Jačina potresa uglavnom se mjeri Richterovom ljestvicom. Nakon što prođe određeni period od potresa, može se izražavati i Merkalijevom ljestvicom, piše National Geographics.

Rihterova ljestvica najčešći je standard za mjerenje potresa. Ona je nastala 1935., a njezin autor je američki seizmolog Charles F. Richter s Tehnološkog instituta u Kaliforniji. Ova ljestvica mjeri magnitudu potresa, odnosno količinu oslobođene energije, koja se računa pomoću informacija koje kupi seizmograf.

Ova ljestvica je logaritmička, što znači da skokovi cijelih brojeva ukazuju na desetostruko povećanje u amplitudi valova. To znači da je amplituda vala kod potresa šestog levela deset puta veća od onog petog levela te da između potresa sedmog i devetog levela postoji stostruko uvećanje amplitude. Količina oslobođene energije se povećava 31,7 puta između svake vrijednosti s cijelim brojem.

Većina potresa je veoma slaba i jačina im je manja od tri na Richterovoj ljestvici. Samo mali broj potresa - tek oko 15 od 1,4 milijuna potresa, koji su iznad 2,0 - budu jačine 7 ili više na Richterovoj ljestvici - što se smatra velikim potresom. 

Najveći zabilježeni potres u povijesti imao je 9,5 stupnjeva Rihtera i pogodio je Čile 1960. godine. Usmrtio je gotovo 1.900 ljudi i uzrokovao štetu od oko 4 milijarde dolara. Uglavnom nećete vidjeti nikakvu štetu od potresa koji se registriraju ispod 4 stupnja na Richterovoj ljestvici.

Jačina potresa uglavnom se mjeri Richterovom ljestvicom. Nakon što prođe određeni period od potresa, može se izražavati i Merkalijevom ljestvicom, piše National Geographics.

Rihterova ljestvica najčešći je standard za mjerenje potresa. Ona je nastala 1935., a njezin autor je američki seizmolog Charles F. Richter s Tehnološkog instituta u Kaliforniji. Ova ljestvica mjeri magnitudu potresa, odnosno količinu oslobođene energije, koja se računa pomoću informacija koje kupi seizmograf.

Ova ljestvica je logaritmička, što znači da skokovi cijelih brojeva ukazuju na desetostruko povećanje u amplitudi valova. To znači da je amplituda vala kod potresa šestog levela deset puta veća od onog petog levela te da između potresa sedmog i devetog levela postoji stostruko uvećanje amplitude. Količina oslobođene energije se povećava 31,7 puta između svake vrijednosti s cijelim brojem.

Većina potresa je veoma slaba i jačina im je manja od tri na Richterovoj ljestvici. Samo mali broj potresa - tek oko 15 od 1,4 milijuna potresa, koji su iznad 2,0 - budu jačine 7 ili više na Richterovoj ljestvici - što se smatra velikim potresom. 

Najveći zabilježeni potres u povijesti imao je 9,5 stupnjeva Rihtera i pogodio je Čile 1960. godine. Usmrtio je gotovo 1.900 ljudi i uzrokovao štetu od oko 4 milijarde dolara. Uglavnom nećete vidjeti nikakvu štetu od potresa koji se registriraju ispod 4 stupnja na Richterovoj ljestvici.

Jačina potresa uglavnom se mjeri Richterovom ljestvicom. Nakon što prođe određeni period od potresa, može se izražavati i Merkalijevom ljestvicom, piše National Geographics.

Rihterova ljestvica najčešći je standard za mjerenje potresa. Ona je nastala 1935., a njezin autor je američki seizmolog Charles F. Richter s Tehnološkog instituta u Kaliforniji. Ova ljestvica mjeri magnitudu potresa, odnosno količinu oslobođene energije, koja se računa pomoću informacija koje kupi seizmograf.

Ova ljestvica je logaritmička, što znači da skokovi cijelih brojeva ukazuju na desetostruko povećanje u amplitudi valova. To znači da je amplituda vala kod potresa šestog levela deset puta veća od onog petog levela te da između potresa sedmog i devetog levela postoji stostruko uvećanje...
