Poznati američki demokrat i borac za prava radnika Bernie Sanders za Guardian je napisao što demokrati i Amerika moraju napraviti da spriječe ​ ponovni Trumpov​​ dolazak​ na vlast.

Rezultati izbora su pokazali da je gotovo 80 milijuna Amerikanaca podržalo Joea Bidena. Uz tako veliki broj glasova protiv autoritarne bigoterije Donalda Trumpa, svijet napokon može odahnuti.

Ali izborni rezultati daju povoda i za brigu. Trump je osvojio 11 milijuna glasova više nego 2016. godine, prije svega zahvaljujući podršci koju je dobio u nekim od najugroženijih zajednica – onih u kojima su stope nezaposlenosti i siromaštva visoke, a zdravstvena zaštita i njega djece neadekvatni.

Vjerojatno je najveća predsjednikova laž tvrdnja da su on i njegova administracija zaštitnici radničke klase.

Istina je da je Trump u svoj kabinet doveo više milijardera nego bilo koji drugi predsjednik prije njega; u Državni savjet za radne odnose (NLRB) postavio je najveće neprijatelje radničke klase; davao je velike porezne olakšice bogatima i velikim korporacijama, dok se istovremeno zalagao za ukidanje sredstava za programe pomoći za obrazovanje, stanovanje i hranu. Pokušao je ukinuti zdravstvenu zaštitu za 32 milijuna Amerikanaca i tražio da se iz budžeta izbace deseci milijardi dolara za Medicare, Medicaid i socijalnu zaštitu.

Usprkos tome, jedan segment radničke klase u našoj zemlji vjeruje da je Donald Trump na njihovoj strani.

U doba kada milijuni Amerikanaca strepe od gubitka posla, ili su ga već izgubili zbog nepoštenih trgovinskih ugovora, ili rade za plaće čiji se realni iznosi nisu povećali već 47 godina, mnogi su ga doživjeli kao oštrog momka, "borca" spremnog ući u sukobe. I zaista, on je svakog dana u svađi i sukobu s nekim.

Proglasivši se za neprijatelja "močvare", napadao je ne samo demokrate, nego i republikance koji nisu bili 100 posto uz njega, uključujući i ljude iz vlastite administracije koje je proglašavao za agente "duboke države". Sukobljavao se s liderima zemalja koje su naši stari saveznici, kao i s američkim guvernerima, gradonačelnicima i nezavisnim sucima. Ljude iz medija je proglašavao "narodnim neprijateljima", bez skrupula je napadao zajednicu migranata, istaknute žene, pripadnike afroameričke zajednice, gay populaciju, muslimane i demonstrante. Koristio je rasizam, ksenofobiju i paranoju da uvjeri znatne dijelove američke populacije da se brine o njihovim interesima, iako ništa ne bi moglo biti dalje od istine. Donald Trump je od prvog dana služio samo sebi i vlastitim interesima.

Joe Biden će položiti zakletvu 20. siječnja. Nancy Pelosi će predsjedavati u Predstavničkom domu. Još se ne zna koja stranka će kontrolirati Senat. O tome će odlučiti izbori u Georgiji.

Ali jedna stvar je jasna. Ako Demokratska stranka želi izbjeći gubitak milijuna glasova na sljedećim izborima, mora se odmah dovesti u red i učiniti nešto za radničke porodice, koje prolaze razdoblje najvećeg ekonomskog beznađa poslije Velike depresije. Demokrati moraju riječima i dijelima pokazati da su lažne tvrdnje republikanaca i da su oni zaštitnici radnika.

Da bi to uradili, demokrati moraju prikupiti hrabrost i ući u sukob s moćnim interesima koji već desetljećima vode rat protiv radničke klase ove zemlje. Mislim na Wall Street, na farmaceutsku industriju, na industriju zdravstvene zaštite, na naftne kompanije, vojno-industrijski kompleks i mnoge profitabilne korporacije koje izrabljuju svoje zaposlenike.

Ako Demokratska stranka ne pokaže da je sposobna suprotstaviti se tim moćnim institucijama i povesti bitku za interese radničkih obitelji ove zemlje – crnih, bijelih, hispanoameričkih, onih Amerikanaca azijskog podrijetla i američkih Indijanaca – ovim mandatom će samo pripremiti teren za pobjedu novog autoritarnog desničara 2024. godine – nekoga tko će biti gori od Trumpa.

Joe Biden se kandidirao na političkom programu koji ide u prilog radnicima. Sada se moramo izboriti da se taj program provede u djelo i oštro se suprotstaviti svakome tko mu pokuša stati na put.

"Na čijoj si strani?" poznata je pjesma Florence Reece, supruge jednog od organizatora štrajka rudara u okrugu Harlan u Kentuckyju 1931. godine. Demokrati apsolutno moraju pokazati na čijoj su strani.

Jedna strana je za otvaranje milijuna dobro plaćenih radnih mjesta kroz programe za zaustavljanje klimatskih promjena i obnovu infrastrukture. Druga nije.

Jedna strana je za najširu zdravstvenu zaštitu. Druga nije.

Jedna strana je za smanjivanje cijena lijekova. Druga nije.

Jedna strana je za plaćena odsustva zbog bolovanja i obiteljskih obveza. Druga nije.

Jedna strana je za otvaranje predškolskih ustanove za svu trogodišnju i četverogodišnju djecu u Americi. Druga nije.

Jedna strana je za proširenu socijalnu zaštitu. Druga nije.

Jedna strana je za besplatne fakultete na državnim sveučilištima za djecu iz radničkih obitelji. Druga nije.

Jedna strana je za ukidanje nefunkcionalnog i rasističkog krivičnog sustava i investiranje u obrazovanje i zapošljavanje mladih ljudi. Druga nije.

Jedna strana je za reformu koja će imigracijski sustav učiniti pravičnim i humanim. Druga nije.

Zadatak demokrata u prvih 100 dana Bidenove administracije jest da jasno pokažu na čijoj su strani i tko je na njihovoj strani. Obnova zemlje nije samo dobra javna politika. To je jedini put do pobjede na idućim izborima.

Poznati američki demokrat i borac za prava radnika Bernie Sanders za Guardian je napisao što demokrati i Amerika moraju napraviti da spriječe ​ ponovni Trumpov​​ dolazak​ na vlast.

Rezultati izbora su pokazali da je gotovo 80 milijuna Amerikanaca podržalo Joea Bidena. Uz tako veliki broj glasova protiv autoritarne bigoterije Donalda Trumpa, svijet napokon može odahnuti.

Ali izborni rezultati daju povoda i za brigu. Trump je osvojio 11 milijuna glasova više nego 2016. godine, prije svega zahvaljujući podršci koju je dobio u nekim od najugroženijih zajednica – onih u kojima su stope nezaposlenosti i siromaštva visoke, a zdravstvena zaštita i njega djece neadekvatni.

Vjerojatno je najveća predsjednikova laž tvrdnja da su on i njegova administracija zaštitnici radničke klase.

Istina je da je Trump u svoj kabinet doveo više milijardera nego bilo koji drugi predsjednik prije njega; u Državni savjet za radne odnose (NLRB) postavio je najveće neprijatelje radničke klase; davao je velike porezne olakšice bogatima i velikim korporacijama, dok se istovremeno zalagao za ukidanje sredstava za programe pomoći za obrazovanje, stanovanje i hranu. Pokušao je ukinuti zdravstvenu zaštitu za 32 milijuna Amerikanaca i tražio da se iz budžeta izbace deseci milijardi dolara za Medicare, Medicaid i socijalnu zaštitu.

Usprkos tome, jedan segment radničke klase u našoj zemlji vjeruje da je Donald Trump na njihovoj strani.

U doba kada milijuni Amerikanaca strepe od gubitka posla, ili su ga već izgubili zbog nepoštenih trgovinskih ugovora, ili rade za plaće čiji se realni iznosi nisu povećali već 47 godina, mnogi su ga doživjeli kao oštrog momka, "borca" spremnog ući u sukobe. I zaista, on je svakog dana u svađi i sukobu s nekim.

Proglasivši se za neprijatelja "močvare", napadao je ne samo demokrate, nego i republikance koji nisu bili 100 posto uz njega, uključujući i ljude iz vlastite administracije koje je proglašavao za agente "duboke države". Sukobljavao se s liderima zemalja koje su naši stari saveznici, kao i s američkim guvernerima, gradonačelnicima i nezavisnim sucima. Ljude iz medija je proglašavao "narodnim neprijateljima", bez skrupula je napadao zajednicu migranata, istaknute žene, pripadnike afroameričke zajednice, gay populaciju, muslimane i demonstrante. Koristio je rasizam, ksenofobiju i paranoju da uvjeri znatne dijelove američke populacije da se brine o njihovim interesima, iako ništa ne bi moglo biti dalje od istine. Donald Trump je od prvog dana služio samo sebi i vlastitim interesima.

Joe Biden će položiti zakletvu 20. siječnja. Nancy Pelosi će predsjedavati u Predstavničkom domu. Još se ne zna koja stranka će kontrolirati Senat. O tome će odlučiti izbori u Georgiji.

Ali jedna stvar je jasna. Ako Demokratska stranka želi izbjeći gubitak milijuna glasova na sljedećim izborima, mora se odmah dovesti u red i učiniti nešto za radničke porodice, koje prolaze razdoblje najvećeg ekonomskog beznađa poslije Velike depresije. Demokrati moraju riječima i dijelima pokazati da su lažne tvrdnje republikanaca i da su oni zaštitnici radnika.

Da bi to uradili, demokrati moraju prikupiti hrabrost i ući u sukob s moćnim interesima koji već desetljećima vode rat protiv radničke klase ove zemlje. Mislim na Wall Street, na farmaceutsku industriju, na industriju zdravstvene zaštite, na naftne kompanije, vojno-industrijski kompleks i mnoge profitabilne korporacije koje izrabljuju svoje zaposlenike.

Ako Demokratska stranka ne pokaže da je sposobna suprotstaviti se tim moćnim institucijama i povesti bitku za interese radničkih obitelji ove zemlje – crnih, bijelih, hispanoameričkih, onih Amerikanaca azijskog podrijetla i američkih Indijanaca – ovim mandatom će samo pripremiti teren za pobjedu novog autoritarnog desničara 2024. godine – nekoga tko će biti gori od Trumpa.

Joe Biden se kandidirao na političkom programu koji ide u prilog radnicima. Sada se moramo izboriti da se taj program provede u djelo i oštro se suprotstaviti svakome tko mu pokuša stati na put.

"Na čijoj si strani?" poznata je pjesma Florence Reece, supruge jednog od organizatora štrajka rudara u okrugu Harlan u Kentuckyju 1931. godine. Demokrati apsolutno moraju pokazati na čijoj su strani.

Jedna strana je za ukidanje nadnica od kojih se ne može živjeti i podizanje minimalne cijene rada na 15 dolara na sat. Druga strana nije.

Jedna strana je za jačanje sindikata. Druga nije.

Jedna strana je za otvaranje milijuna dobro plaćenih radnih mjesta kroz programe za zaustavljanje klimatskih promjena i obnovu infrastrukture. Druga nije.

Jedna strana je za najširu zdravstvenu zaštitu. Druga nije.

Jedna strana je za smanjivanje cijena lijekova. Druga nije.

Jedna strana je za plaćena odsustva zbog bolovanja i obiteljskih obveza. Druga nije.

Jedna strana je za otvaranje predškolskih ustanove za svu trogodišnju i četverogodišnju djecu u Americi. Druga nije.

Jedna strana je za proširenu socijalnu zaštitu. Druga nije.

Jedna strana je za besplatne fakultete na državnim sveučilištima za djecu iz radničkih obitelji. Druga nije.

Jedna strana je za ukidanje nefunkcionalnog i rasističkog krivičnog sustava i investiranje u obrazovanje i zapošljavanje mladih ljudi. Druga nije.

Jedna strana je za reformu koja će imigracijski sustav učiniti pravičnim i humanim. Druga nije.

Zadatak demokrata u prvih 100 dana Bidenove administracije jest da jasno pokažu na čijoj su strani i tko je na njihovoj strani. Obnova zemlje nije samo dobra javna politika. To je jedini put do pobjede na idućim izborima.
