Odluka FIPRESCI žirija o pobjedniku nedavnog 18. ZagrebDoxa, međunarodnog festivala dokumentarnog filma, donesena je prilično brzo. Možda i nikad brže u odnosu na sve dosadašnje (ne nužno FIPRESCI) žirije u kojima je sudjelovao potpisnik ovih redaka.

Jedan film isplivao je kao vodeći iz sekcije već na prvom sastanku žirija s uvaženim kolegama iz Francuske i Slovenije, kad smo komentirali i analizirali sve što smo dotad pogledali. Vodeći je ostao i sve do našeg posljednjeg sastanka. Nagradu FIPRESCI žirija 18. ZagrebDoxa zasluženo je osvojio "The Bubble" austrijske redateljice Valerie Blankenbyl.

Objašnjenje žirija, iz pera ovog autora, preslikava cijeli film kao "The Bubble", recimo to tako, "in a nutshell". Dakle, ukratko...

Divovski starački dom na Floridi postaje preslik ne samo američkog društva u opservacijskom dokumentarcu o jednoj maloj izoliranoj zajednici preko koje redateljica govori nešto i o "vanjskom" svijetu dok njezin film uspijeva istodobno biti intiman i sociopolitičan, human i humorističan, ozbiljan i ironičan.

Preseljeni smo na Floridu, točnije u tamošnju umirovljeničku zajednicu "The Villages", najveću takvu u Americi i na svijetu, zatvorenu od vanjskog svijeta. Naime, "The Villages" zauzima površinu veličine gotovo kao dva Manhattana, s tendencijom da bude i trostruko veći, možda i četverostruko, a nalazi se daleko od promjenjivog i nerijetko hladnog newyorškog vremena – u najsunčanijoj američkoj državi, takozvanoj "Sunshine State".

Sunce i plavo nebo umjesto sivih oblaka, na mjestu nalik američkom gradu ili barem predgrađu kojem "The Villages" ionako nalikuje s bijelim ogradama ispred kućica i uredno pokošenom tratinom, kao u "Plavom baršunu" Davida Lyncha, oslikavajući krišku "americane".

Ovaj umirovljenički kompleks je definitivno sve samo ne "selo"; ima svoju radiostanicu (podružnicu desno orijentiranog Fox Newsa) i novine. To je "najbrže rastuća zajednica u SAD-u" od nekih 150.000 umirovljenika, većinom bijelaca, i to mahom konzervativnih republikanaca, situiranih, iz gornjeg sloja američkog društva, koji pozdravljaju jedni druge tipično američki "Howdy-Howdy".

Zadržimo li se još malo na brojkama, recimo da umirovljenici na raspolaganju imaju 70-ak bazena, preko 50 golf terena i 100 rekreacijskih centara, a tu su i društveni klubovi, restorani, barovi... "Mnogi od vas preselili su se ovdje dolje u sunčanu Floridu da se umirove, recite amen", slušamo "propovjednika" kako se obraća umirovljenicima na "misi".

"Amen", doista: umirovljenici žive kao bubreg u loju i uživaju u starosti koja "nije za mlakonje". "Kad smo odrastali, dom za umirovljenike je bio mjesto gdje odlaziš umrijeti. Ovo mjesto dodaje deset godina tvom životu ", komentira jedna umirovljenica koju pobliže upoznajemo.

Umirovljenici dodavaju deset godina životu posvemašnjim opuštanjem i ugodom: oni šetaju pse, plešu trbušni ples i sentiše, plivaju, bicikliraju, čak i pucaju na streljani, odavajući svoj republikanski karakter i sklonost Trumpu kojeg većina njih simpatizira (dokumentarac se snimao u vrijeme njegovog predsjedničkog mandata).

"Mi smo u mjehuru, ali to je lijep mjehur", kaže druga umirovljenica. Unutarnja perspektiva je idilična jer mnogi žitelji zajednice "ne znaju što se događa", no ispod idile krije se trulež modernog (ne samo) američkog društva. Ono "vanjsko", što austrijska filmašica (raz)otkriva neutralnim okom autsajderice, prilično je daleko od idile.

"The Villages" gazi sve pred sobom: lokalce iz okolnih okruga koji dosad nisu prodali svoju zemlju prisiljava se da to naprave. Nažalost, tako kapitalizam i ekonomija funkcioniraju, a male ljude i prirodu tko šljivi, vidljivo prema prilagođavaju umirovljeničkog kompleksa pogodnostima bogatih (klasna nejednakost), ugrožavanju biljnih (krčenje zemlje) i životinjskih vrsta (netko opaža da se ovdje ne čuju kukci!?) te prekomjernom trošenju vode za zalijevanje nepreglednih travnjaka.

A svaki put kad kamera Joea Bergera preleti preko arhitekture golemog zdanja, stvarajući efektne "tlocrtne" kadrove, "The Villages" izgleda sve više artificijalno i diskonektirano od stvarnosti, kao set "Trumanovog showa", ako ne i "Grada tame", poprište nekakvog "čudnog socijalnog eksperimenta". Čudnost je sumirana kad jedan umirovljenik u završnici filma zapjeva na karaokama Radioheadovu pjesmu "Creep". Stihovi "But I'm a creep, I'm a weirdo" odjavljuju "The Bubble" i finalno ga rasplinjuju.

Valerie Blankenbyl je studirala grafički dizajn i oglašavanje u Beču te pohađala rezidencijalni program za umjetnike u Italiji. Magistrirala je film u Švicarskoj.

Odluka FIPRESCI žirija o pobjedniku nedavnog 18. ZagrebDoxa, međunarodnog festivala dokumentarnog filma, donesena je prilično brzo. Možda i nikad brže u odnosu na sve dosadašnje (ne nužno FIPRESCI) žirije u kojima je sudjelovao potpisnik ovih redaka.

Jedan film isplivao je kao vodeći iz sekcije već na prvom sastanku žirija s uvaženim kolegama iz Francuske i Slovenije, kad smo komentirali i analizirali sve što smo dotad pogledali. Vodeći je ostao i sve do našeg posljednjeg sastanka. Nagradu FIPRESCI žirija 18. ZagrebDoxa zasluženo je osvojio "The Bubble" austrijske redateljice Valerie Blankenbyl.

Objašnjenje žirija, iz pera ovog autora, preslikava cijeli film kao "The Bubble", recimo to tako, "in a nutshell". Dakle, ukratko...

Divovski starački dom na Floridi postaje preslik ne samo američkog društva u opservacijskom dokumentarcu o jednoj maloj izoliranoj zajednici preko koje redateljica govori nešto i o "vanjskom" svijetu dok njezin film uspijeva istodobno biti intiman i sociopolitičan, human i humorističan, ozbiljan i ironičan.

Preseljeni smo na Floridu, točnije u tamošnju umirovljeničku zajednicu "The Villages", najveću takvu u Americi i na svijetu, zatvorenu od vanjskog svijeta. Naime, "The Villages" zauzima površinu veličine gotovo kao dva Manhattana, s tendencijom da bude i trostruko veći, možda i četverostruko, a nalazi se daleko od promjenjivog i nerijetko hladnog newyorškog vremena – u najsunčanijoj američkoj državi, takozvanoj "Sunshine State".

Sunce i plavo nebo umjesto sivih oblaka, na mjestu nalik američkom gradu ili barem predgrađu kojem "The Villages" ionako nalikuje s bijelim ogradama ispred kućica i uredno pokošenom tratinom, kao u "Plavom baršunu" Davida Lyncha, oslikavajući krišku "americane".

Ovaj umirovljenički kompleks je definitivno sve samo ne "selo"; ima svoju radiostanicu (podružnicu desno orijentiranog Fox Newsa) i novine. To je "najbrže rastuća zajednica u SAD-u" od nekih 150.000 umirovljenika, većinom bijelaca, i to mahom konzervativnih republikanaca, situiranih, iz gornjeg sloja američkog društva, koji pozdravljaju jedni druge tipično američki "Howdy-Howdy".

Zadržimo li se još malo na brojkama, recimo da umirovljenici na raspolaganju imaju 70-ak bazena, preko 50 golf terena i 100 rekreacijskih centara, a tu su i društveni klubovi, restorani, barovi... "Mnogi od vas preselili su se ovdje dolje u sunčanu Floridu da se umirove, recite amen", slušamo "propovjednika" kako se obraća umirovljenicima na "misi".

"Amen", doista: umirovljenici žive kao bubreg u loju i uživaju u starosti koja "nije za mlakonje". "Kad smo odrastali, dom za umirovljenike je bio mjesto gdje odlaziš umrijeti. Ovo mjesto dodaje deset godina tvom životu ", komentira jedna umirovljenica koju pobliže upoznajemo.

Umirovljenici dodavaju deset godina životu posvemašnjim opuštanjem i ugodom: oni šetaju pse, plešu trbušni ples i sentiše, plivaju, bicikliraju, čak i pucaju na streljani, odavajući svoj republikanski karakter i sklonost Trumpu kojeg većina njih simpatizira (dokumentarac se snimao u vrijeme njegovog predsjedničkog mandata).

"Mi smo u mjehuru, ali to je lijep mjehur", kaže druga umirovljenica. Unutarnja perspektiva je idilična jer mnogi žitelji zajednice "ne znaju što se događa", no ispod idile krije se trulež modernog (ne samo) američkog društva. Ono "vanjsko", što austrijska filmašica (raz)otkriva neutralnim okom autsajderice, prilično je daleko od idile.

"The Villages" gazi sve pred sobom: lokalce iz okolnih okruga koji dosad nisu prodali svoju zemlju prisiljava se da to naprave. Nažalost, tako kapitalizam i ekonomija funkcioniraju, a male ljude i prirodu tko šljivi, vidljivo prema prilagođavaju umirovljeničkog kompleksa pogodnostima bogatih (klasna nejednakost), ugrožavanju biljnih (krčenje zemlje) i životinjskih vrsta (netko opaža da se ovdje ne čuju kukci!?) te prekomjernom trošenju vode za zalijevanje nepreglednih travnjaka.

A svaki put kad kamera Joea Bergera preleti preko arhitekture golemog zdanja, stvarajući efektne "tlocrtne" kadrove, "The Villages" izgleda sve više artificijalno i diskonektirano od stvarnosti, kao set "Trumanovog showa", ako ne i "Grada tame", poprište nekakvog "čudnog socijalnog eksperimenta". Čudnost je sumirana kad jedan umirovljenik u završnici filma zapjeva na karaokama Radioheadovu pjesmu "Creep". Stihovi "But I'm a creep, I'm a weirdo" odjavljuju "The Bubble" i finalno ga rasplinjuju.

Magistrirala film u Švicarskoj

Valerie Blankenbyl je studirala grafički dizajn i oglašavanje u Beču te pohađala rezidencijalni program za umjetnike u Italiji. Magistrirala je film u Švicarskoj.
