Znanstvenici upozoravaju da bi se bolest koja jelene pretvara u "zombije" mogla proširiti na ljude, nakon naglog porasta broja slučajeva diljem Sjedinjenih Američkih Država, prenosi ugledni britanski The Telegraph.
Spongiformna encefalopatija ili "chronic wasting disease" pogađa mozak zaražene životinje i uzrokuje simptome poput bezvoljnosti, nervoze, pojačanog slinjenja i škrgutanja zubima s "praznim pogledom" poput zombija.
Životinje koje su zaražene, također teže hodaju, gube na težini i ne boje se ljudskog kontakta, piše Jutarnji list.

Prema informacijama Geološkog instituta SAD-a, bolest se zasad proširila u 32 američke države i četiri kanadske provincije. U Kansasu, Wisconsinu i Nebraski, više od 40 okruga je prijavilo slučajeve zaraze. Pronađena je i u otprilike 800 jelena diljem Wyominga.
- To je bolest koja je neizbježno smrtonosna, neizlječiva i vrlo zarazna. Glavni problem je što nemamo učinkovit i jednostavan način da ju iskorijenimo, kod životinja koje inficira ili u okolišu koji kontaminira - upozorio je Cory Anderson, suvoditelj CWD programa na Sveučilištu Minnesota.
Opasna konzumacija kontaminiranoga mesa
Michael Osterholm, američki epidemiolog koji je upozoravao na rizike kravljeg ludila za ljude, vjeruje da bi širenje ove bolesti diljem SAD-a mogla postati "katastrofa" s potencijalom širenja izvan životinja.
Tijekom 2019. godine također je upozoravao da laboratorijska istraživanja pokazuju vjerojatnost prelaska na ljude ako se konzumira kontaminirano meso.

Bolest se uspoređuje s kravljim ludilom jer se također širi pomoću patogenih proteina zvanih prioni i uzrokuje niz simptoma koji nalikuju demenciji.
- Da Stephen King može napisati roman o zaraznim bolestima, pisao bi o prionima na ovaj način - rekao je Osterholm.
Prionske bolesti pripadaju obitelji rijetkih bolesti mozga koje pogađaju ljude i životinje, uključujući kravlje ludilo kod goveda i varijantu Creutzfeldt-Jakobove bolesti kod ljudi.
Američki centar za kontrolu i prevenciju bolesti izrazio je zabrinutost da spongiformna encefalopatija također može predstavljati rizik za ljude, ali zasad nisu zabilježili nijedan slučaj prijenosa infekcije, piše Jutarnji list.

Spongiformna encefalopatija ili "chronic wasting disease" pogađa mozak zaražene životinje i uzrokuje simptome poput bezvoljnosti, nervoze, pojačanog slinjenja i škrgutanja zubima s "praznim pogledom" poput zombija.
Životinje koje su zaražene, također teže hodaju, gube na težini i ne boje se ljudskog kontakta, piše Jutarnji list.

Prema informacijama Geološkog instituta SAD-a, bolest se zasad proširila u 32 američke države i četiri kanadske provincije. U Kansasu, Wisconsinu i Nebraski, više od 40 okruga je prijavilo slučajeve zaraze. Pronađena je i u otprilike 800 jelena diljem Wyominga.
- To je bolest koja je neizbježno smrtonosna, neizlječiva i vrlo zarazna. Glavni problem je što nemamo učinkovit i jednostavan način da ju iskorijenimo, kod životinja koje inficira ili u okolišu koji kontaminira - upozorio je Cory Anderson, suvoditelj CWD programa na Sveučilištu Minnesota.
Opasna konzumacija kontaminiranoga mesa
Michael Osterholm, američki epidemiolog koji je upozoravao na rizike kravljeg ludila za ljude, vjeruje da bi širenje ove bolesti diljem SAD-a mogla postati "katastrofa" s potencijalom širenja izvan životinja.
Tijekom 2019. godine također je upozoravao da laboratorijska istraživanja pokazuju vjerojatnost prelaska na ljude ako se konzumira kontaminirano meso.
- Moguće je da će broj slučajeva kod ljudi biti znatan i neće se raditi o izoliranim događajima - dodao je.

- Da Stephen King može napisati roman o zaraznim bolestima, pisao bi o prionima na ovaj način - rekao je Osterholm.
Prionske bolesti pripadaju obitelji rijetkih bolesti mozga koje pogađaju ljude i životinje, uključujući kravlje ludilo kod goveda i varijantu Creutzfeldt-Jakobove bolesti kod ljudi.
Američki centar za kontrolu i prevenciju bolesti izrazio je zabrinutost da spongiformna encefalopatija također može predstavljati rizik za ljude, ali zasad nisu zabilježili nijedan slučaj prijenosa infekcije, piše Jutarnji list.
