Ovi nametnici mogu ubosti ljude, no vrlo je rijetko da ćete nekog "uloviti" izravno od svog ljubimca. Vjerojatnije je da ćete ga pronaći na sebi nakon šetnje kroz šikaru ili visoku travu.

Krpelji nisu izbirljivi i uhvatit će se za bilo koje stvorenje u prolazu, bilo da je riječ o jelenu, ježu, psu, lisici ili čovjeku.
Zatim zavuku glave pod kožu žrtve. U ovom trenutku mogu biti mali poput ušice igle i obično svijetlosive boje.

Tamo se nastanjuju, hrane se krvlju tri-četiri dana, postupno nabubre od veličine koštice jabuke sve do veličine graška. Zatim se odvoje natrag u travu i treba im nekoliko mjeseci da probave svoj obrok prije nego što se ponovno hrane.

Krpelja je lako zamijeniti za bradavicu ili malu kvržicu na koži ljubimca. Ne pokušavajte ih povući, jer će gotovo sigurno glava ostati pod kožom, što izaziva reakciju na strano tijelo. Za uklanjanje krpelja postoje specijalizirane kuke, moguće je koristiti i pincetu, no uvijek je preporučljivo zatražiti savjet ili pomoć veterinara.
Kako biste bili sigurni da se radi o krpelju, nježno podignite zaobljeni kraj "grude" koju ćete kod ovog kukca primijetiti nakon što se napije krvi. Kad ga podignete, vidjet ćete sićušne crne udove kako mašu u zraku.

Dvije su vrste problema koje krpelji uzrokuju našim ljubimcima.
Prvo, ostavljaju neugodnu vidljivu reakciju na koži nakon što su uklonjene. To može trajati nekoliko mjeseci, ali uzrokuje vrlo malo nevolja.

Puno veći problem nastupa ako je krpelj zaražen određenim bolestima koje može prenijeti na svog domaćina, poput teške anemije, umora, simptoma sličnih gripi, hromosti, pa čak i problema sa zglobovima i kod ljudi i kod pasa. Lajmska bolest, primjerice, i kod ljudi i kod pasa ona može uzrokovati dugotrajno oboljenje, sa simptomima koji uključuju groznicu, bolove u zglobovima i umor. Na nekim mjestima, što je bitno znati ako putujete u inozemstvo, prijete i neki drugi uzročnici, uključujući parazite babesije koji mogu uzrokovati smrtonosnu anemiju. U Australiji, primjerice, postoje krpelji koji ispuštaju toksine koji uzrokuju paralizu kod pasa i mačaka.
Anaplazmoza, erlihioza i borelioza, bolesti zabilježene u Hrvatskoj, također su vrlo opasne, ali vlasnicima obično ostavljaju vremena da primijete da nešto nije u redu i brzo reagiraju. Kod nas je vjerojatno najpoznatija piroplazmoza, koja za krznene ljubimce može biti smrtonosna.

Simptomi, koji se pojavljuju unutar tjedan dana od ugriza zaraženog nametnika, uključuju visoku temperaturu, slabost i malaksalost životinje, povraćanje, proljev, krvavo mokrenje, krv u stolici. Ponekad je jedini simptom to što životinja postaje osjetno mirnija, usporena. Ponekad ima tek smanjen apetit i eventualno povrati. S obzirom na to da cijeli niz različitih simptoma, ponekad naizgled bezazlenih, može ukazivati na ovu smrtonosnu bolest, važno je pomno pratiti stanje ljubimca i redovito pregledavati njegovu kožu. Ako se navrijeme otkrije, ova je bolest izlječiva.

Ovi nametnici mogu ubosti ljude, no vrlo je rijetko da ćete nekog "uloviti" izravno od svog ljubimca. Vjerojatnije je da ćete ga pronaći na sebi nakon šetnje kroz šikaru ili visoku travu.

Krpelji nisu izbirljivi i uhvatit će se za bilo koje stvorenje u prolazu, bilo da je riječ o jelenu, ježu, psu, lisici ili čovjeku.
Zatim zavuku glave pod kožu žrtve. U ovom trenutku mogu biti mali poput ušice igle i obično svijetlosive boje.

Tamo se nastanjuju, hrane se krvlju tri-četiri dana, postupno nabubre od veličine koštice jabuke sve do veličine graška. Zatim se odvoje natrag u travu i treba im nekoliko mjeseci da probave svoj obrok prije nego što se ponovno hrane.

Krpelja je lako zamijeniti za bradavicu ili malu kvržicu na koži ljubimca. Ne pokušavajte ih povući, jer će gotovo sigurno glava ostati pod kožom, što izaziva reakciju na strano tijelo. Za uklanjanje krpelja postoje specijalizirane kuke, moguće je koristiti i pincetu, no uvijek je preporučljivo zatražiti savjet ili pomoć veterinara.
Kako biste bili sigurni da se radi o krpelju, nježno podignite zaobljeni kraj "grude" koju ćete kod ovog kukca primijetiti nakon što se napije krvi. Kad ga podignete, vidjet ćete sićušne crne udove kako mašu u zraku.

Dvije su vrste problema koje krpelji uzrokuju našim ljubimcima.
Prvo, ostavljaju neugodnu vidljivu reakciju na koži nakon što su uklonjene. To može trajati nekoliko mjeseci, ali uzrokuje vrlo malo nevolja.

Puno veći problem nastupa ako je krpelj zaražen određenim bolestima koje može prenijeti na svog domaćina, poput teške anemije, umora, simptoma sličnih gripi, hromosti, pa čak i problema sa zglobovima i kod ljudi i kod pasa. Lajmska bolest, primjerice, i kod ljudi i kod pasa ona može uzrokovati dugotrajno oboljenje, sa simptomima koji uključuju groznicu, bolove u zglobovima i umor. Na nekim mjestima, što je bitno znati ako putujete u inozemstvo, prijete i neki drugi uzročnici, uključujući parazite babesije koji mogu uzrokovati smrtonosnu anemiju. U Australiji, primjerice, postoje krpelji koji ispuštaju toksine koji uzrokuju paralizu kod pasa i mačaka.
Anaplazmoza, erlihioza i borelioza, bolesti zabilježene u Hrvatskoj, također su vrlo opasne, ali vlasnicima obično ostavljaju vremena da primijete da nešto nije u redu i brzo reagiraju. Kod nas je vjerojatno najpoznatija piroplazmoza, koja za krznene ljubimce može biti smrtonosna.

Simptomi, koji se pojavljuju unutar tjedan dana od ugriza zaraženog nametnika, uključuju visoku temperaturu, slabost i malaksalost životinje, povraćanje, proljev, krvavo mokrenje, krv u stolici. Ponekad je jedini simptom to što životinja postaje osjetno mirnija, usporena. Ponekad ima tek smanjen apetit i eventualno povrati. S obzirom na to da cijeli niz različitih simptoma, ponekad naizgled bezazlenih, može ukazivati na ovu smrtonosnu bolest, važno je pomno pratiti stanje ljubimca i redovito pregledavati njegovu kožu. Ako se navrijeme otkrije, ova je bolest izlječiva.
