju da je asteroid veličine oko 10 kilometara svojim fatalnim udarom prije 66 milijuna godina prouzročio, između ostaloga, i izumiranje dinosaura.

Poveliki asteroid, dug oko jedan kilometar, u subotu 15. veljače opasno će se približiti našoj planeti, javlja NASA.

Procjene govore da je potencijalno katastrofalan, jer bi u slučaju udara stijena ove veličine mogla jednokratno poubijati milijune ljudi u široj regiji, te izazvati tragediju i na globalnoj razini.

Asteroid kodne oznake 2002 PZ39 putuje brzinom većom od 50 tisuća kilometara na sat. Prema Daily Expressu, Nacionalna uprava za zrakoplovstvo i svemir (NASA) objavila je da bi se u subotu u 11 sati i pet minuta trebao naći na točki najbližoj našoj planeti.

Procijenjeni gabariti svemirske stijene su 990 puta 440 metara, a to je veličina čiji udar standardno ostavlja znatne posljedice.

"Ako bi objekt veći od 25 metara a manji od jednog kilometra pogodio Zemlju, vjerojatno bi prouzročio samo lokalnu štetu na području udara. Svako veće nebesko tijelo, obujma od jednog do dva kilometra, moglo bi, međutim, imati i globalne efekte“, navodi NASA.

Izračuni govore da će gromada koja je ocijenjena potencijalno opasnom od Zemlje proći na udaljenosti od oko 5,77 milijuna kilometara. Iako na prvi pogled zvuči dovoljno daleko i prilično sigurno, eksperti za svemirske procese nisu skloni bespotrebnom dizanju panike i širenju lažnih uzbuna: riječ je o distanci koja nas itekako izlaže potencijalnoj opasnosti.

Asteroidi ili planetoidi su kamena ili metalna nebeska tijela promjera većeg od jedan metar, koji samostalno ili u skupini sličnih tijela obilaze oko Sunca. U usporedbi s planetima mnogo su manji i najčešće nepravilnog oblika. Nastali su od ostataka protoplanetarne tvari i najčešće kruže oko matične zvijezde vlastitom putanjom ili kao prirodni sateliti većih planeta. Neki od njih su vezani gravitacijskim silama uz planete, gdje plove u grupama koje orbitiraju u njihovim putanjama.

Do sada ih je otkriveno blizu 170.000, a oko 11.000 ih je dobilo službena imena, odnosno skraćenicu i redni broj. Kako im orbitalni putevi često presjecaju Zemlju, u prošlosti su se znali dogoditi česti bliski susreti i sučeljavanja, pa treba biti otvoren i za mogućnosti budućih sudara. NASA apelira na hitno ulaganje dodatnih napora za proučavanje veličina, struktura i putanja ovih objekata.

Nakon što će, nadajmo se, zaobići zemlju, Asteroid 2002 PZ39 nastavit će put Sunčevim sustavom i krenuti prema Veneri, kojoj bi se trebao približiti 14. lipnja 2034. godine. No, taj datum neće označiti i njegov trajni rastanak od Zemlje, jer se isti asteroid s Venere planira opet vratiti putanjom tik uz naš planet.

Potencijalna prijetnja od udara asteroida predstavljena je i u jedinstvenom izvješću Bijele kuće prije dvije godine, kao i u američkoj Nacionalnoj strategiji za pripremu na svemirske objekte u blizini Zemlje. Akcijskim planom toga dokumenta se navodi da bi predmeti dugački oko jedan kilometar "mogli prouzročiti štete širom svijeta".

Zemljotresi, tsunamiji i različite tektonske promjene mogli bi uslijediti kao sekundarni rezultati udara asteroida ove veličine. U izvješću Bijele kuće se podsjeća kako znanstvenici smatraju da je asteroid veličine oko 10 kilometara svojim fatalnim udarom prije 66 milijuna godina prouzročio, između ostaloga, i izumiranje dinosaura.

Poveliki asteroid, dug oko jedan kilometar, u subotu 15. veljače opasno će se približiti našoj planeti, javlja NASA.

Procjene govore da je potencijalno katastrofalan, jer bi u slučaju udara stijena ove veličine mogla jednokratno poubijati milijune ljudi u široj regiji, te izazvati tragediju i na globalnoj razini.

Asteroid kodne oznake 2002 PZ39 putuje brzinom većom od 50 tisuća kilometara na sat. Prema Daily Expressu, Nacionalna uprava za zrakoplovstvo i svemir (NASA) objavila je da bi se u subotu u 11 sati i pet minuta trebao naći na točki najbližoj našoj planeti.

Procijenjeni gabariti svemirske stijene su 990 puta 440 metara, a to je veličina čiji udar standardno ostavlja znatne posljedice.
