Nakon više od 20 godina iz zatvora je puštena Ana Montes, jedna od najpoznatijih špijunki hladnog rata koje je SAD uhvatio.

Ta 65-godišnjakinja gotovo je dva desetljeća špijunirala za kubanske vlasti dok je radila kao analitičarka u američkoj Obrambenoj obavještajnoj agenciji, piše BBC.

Nakon što je uhićena 2001. godine, dužnosnici su rekli da je gotovo u potpunosti razotkrila američke obavještajne operacije na otoku, dok je jedan kazao da je bila među „špijunima koji su napravili najviše štete” a koje je SAD uhvatio.

Šefica protuobavještajne službe, tijekom predsjedništva Georgea W. Busha, Michelle Van Cleave rekla je 2012. Kongresu da je Montes „kompromitirala sve, gotovo sve, što smo znali o Kubi i kako smo djelovali na Kubi”.

„Dakle, Kubanci su bili dobro upoznati sa svime što smo znali o njima i mogli su to iskoristiti u svoju korist. Osim toga, ona je u razgovorima s kolegama mogla utjecati na procjene o Kubi, a imala je mogućnost i proslijediti informacije do kojih je došla drugim silama”, kazala je Cleave.

Nakon uhićenja, Montes je optužena da je otkrila identitete četvorice američkih špijuna i ogromne količine povjerljivog materijala. Osuđena je na 25 godina zatvora, a sudac koji je izricao presudu optužio ju je da je dovela u opasnost „cijelu naciju”.

Međutim, za razliku od drugih špijuna visokog profila uhvaćenih tijekom hladnog rata, Montes je bila motivirana ideologijom, a ne osobnim probitkom. Pristala je raditi za kubansku obavještajnu službu djelomično zato što se protivila aktivnostima Reaganove administracije u Latinskoj Americi.

Glavni inspektor ministarstva obrane u izvješću je naveo da vjeruje da ju je naljutila američka potpora nikaragvanskoj desničarskoj pobunjeničkoj skupini Contras koja je osumnjičena za ratne i druge zločine u zemlji, piše BBC.

Prvo joj se 1984. obratio kolega sa Sveučilišta Johns Hopkins nakon što je izrazila neslaganje s američkim postupcima u Nikaragvi, a kasnije je predstavljena kubanskom obavještajnom agentu te je na večeri u New Yorku „bez oklijevanja pristala raditi preko Kubanaca kako bi ‘pomogla‘ Nikaragvi”, stoji u izvješću glavnog inspektora.

Godinu nakon je otputovala u Havanu na obuku te se potom pridružila Obrambenoj obavještajnoj agenciji gdje će s vremenom postati viši analitičar.

Gotovo se 20 godina, svakih nekoliko tjedana, sastajala s kubanskim rukovoditeljima u restoranima u Washingtonu te uz to slala šifrirane poruke sa strogo povjerljivim podacima putem ‘pagera‘ odnosno malih bežičnih telekomunikacijskih prijamnika.

Na kraju je uhićena u rujnu 2001. nakon što su američkih obavještajci dobili dojavu da se čini da je jedan vladin zaposlenik ujedno i kubanski špijun. Jedan od agenata FBI-a rekao je da je izgledala stoički prilikom uhićenja, piše BBC.

Montes će, po izlasku iz zatvora, biti pod nadzorom pet godina nakon puštanja na slobodu te će se nadzirati njezino korištenje interneta. Također će joj biti zabranjeno raditi za vladu ili kontaktirati strane agente bez dozvole.

No, jedan od agenata FBI-a Pete Lapp je rekao da misli da je malo vjerojatno da će ona pokušati ponovno uspostaviti kontakt s kubanskim agentima.

„Taj dio njezinog života je gotov. Učinila je ono što je učinila za njih. Ne mogu zamisliti da riskira svoju slobodu”, kazao je Lapp.

Nakon više od 20 godina iz zatvora je puštena Ana Montes, jedna od najpoznatijih špijunki hladnog rata koje je SAD uhvatio.

Ta 65-godišnjakinja gotovo je dva desetljeća špijunirala za kubanske vlasti dok je radila kao analitičarka u američkoj Obrambenoj obavještajnoj agenciji, piše BBC.

Nakon što je uhićena 2001. godine, dužnosnici su rekli da je gotovo u potpunosti razotkrila američke obavještajne operacije na otoku, dok je jedan kazao da je bila među „špijunima koji su napravili najviše štete” a koje je SAD uhvatio.

Šefica protuobavještajne službe, tijekom predsjedništva Georgea W. Busha, Michelle Van Cleave rekla je 2012. Kongresu da je Montes „kompromitirala sve, gotovo sve, što smo znali o Kubi i kako smo djelovali na Kubi”.

„Dakle, Kubanci su bili dobro upoznati sa svime što smo znali o njima i mogli su to iskoristiti u svoju korist. Osim toga, ona je u razgovorima s kolegama mogla utjecati na procjene o Kubi, a imala je mogućnost i proslijediti informacije do kojih je došla drugim silama”, kazala je Cleave.

Nakon uhićenja, Montes je optužena da je otkrila identitete četvorice američkih špijuna i ogromne količine povjerljivog materijala. Osuđena je na 25 godina zatvora, a sudac koji je izricao presudu optužio ju je da je dovela u opasnost „cijelu naciju”.

Međutim, za razliku od drugih špijuna visokog profila uhvaćenih tijekom hladnog rata, Montes je bila motivirana ideologijom, a ne osobnim probitkom. Pristala je raditi za kubansku obavještajnu službu djelomično zato što se protivila aktivnostima Reaganove administracije u Latinskoj Americi.

Glavni inspektor ministarstva obrane u izvješću je naveo da vjeruje da ju je naljutila američka potpora nikaragvanskoj desničarskoj pobunjeničkoj skupini Contras koja je osumnjičena za ratne i druge zločine u zemlji, piše BBC.

Prvo joj se 1984. obratio kolega sa Sveučilišta Johns Hopkins nakon što je izrazila neslaganje s američkim postupcima u Nikaragvi, a kasnije je predstavljena kubanskom obavještajnom agentu te je na večeri u New Yorku „bez oklijevanja pristala raditi preko Kubanaca kako bi ‘pomogla‘ Nikaragvi”, stoji u izvješću glavnog inspektora.

Godinu nakon je otputovala u Havanu na obuku te se potom pridružila Obrambenoj obavještajnoj agenciji gdje će s vremenom postati viši analitičar.

Gotovo se 20 godina, svakih nekoliko tjedana, sastajala s kubanskim rukovoditeljima u restoranima u Washingtonu te uz to slala šifrirane poruke sa strogo povjerljivim podacima putem ‘pagera‘ odnosno malih bežičnih telekomunikacijskih prijamnika.

Na kraju je uhićena u rujnu 2001. nakon što su američkih obavještajci dobili dojavu da se čini da je jedan vladin zaposlenik ujedno i kubanski špijun. Jedan od agenata FBI-a rekao je da je izgledala stoički prilikom uhićenja, piše BBC.

Montes će, po izlasku iz zatvora, biti pod nadzorom pet godina nakon puštanja na slobodu te će se nadzirati njezino korištenje interneta. Također će joj biti zabranjeno raditi za vladu ili kontaktirati strane agente bez dozvole.

No, jedan od agenata FBI-a Pete Lapp je rekao da misli da je malo vjerojatno da će ona pokušati ponovno uspostaviti kontakt s kubanskim agentima.

„Taj dio njezinog života je gotov. Učinila je ono što je učinila za njih. Ne mogu zamisliti da riskira svoju slobodu”, kazao je Lapp.

Nakon više od 20 godina iz zatvora je puštena Ana Montes, jedna od najpoznatijih špijunki hladnog rata koje je SAD uhvatio.

Ta 65-godišnjakinja gotovo je dva desetljeća špijunirala za kubanske vlasti dok je radila kao analitičarka u američkoj Obrambenoj obavještajnoj agenciji, piše BBC.

Nakon što je uhićena 2001. godine, dužnosnici su rekli da je gotovo u potpunosti razotkrila američke obavještajne operacije na otoku, dok je jedan kazao da je bila među „špijunima koji su napravili najviše štete” a koje je SAD uhvatio.

Šefica protuobavještajne službe, tijekom predsjedništva Georgea W. Busha, Michelle Van Cleave rekla je 2012. Kongresu da je Montes „kompromitirala sve, gotovo sve, što smo znali o Kubi i kako smo djelovali na Kubi”.
