Neshvatljiv je potez čelnika kompanije Walt Disney Pictures da upriliče premijeru novog filma o Predatoru na streaming servisu umjesto u kinima. Taj film, "prequel" serijala naslovljen "Prey" ("Lovina"), mogao je biti jedan od najvećih kinodogađaja ljeta na valu proslave 35. godišnjice nezaboravnog prvog "Predatora" Johna McTiernana.

Filmovi o ikoničkom izvanzemaljskom čudovištu donosili su sasvim solidne novce čak i kad nisu bili dobri. Posljednja dva dijela zvučne SF akcijsko-hororske franšize, "Predator: Evolucija" Shanea Blacka i "Predatori" Nimroda Antala iz 2018. i 2010. godine, zaradili su 160, tj. preko 125 milijuna dolara u svjetskim kinima.

A "Prey" je kvalitetniji od njih i mnogi već odlaze toliko daleko da film proglašavaju izvrsnim i ponajboljim u serijalu, premda je realnije pozicionirati ga na treće mjesto nakon originala i "Predatora 2" Stephena Hopkinsa. Okej, Predator bi se proteklog vikenda morao hrvati s popularnim Bradom Pittom ("Brzina metka"), ali ako iz tog duela ne bi izašao kao pobjednik, mogao je barem zauzeti box-office poziciju ispred istrajnih hitova "DC Liga superljubimaca", "Nikako", "Thor: Ljubav i Grom" i "Malci 2: Kako je Gru postao Gru".

"Prey" bi vjerojatno ostavio snažniji dojam da je pogledan na velikom ekranu, osobito u šumovitom splitskom ljetnom kinu gdje će početkom rujna obljetnicu proslaviti izvorni "Predator" kojemu ovaj film dođe kao pred-pred-prednastavak. Bez legendarnog "Predatora" i podcijenjenog, a prilično impresivnog "Predatora 2", tko zna bi li se uopće dogodio "Prey" s potentnom pričom o prvom dolasku svemirskog lovca na Zemlju, u doba Indijanaca 1719. godine.

Mitologija monstruozna i tehnološki napredna izvanzemaljca ("hi-tech" oružje, nevidljivost) briljantno je naviještena u prvom filmu u kojem je Predator lovio američke mačo specijalce na čelu sa Schwarzeneggerom u džungli Srednje Amerike, te proširena u drugom, gdje se okomio na policajce i kriminalce u urbanoj džungli, također tražeći dostojnog oponenta.

Lokalka iz džungle (Anna) otkrila je Amerikancima da je stvorenje lovilo muškarce iz njezina sela još dok je ona bila dijete, a jedan od specijalaca bio je – indijanskog podrijetla (Billy). Na kraju drugog dijela policajac u tumačenju Dannyja Glovera dobio je od starog Predatora trofejni samokrijes iz 1715., čime je natuknuto da predatorski lov na Zemlji seže nekoliko stoljeća unatrag.

Isti taj samokrijes naći će se i u filmu "Prey" i serijal će napraviti puni krug do "Predatora 2", odavajući počast originalu kad jedan Indijanac izgovori mitske Schwarzeneggerove riječi "Ako krvari, možemo ga ubiti". Koscenarist i redatelj Dan Trachtenberg ("10 Cloverfield Lane") bio je na tragu nečeg iznimnog u domišljatom konceptu i potencijal filma "Prey" je neupitan, ali ne posve iskorišten koliko je mogao biti da ovo bude remek-djelo kalibra "Predatora".

Koncept je blizak svakome tko je ikad zamišljao kako bi izgledao "Posljednji Mohikanac" ili "Apocalypto" s Predatorom ili da se izvanzemaljac našao u nekom stripu o Zagoru, ali da se protiv njega ne bori Duh sa sjekirom nego njegova indijanska ljubav Pupoljak čiju ljepotu utjelovljuje junakinja iz Comanche plemena po imenu Naru (jako dobra Amber Midthunder; "Ledena cesta").

Trachtenberg daje razloga za veselje i svakome tko je, gledajući stare filmove i čitajući stripove, maštao o tome što bi bilo da se Predator dokači sa zmijom, vukom i, napose, medvjedom. Scena s golemim grizlijem najdojmljivije je orkestrirana uz masakr trapera: nevidljivi Predator postaje na trenutke vidljiv svaki put kad netko od njih dvoje prokrvari u žaru borbe, a vidimo ga i nešto više nakon što se po njemu prelije krv ubijenog medvjeda.

Bila bi to možda i jedna od najboljih scena serijala da medvjed nije preočito računalno animiran i da ne pretvara "Prey" u "Knjigu o džungli". Srećom, "diznifikacija" Predatora ne ide puno dalje od CGI životinja i "woke" tretmana protagonistice isprve nalik Disney princezi, u ovom slučaju Pocahontas. Svi muškarci podcjenjuju ili marginaliziraju Naru jer lov nije za žene, od njezinog brata Taabea (Dakota Beavers), do samog Predatora (Dane DiLiegro); izvanzemaljac ispočetka ne misli da mu je ona prijetnja.

Međutim, Naru se za inat želi svima dokazati, i to u ultimativnom lovu – na stvorenje koje lovi nju, a Predator je na vrhu hranidbenog lanca svih stvorenja. To što je ovaj put glavni lik žena zgodan je link prema "Alienu" i čuvenoj akcijskoj junakinji Ripley, pa i "Predatoru" kao subverzivnom filmu o izvanzemaljcu s licem nalik vagini (dentati) koji je desetkovao nabildane frajere.

Nažalost, Trachtenberg neće pretvoriti film u "Aliens" s mitskim sudarom dviju "ženki", niti postići tenzičnu kinetiku "Predatora" i "Apocalypta" u scenama skrivanja i potjere po šumi, ali umije ovjekovječiti neke sugestivne trenutke, poput bojnog pokliča Indijanke naoružane "tomahawkom" na konopu i njezinog mazanja ratničkim bojama od izvanzemaljčeve fluorescentno zelene krvi, te dati novi, još ružniji izgled monstrumu da čak i više djeluje kao praiskonsko "čudovište iz dječje priče".

Vrijeme radnje omogućilo je Trachtenbergu i da se poigra mitologijom revizionističkog vesterna i Divljeg zapada pa Predatora hvata u kadru koji evocira Johna Waynea u "Tragačima", odnosno da se, pojavom trapera, gorih od njega, koji ubijaju bizone i deru im kožu, dotakne tema poput kolonijalizma, imperijalizma i istrebljenja Indijanaca.

Bilo bi još bolje da je Predator pretvoren u nekakvog zaštitnika Indijanaca od ratobornih bijelaca, kao što je u prvom filmu bio svojevrsni Vijetnamac u ratu protiv Amerikanaca. Ipak, Predator respektira Indijance sa sličnom kulturom časnog lova i respekta prema lovini, za razliku od trapera koji ne znaju što će ih snaći. Predator je na ratnoj stazi.

Dosad najružniji 'motherfucker'

Jedna od mana je lice Predatora koji je dosad najružniji "motherfucker" u serijalu i gotovo da ne sliči na sebe. Odjavna špica u formi stripovskih crteža efektno prepričava radnju filma i najavljuje mogući nastavak. P.S. Ako treba poredati "Predator" filmove od najboljeg do najslabijeg, poredak bi išao ovako...

Neshvatljiv je potez čelnika kompanije Walt Disney Pictures da upriliče premijeru novog filma o Predatoru na streaming servisu umjesto u kinima. Taj film, "prequel" serijala naslovljen "Prey" ("Lovina"), mogao je biti jedan od najvećih kinodogađaja ljeta na valu proslave 35. godišnjice nezaboravnog prvog "Predatora" Johna McTiernana.

Filmovi o ikoničkom izvanzemaljskom čudovištu donosili su sasvim solidne novce čak i kad nisu bili dobri. Posljednja dva dijela zvučne SF akcijsko-hororske franšize, "Predator: Evolucija" Shanea Blacka i "Predatori" Nimroda Antala iz 2018. i 2010. godine, zaradili su 160, tj. preko 125 milijuna dolara u svjetskim kinima.

A "Prey" je kvalitetniji od njih i mnogi već odlaze toliko daleko da film proglašavaju izvrsnim i ponajboljim u serijalu, premda je realnije pozicionirati ga na treće mjesto nakon originala i "Predatora 2" Stephena Hopkinsa. Okej, Predator bi se proteklog vikenda morao hrvati s popularnim Bradom Pittom ("Brzina metka"), ali ako iz tog duela ne bi izašao kao pobjednik, mogao je barem zauzeti box-office poziciju ispred istrajnih hitova "DC Liga superljubimaca", "Nikako", "Thor: Ljubav i Grom" i "Malci 2: Kako je Gru postao Gru".

"Prey" bi vjerojatno ostavio snažniji dojam da je pogledan na velikom ekranu, osobito u šumovitom splitskom ljetnom kinu gdje će početkom rujna obljetnicu proslaviti izvorni "Predator" kojemu ovaj film dođe kao pred-pred-prednastavak. Bez legendarnog "Predatora" i podcijenjenog, a prilično impresivnog "Predatora 2", tko zna bi li se uopće dogodio "Prey" s potentnom pričom o prvom dolasku svemirskog lovca na Zemlju, u doba Indijanaca 1719. godine.

Mitologija monstruozna i tehnološki napredna izvanzemaljca ("hi-tech" oružje, nevidljivost) briljantno je naviještena u prvom filmu u kojem je Predator lovio američke mačo specijalce na čelu sa Schwarzeneggerom u džungli Srednje Amerike, te proširena u drugom, gdje se okomio na policajce i kriminalce u urbanoj džungli, također tražeći dostojnog oponenta.

Lokalka iz džungle (Anna) otkrila je Amerikancima da je stvorenje lovilo muškarce iz njezina sela još dok je ona bila dijete, a jedan od specijalaca bio je – indijanskog podrijetla (Billy). Na kraju drugog dijela policajac u tumačenju Dannyja Glovera dobio je od starog Predatora trofejni samokrijes iz 1715., čime je natuknuto da predatorski lov na Zemlji seže nekoliko stoljeća unatrag.

Isti taj samokrijes naći će se i u filmu "Prey" i serijal će napraviti puni krug do "Predatora 2", odavajući počast originalu kad jedan Indijanac izgovori mitske Schwarzeneggerove riječi "Ako krvari, možemo ga ubiti". Koscenarist i redatelj Dan Trachtenberg ("10 Cloverfield Lane") bio je na tragu nečeg iznimnog u domišljatom konceptu i potencijal filma "Prey" je neupitan, ali ne posve iskorišten koliko je mogao biti da ovo bude remek-djelo kalibra "Predatora".

Koncept je blizak svakome tko je ikad zamišljao kako bi izgledao "Posljednji Mohikanac" ili "Apocalypto" s Predatorom ili da se izvanzemaljac našao u nekom stripu o Zagoru, ali da se protiv njega ne bori Duh sa sjekirom nego njegova indijanska ljubav Pupoljak čiju ljepotu utjelovljuje junakinja iz Comanche plemena po imenu Naru (jako dobra Amber Midthunder; "Ledena cesta").

Trachtenberg daje razloga za veselje i svakome tko je, gledajući stare filmove i čitajući stripove, maštao o tome što bi bilo da se Predator dokači sa zmijom, vukom i, napose, medvjedom. Scena s golemim grizlijem najdojmljivije je orkestrirana uz masakr trapera: nevidljivi Predator postaje na trenutke vidljiv svaki put kad netko od njih dvoje prokrvari u žaru borbe, a vidimo ga i nešto više nakon što se po njemu prelije krv ubijenog medvjeda.

Bila bi to možda i jedna od najboljih scena serijala da medvjed nije preočito računalno animiran i da ne pretvara "Prey" u "Knjigu o džungli". Srećom, "diznifikacija" Predatora ne ide puno dalje od CGI životinja i "woke" tretmana protagonistice isprve nalik Disney princezi, u ovom slučaju Pocahontas. Svi muškarci podcjenjuju ili marginaliziraju Naru jer lov nije za žene, od njezinog brata Taabea (Dakota Beavers), do samog Predatora (Dane DiLiegro); izvanzemaljac ispočetka ne misli da mu je ona prijetnja.

Međutim, Naru se za inat želi svima dokazati, i to u ultimativnom lovu – na stvorenje koje lovi nju, a Predator je na vrhu hranidbenog lanca svih stvorenja. To što je ovaj put glavni lik žena zgodan je link prema "Alienu" i čuvenoj akcijskoj junakinji Ripley, pa i "Predatoru" kao subverzivnom filmu o izvanzemaljcu s licem nalik vagini (dentati) koji je desetkovao nabildane frajere.

Nažalost, Trachtenberg neće pretvoriti film u "Aliens" s mitskim sudarom dviju "ženki", niti postići tenzičnu kinetiku "Predatora" i "Apocalypta" u scenama skrivanja i potjere po šumi, ali umije ovjekovječiti neke sugestivne trenutke, poput bojnog pokliča Indijanke naoružane "tomahawkom" na konopu i njezinog mazanja ratničkim bojama od izvanzemaljčeve fluorescentno zelene krvi, te dati novi, još ružniji izgled monstrumu da čak i više djeluje kao praiskonsko "čudovište iz dječje priče".

Vrijeme radnje omogućilo je Trachtenbergu i da se poigra mitologijom revizionističkog vesterna i Divljeg zapada pa Predatora hvata u kadru koji evocira Johna Waynea u "Tragačima", odnosno da se, pojavom trapera, gorih od njega, koji ubijaju bizone i deru im kožu, dotakne tema poput kolonijalizma, imperijalizma i istrebljenja Indijanaca.

Bilo bi još bolje da je Predator pretvoren u nekakvog zaštitnika Indijanaca od ratobornih bijelaca, kao što je u prvom filmu bio svojevrsni Vijetnamac u ratu protiv Amerikanaca. Ipak, Predator respektira Indijance sa sličnom kulturom časnog lova i respekta prema lovini, za razliku od trapera koji ne znaju što će ih snaći. Predator je na ratnoj stazi.

Dosad najružniji 'motherfucker'

Jedna od mana je lice Predatora koji je dosad najružniji "motherfucker" u serijalu i gotovo da ne sliči na sebe. Odjavna špica u formi stripovskih crteža efektno prepričava radnju filma i najavljuje mogući nastavak. P.S. Ako treba poredati "Predator" filmove od najboljeg do najslabijeg, poredak bi išao ovako...
