Imitacije "Noći vještica" namnožile su se od 1978. nadalje, nakon što je film preuzeo štafetu od "Teksaškog masakra motornom pilom" i "Crnog Božića", definiravši "slasher" kao novi podžanr horora s maskiranim ubojicom i posljednjom (preživjelom) djevojkom, kraljicom vriska.

Do 1980. je snimljen "Petak 13.", Jamie Lee Curtis je iste godine i sama glumila u "halloweenovskom" tipu "slashera" kao što su "Terror Train" i "Prom Night". Bilo je, tako, pitanje dana kad će "Halloween" dobiti nastavak kad ga je već 1981. dobio "Friday The 13th". I pola godine nakon drugog dijela "Petka 13." u kina je stigla i "Noć vještica II" ("Halloween II", 1981.). Carpenter je ostavio prostor za nastavak priče zahvaljujući otvorenom kraju.

Dr. Loomis (Donald Pleasence) višestruko je napucao njegovog pacijenta pobjeglog iz umobolnice Michaela Myersa i potvrdio Laurie Strode da je on "baba roga". Nastrijeljeni Michael je pao s balkona na tratinu, ali i nestao odatle do trenutka kad je doktor pogledao dolje da se uvjeri je li mrtav, odnosno još je na slobodi.

"Noć vještica II" je uspostavila nasljedstvo budućeg serijala i Curtis kao njegov neizostavni dio, zvijezdu horora i najveću kraljicu vrisku. U "Friday The 13 Part II" nije bilo glumice iz prethodnika, a zvijezda prve "Strave u Ulici brijestova" Heather Langenkamp pojavila se opet samo u trećem i sedmom dijelu.

Povratak Jamie Lee u "Halloweenu II" sugerirao je da je njezina heroina Laurie jednako važna kao maskirani ubojica s kuhinjskim nožem Myers i glumila je u još pet filmova iz serijala, uključujući novu "Noć vještica" te njezine nastavke podnaslovljene "Kills" i "Ends". Laurie je toliko važna da ju je u "Halloweenu II" koscenarist i koproducent Carpenter pretvorio u Michaelovu sestru, nadodavši pozadinsku priču o njezinom posvajanju, kako bi dobila odgovor na pitanje "Zašto ja?".

Korijene obiteljskog stabla s razlogom su posjekli noviji filmovi budući da je Myers u "Noći vještica II" ispao "običan" manijak s obiteljskim problemima (ubio je jednu sestru kao šestogodišnjak, sad želi i drugu) umjesto neobjašnjivo "boogeymansko" stvorenje koje se ne da zaustaviti i nije "čak ni izdaleka ljudsko", kako je Michaela titulirao dr. Loomis.

"Napucao sam ga šest puta! Pogodio sam ga u srce, ali on nije ljudsko biće", govori Loomis u uvodu "Halloweena II" u vezi Myersa koji je ubojit i nezaustavljiv poput morskog psa iz "Ralja" ili Terminatora. "Noć vještica II" u tom smislu skače sebi u usta, ali po pitanju svega drugoga ovo je, baš kao "Jaws 2", više nego solidan nastavak i vjeran prethodniku, premija u odnosu na većinu ostalih "sequela".

Nakon kratkog podsjetnika na završna zbivanja prvog filma, priča nastavlja točno gdje je on stao, u stilu "Rockyja II" spram "Rockyja I". Laurie je odvezena u bolnicu, a Loomis traga za Michaelom. Film uvlači gledatelja u zbivanja otvarajući se pogledom iz Myersove perspektive u neprekinutom subjektivnom kadru od par minuta, slično izvornom "Halloweenu", što je tehnika kojom se, referirajući se baš na "slashere", okoristio i veliki Brian De Palma u uvodnoj sekvenciji "Pucanj nije brisan".

Novi režiser Rick Rosenthal fino oponaša Carpenterov "subjektivni" izričaj i vraća mu se još nekoliko puta, tipa kad Michael uzme nož iz jedne kuće i njime ubije neku nesretnicu u drugoj. Rosenthal je imao tu sreću da je za snimatelja opet angažiran Carpenterov kućni direktor fotografije Dean Cundey ("Magla", "Bijeg iz New Yorka", "Velika gužva u Kineskoj četvrti").

Netko bi praktički mogao reći da je i "Noć vještica II" režirao Carpenter, što je Rosenthalu kompliment. Odaje ga znatno veća količina ubojstava, krvi i golotinje, na čemu je navodno inzistirao sam Carpenter kako bi se "Halloween II" mogao nositi s konkurentima na box-officeu i nadmašiti ih, koja je ništa za pojmove novijih filmova serijala.

S obzirom da je radnja većinski smještena u bolnici, Myers operira i skalpelom i injekcijama, a jednu će razgolićenu medicinsku sestru ubiti utapanjem u kadi za fizikalnu terapiju napunjenoj vrućom vodom. Neke scene umorstava kojima prethode "lažni alarmi" prilično su klišeizirane, iako su tada to bili klišeji u nastajanju.

No, Rosenthal izvrće očekivanja kad se jedan lik poklizne na krv i ostane ležati bez svijesti u lokvi crvene boje, a udarac u glavu je ostavio posljedice na njemu toliko da se opet onesvijestio u odsudnom trenutku kad je mogao pomoći Laurie. Rosenthalova režijska taktika je uglavnom "carpenterovska".

Michael izranja iz tame s jezivom bijelom maskom i većinski boravi u drugom planu kadra, tek povremeno dolazeći u prvi, proganja Laurie i ostale žrtve hodajući s noge na nogu i vraća se opet i iznova nezaustavljiv kakav jest. "Zašto odbija umrijeti?", pita se Laurie pred kraj filma. Pitanje je iz današnje perspektive krajnje retoričko.

Magloviti kraj

Zanimljivo je da film završava kadrovima magle kao mogućom referencijom na "The Fog". Myers će se, dakako, vratiti kad se magla raščisti.

Imitacije "Noći vještica" namnožile su se od 1978. nadalje, nakon što je film preuzeo štafetu od "Teksaškog masakra motornom pilom" i "Crnog Božića", definiravši "slasher" kao novi podžanr horora s maskiranim ubojicom i posljednjom (preživjelom) djevojkom, kraljicom vriska.

Do 1980. je snimljen "Petak 13.", Jamie Lee Curtis je iste godine i sama glumila u "halloweenovskom" tipu "slashera" kao što su "Terror Train" i "Prom Night". Bilo je, tako, pitanje dana kad će "Halloween" dobiti nastavak kad ga je već 1981. dobio "Friday The 13th". I pola godine nakon drugog dijela "Petka 13." u kina je stigla i "Noć vještica II" ("Halloween II", 1981.). Carpenter je ostavio prostor za nastavak priče zahvaljujući otvorenom kraju.

Dr. Loomis (Donald Pleasence) višestruko je napucao njegovog pacijenta pobjeglog iz umobolnice Michaela Myersa i potvrdio Laurie Strode da je on "baba roga". Nastrijeljeni Michael je pao s balkona na tratinu, ali i nestao odatle do trenutka kad je doktor pogledao dolje da se uvjeri je li mrtav, odnosno još je na slobodi.

"Noć vještica II" je uspostavila nasljedstvo budućeg serijala i Curtis kao njegov neizostavni dio, zvijezdu horora i najveću kraljicu vrisku. U "Friday The 13 Part II" nije bilo glumice iz prethodnika, a zvijezda prve "Strave u Ulici brijestova" Heather Langenkamp pojavila se opet samo u trećem i sedmom dijelu.

Povratak Jamie Lee u "Halloweenu II" sugerirao je da je njezina heroina Laurie jednako važna kao maskirani ubojica s kuhinjskim nožem Myers i glumila je u još pet filmova iz serijala, uključujući novu "Noć vještica" te njezine nastavke podnaslovljene "Kills" i "Ends". Laurie je toliko važna da ju je u "Halloweenu II" koscenarist i koproducent Carpenter pretvorio u Michaelovu sestru, nadodavši pozadinsku priču o njezinom posvajanju, kako bi dobila odgovor na pitanje "Zašto ja?".

Korijene obiteljskog stabla s razlogom su posjekli noviji filmovi budući da je Myers u "Noći vještica II" ispao "običan" manijak s obiteljskim problemima (ubio je jednu sestru kao šestogodišnjak, sad želi i drugu) umjesto neobjašnjivo "boogeymansko" stvorenje koje se ne da zaustaviti i nije "čak ni izdaleka ljudsko", kako je Michaela titulirao dr. Loomis.

"Napucao sam ga šest puta! Pogodio sam ga u srce, ali on nije ljudsko biće", govori Loomis u uvodu "Halloweena II" u vezi Myersa koji je ubojit i nezaustavljiv poput morskog psa iz "Ralja" ili Terminatora. "Noć vještica II" u tom smislu skače sebi u usta, ali po pitanju svega drugoga ovo je, baš kao "Jaws 2", više nego solidan nastavak i vjeran prethodniku, premija u odnosu na većinu ostalih "sequela".

Nakon kratkog podsjetnika na završna zbivanja prvog filma, priča nastavlja točno gdje je on stao, u stilu "Rockyja II" spram "Rockyja I". Laurie je odvezena u bolnicu, a Loomis traga za Michaelom. Film uvlači gledatelja u zbivanja otvarajući se pogledom iz Myersove perspektive u neprekinutom subjektivnom kadru od par minuta, slično izvornom "Halloweenu", što je tehnika kojom se, referirajući se baš na "slashere", okoristio i veliki Brian De Palma u uvodnoj sekvenciji "Pucanj nije brisan".

Novi režiser Rick Rosenthal fino oponaša Carpenterov "subjektivni" izričaj i vraća mu se još nekoliko puta, tipa kad Michael uzme nož iz jedne kuće i njime ubije neku nesretnicu u drugoj. Rosenthal je imao tu sreću da je za snimatelja opet angažiran Carpenterov kućni direktor fotografije Dean Cundey ("Magla", "Bijeg iz New Yorka", "Velika gužva u Kineskoj četvrti").

Netko bi praktički mogao reći da je i "Noć vještica II" režirao Carpenter, što je Rosenthalu kompliment. Odaje ga znatno veća količina ubojstava, krvi i golotinje, na čemu je navodno inzistirao sam Carpenter kako bi se "Halloween II" mogao nositi s konkurentima na box-officeu i nadmašiti ih, koja je ništa za pojmove novijih filmova serijala.

S obzirom da je radnja većinski smještena u bolnici, Myers operira i skalpelom i injekcijama, a jednu će razgolićenu medicinsku sestru ubiti utapanjem u kadi za fizikalnu terapiju napunjenoj vrućom vodom. Neke scene umorstava kojima prethode "lažni alarmi" prilično su klišeizirane, iako su tada to bili klišeji u nastajanju.

No, Rosenthal izvrće očekivanja kad se jedan lik poklizne na krv i ostane ležati bez svijesti u lokvi crvene boje, a udarac u glavu je ostavio posljedice na njemu toliko da se opet onesvijestio u odsudnom trenutku kad je mogao pomoći Laurie. Rosenthalova režijska taktika je uglavnom "carpenterovska".

Michael izranja iz tame s jezivom bijelom maskom i većinski boravi u drugom planu kadra, tek povremeno dolazeći u prvi, proganja Laurie i ostale žrtve hodajući s noge na nogu i vraća se opet i iznova nezaustavljiv kakav jest. "Zašto odbija umrijeti?", pita se Laurie pred kraj filma. Pitanje je iz današnje perspektive krajnje retoričko.

Magloviti kraj

Zanimljivo je da film završava kadrovima magle kao mogućom referencijom na "The Fog". Myers će se, dakako, vratiti kad se magla raščisti.
