Određeno vrijeme treba proći da pojedini film postane božićni klasik. No, sada, godinama nakon premijere, reklo bi se da "Vilenjak" ("Elf, 2003.) redatelja Jona Favreaua s Willom Ferrellom u glavnoj ulozi odgovara toj klasifikaciji ili barem tituli božićnog mini-klasika.

"Vilenjak" je u startu bio prihvaćen i zauzeo visoko sedmo mjesto na listi najvećih kinohitova 2003., ilustracije radi ispred "Terminatora 3" i trećeg "Matrixa", da bi u relativno kratkom roku postao jedan od nezaobilaznih filmova blagdanskog TV programa diljem svijeta.

Mala je šansa da iz jedne praznične sezone u drugu nećete naletjeti na njega u božićnom televizijskom paketu zajedno s većim ili manjim klasicima kao što su "Apartman", "Divan život", "Gremlini", "Sam u kući", "Umri muški", "Kolo sreće", "Daj mi sebe", "Zarobljeni u raju", "Sam u kući 2", "Luda božićna zvona"...

Može se konstatirati da je "Elf" jedan od posljednjih (novijih) božićnih klasika zajedno s "Love Actually", pa i "Bad Santa". Za koliko se filmova nešto slično može reći nakon 2003. godine? Možda samo za "The Holiday" i "Polar Express". To sigurno nije nijedan film iz dvijetisuće i desetih ("Božić kod zločestih mama", "Last Christmas"...), a teško da će i postati.

Kakvi su, pak, dometi recentnih božićnih komedija ("Sam u kući 6", "Ništa od Božića ove godine", "Ljubav u božićno doba", "Najbolji Božić ikad"..."), ne računajući solidni "Spirited" također s Ferrellom u glavnoj ulozi, "Vilenjak" samo raste u očima i narastao je poprilično na novo gledanje.

Nakon što se "Elf" zadnjih nekoliko godina vrtio na televiziji u podlozi obiteljskih ručkova, večera ili druženja, red je bio proslaviti njegovu obljetnicu gledanjem "family friendly" filma kako spada. U oko odmah upada koliko je "Vilenjak" iz današnje optike staromodan, ugodan i dobronamjeran u širenju božićnog veselja, za razliku od nerijetko ciničnih i nasilnih novovjekih božićnih filmova poput "Krampusa", "Better Watch Out", "Divlje noći"...

"Elf" kao da je preslika pravila vilenjaka izgovorenih u filmu. Vilenjaci vole pričati priče, tretiraju svaki dan kao Božić, smatraju kako na "listi dobrih" Djeda Mraza ima mjesta za sve (čak i one "zločeste") te da je najbolji način za širenje božićnog veselja glasno pjevanje.

Film započinje bajkovitom naracijom pripovjedača priče, Papa Elfa (Bob Newhart). "Oh, zdravo, vjerojatno ste ovdje zbog priče", kaže on i započne storiju o Buddyju (Ferrell), čovjeku koji je odgojen s vilenjacima na Sjevernom polu otkako se kao beba uvukao u vreću s poklonima Djeda Mraza (Edward Asner).

Iako je triput veći od ostale djece, Buddy je prihvaćen u vilenjačkom svijetu. "Ti si jednostavno... poseban", govore Buddyju. Kad odraste i navrši 30 godina, Buddy napokon shvaća da nije vilenjak i odlazi u New York pronaći biološkog oca i doznati tko je zapravo.

Odjeven u zeleni kostim vilenjaka s žutim tajicama i šiljastim cipelama na nogama, Buddy strši u New Yorku i komedija se temelji na "riba izvan vode" konceptu, dovodeći drukčijeg, neprilagođenog i/li naivnog lika u američki velegrad ("Krokodil Dundee", "Morska sirena u New Yorku", "Blizanci").

Buddyjev susret s okretnim vratima, pokretnim stepenicama i "lažnim" Djedom Mrazom neke su od zabavnijih scena "Vilenjaka" koji "fish out of water" humor ubacuje u božićni film s klasičnim toponimima. Tako, Buddyjev otac Walter (James Caan), izdavač dječjih knjiga, svojevrsni je Grinch/Scrooge tip i nalazi se na "listi zločestih": zaboravio je što je važno u životu, tj. zapustio sina (Daniel Tay) i suprugu (Mary Steenburgen).

Naravno, Buddy će kao dijete u tijelu odraslog muškarca tretirati svaki dan kao Božić i širiti božićno veselje na sve oko sebe, od djevojke iz robne kuće Jovie (neodoljiva Zooey Deschanel) do oca Waltera, a Ferrell to dočarava s puno entuzijazma, prenoseći dobru energiju na gledatelja.

Walteru i cijelom ciničnom New Yorku/svijetu treba malo božićnog duha. Saonice Djeda Mraza ne mogu poletjeti zbog kroničnog nedostatka božićnog duha što ih pogoni, ali stvar, dakako, spašava Buddy uz malu pomoć Jovie koja će nasred grada povesti pjesmu "Santa Claus Is Comin’ To Town". Najbolji način za širenje božićnog veselja je glasno pjevanje.

Zapaženu epizodnu ulogu ostvario je Peter Dinklage kao pisac knjiga za djecu kojeg Buddy zamijeni za vilenjaka.

Određeno vrijeme treba proći da pojedini film postane božićni klasik. No, sada, godinama nakon premijere, reklo bi se da "Vilenjak" ("Elf, 2003.) redatelja Jona Favreaua s Willom Ferrellom u glavnoj ulozi odgovara toj klasifikaciji ili barem tituli božićnog mini-klasika.

"Vilenjak" je u startu bio prihvaćen i zauzeo visoko sedmo mjesto na listi najvećih kinohitova 2003., ilustracije radi ispred "Terminatora 3" i trećeg "Matrixa", da bi u relativno kratkom roku postao jedan od nezaobilaznih filmova blagdanskog TV programa diljem svijeta.

Mala je šansa da iz jedne praznične sezone u drugu nećete naletjeti na njega u božićnom televizijskom paketu zajedno s većim ili manjim klasicima kao što su "Apartman", "Divan život", "Gremlini", "Sam u kući", "Umri muški", "Kolo sreće", "Daj mi sebe", "Zarobljeni u raju", "Sam u kući 2", "Luda božićna zvona"...

Može se konstatirati da je "Elf" jedan od posljednjih (novijih) božićnih klasika zajedno s "Love Actually", pa i "Bad Santa". Za koliko se filmova nešto slično može reći nakon 2003. godine? Možda samo za "The Holiday" i "Polar Express". To sigurno nije nijedan film iz dvijetisuće i desetih ("Božić kod zločestih mama", "Last Christmas"...), a teško da će i postati.

Kakvi su, pak, dometi recentnih božićnih komedija ("Sam u kući 6", "Ništa od Božića ove godine", "Ljubav u božićno doba", "Najbolji Božić ikad"..."), ne računajući solidni "Spirited" također s Ferrellom u glavnoj ulozi, "Vilenjak" samo raste u očima i narastao je poprilično na novo gledanje.

Nakon što se "Elf" zadnjih nekoliko godina vrtio na televiziji u podlozi obiteljskih ručkova, večera ili druženja, red je bio proslaviti njegovu obljetnicu gledanjem "family friendly" filma kako spada. U oko odmah upada koliko je "Vilenjak" iz današnje optike staromodan, ugodan i dobronamjeran u širenju božićnog veselja, za razliku od nerijetko ciničnih i nasilnih novovjekih božićnih filmova poput "Krampusa", "Better Watch Out", "Divlje noći"...

"Elf" kao da je preslika pravila vilenjaka izgovorenih u filmu. Vilenjaci vole pričati priče, tretiraju svaki dan kao Božić, smatraju kako na "listi dobrih" Djeda Mraza ima mjesta za sve (čak i one "zločeste") te da je najbolji način za širenje božićnog veselja glasno pjevanje.

Film započinje bajkovitom naracijom pripovjedača priče, Papa Elfa (Bob Newhart). "Oh, zdravo, vjerojatno ste ovdje zbog priče", kaže on i započne storiju o Buddyju (Ferrell), čovjeku koji je odgojen s vilenjacima na Sjevernom polu otkako se kao beba uvukao u vreću s poklonima Djeda Mraza (Edward Asner).

Iako je triput veći od ostale djece, Buddy je prihvaćen u vilenjačkom svijetu. "Ti si jednostavno... poseban", govore Buddyju. Kad odraste i navrši 30 godina, Buddy napokon shvaća da nije vilenjak i odlazi u New York pronaći biološkog oca i doznati tko je zapravo.

Odjeven u zeleni kostim vilenjaka s žutim tajicama i šiljastim cipelama na nogama, Buddy strši u New Yorku i komedija se temelji na "riba izvan vode" konceptu, dovodeći drukčijeg, neprilagođenog i/li naivnog lika u američki velegrad ("Krokodil Dundee", "Morska sirena u New Yorku", "Blizanci").

Buddyjev susret s okretnim vratima, pokretnim stepenicama i "lažnim" Djedom Mrazom neke su od zabavnijih scena "Vilenjaka" koji "fish out of water" humor ubacuje u božićni film s klasičnim toponimima. Tako, Buddyjev otac Walter (James Caan), izdavač dječjih knjiga, svojevrsni je Grinch/Scrooge tip i nalazi se na "listi zločestih": zaboravio je što je važno u životu, tj. zapustio sina (Daniel Tay) i suprugu (Mary Steenburgen).

Naravno, Buddy će kao dijete u tijelu odraslog muškarca tretirati svaki dan kao Božić i širiti božićno veselje na sve oko sebe, od djevojke iz robne kuće Jovie (neodoljiva Zooey Deschanel) do oca Waltera, a Ferrell to dočarava s puno entuzijazma, prenoseći dobru energiju na gledatelja.

Walteru i cijelom ciničnom New Yorku/svijetu treba malo božićnog duha. Saonice Djeda Mraza ne mogu poletjeti zbog kroničnog nedostatka božićnog duha što ih pogoni, ali stvar, dakako, spašava Buddy uz malu pomoć Jovie koja će nasred grada povesti pjesmu "Santa Claus Is Comin’ To Town". Najbolji način za širenje božićnog veselja je glasno pjevanje.
