Duge 34 godine nakon premijere, mišićavi transžanrovski klasik "Predator" Johna McTiernana još uvijek inspirira filmaše da se maše sličnog visokog koncepta i pokušaju snimiti nešto približno jednako pamtljivo. Grk Dimitri Logothetis posljednji je u nizu redatelja i scenarista koji se odvažio oprobati na terenu nenadmašnog McTiernana.

U prijašnjim borilačkim akcijskim filmovima direktno-na-video etikete ("Kickboxer: Retaliation", "Wings Of the Dragon") Logothetis se pozicionirao kao sušta suprotnost autorima "grčkog čudnog vala" poput Yorgosa Lanthimosa. Uzor ovog Grka je, dakle, prije žanrovac George P. Cosmatos ("Kobra"), ne festivalac Lanthimos ("Očnjak").

Logothetis nastavlja u revijalnom akcijskom "martial-arts" tonu i u novom filmu "Jiu Jitsu" koji je dosad "najveći" u njegovoj karijeri i dobacio je do hrvatskih kina, gdje se prikazuje od danas, lažno mameći publiku facama kao što su oskarovac Nicolas Cage, azijski udarač Tony Jaa i opaki frajer Frank Grillo, premda se oni nalaze u sporednim ulogama, a glavnu riječ vodi novi "kickboxer" Alain Moussi.

"Jiu Jitsu" je "na papiru" zvučao kao obećavajući maskulini križanac "Predatora" i "Krvavog sporta" ili "Mortal Kombata". Svakih šest godina pojava kometa na nebu signalizira da će kroz portal u džungli jugoistočne Azije proći izvanzemaljski ratnik i izazvati na borbu odabrane Zemljane, tj. uništiti planet ukoliko se oni ne odazovu izazovu.

Koncept je zgodan i ima unutrašnju međužanrovsku logiku u filmu cijepljenom logike, počevši od toga da se zove "Jiu Jitsu", iako se u njemu rabe mješovite borilačke vještine. Naime, Van Damme se izvorno našao u kostimu Predatora u akcijskim scenama istoimena filma, no dao je (ili dobio) otkaz zbog teških radnih uvjeta.

Ubrzo potom je postao zvijezda s hitom "Bloodsport", ali nije nikad snimio nešto slično, premda je želio omjeriti snage s nekim "predatorskim" vanzemaljcem ili monstrumom. Znači, Logothetis zamišlja kako bi bilo da se neki "martial-arts" junak bori(o) s Predatorom umjesto Schwarzeneggera, što je okej, međutim "Jiu Jitsu" ne dobacuje dalje od jeftine kopije dvaju isprepletenih kultnih uzora.

Problema je mnogo. Moussi je, bez daljnjega, odličan borac, ali nema karizmu i pojavnost Scotta Adkinsa, kamoli Van Dammea kojeg je nedostojno naslijedio u "Kickboxerima". "Predator" je bio hororsko-trilerski iznimno tenzičan komad akcijskog SF-a, nabildan napetošću poput Schwarzeggera dok je došljak iz galaksije vrebao i lovio američke specijalce u južnoameričkoj džungli, a od tenzija u "Jiu Jitsu" nema ni "t".

Izvanzemaljac/svemirac zvani Brax (Ryan Tarran), kojeg "cageovski" ekscentričan Cageov lik naziva "znanstveno-fantastični ratnik filozof", svojevrsni je Predator za siromašne. Braxova je karakterizacija slična kao Predatorova (posjeduje kodeks čast i "voli hrabre borce"), ali je lišen njegove osobnosti i osjećaja za filozofska (protu)pitanja "what a hell are you".

Ima zato infra-pogled lišen McTiernanove vizije u dometu eksperimentalne/avangardne kinematografije i po potrebi nevidljivo odijelo kupljeno na sniženju ili uličnoj rasprodaji kod majstora maske koji je Predatora greškom projicirao kao Power Rangera. Akcijska koreografija nije "mctiernanovska" rapsodija, no povremeno je vidno umješnija od ostalih tehnikalija filma.

Borbeni kadrovi su duži u skladu s trendom "Johna Wicka", a Logothetis se pri početku poigrava s pozicijama kamere, odnosno dodava perspektivama, šarajući od subjektivne "hardcore-henryjevske" do objektivne, kad se Moussi i Jaa naizmjence bore s mnoštvom američkih vojnika, izbjegavajući njihove metke.

Na trenutke kamera i Moussijev heroj postaju jedno i to je doista efektno za vidjeti na velikom ekranu. Šteta što su mnoge ostale borilačke scene režijski izvedene neuverljivo, gotovo traljavo, osobito one s Cageomu ulozi Wylieja, rijetkom svijetlom točkicom filma.

Wylie je kratki spoj Ramba zaostalog u vijetnamskoj džungli (duga kosa, marama oko glave) i ćaknutog Dennisa Hoppera iz "Apokalipse danas" ("ray ban" naočale), tip koji od novina radi šešire za glavu itd. "Glumi da je lud", kažu za Cageova lika u filmu i lažu. Cage ne glumi. On jest.

Velike face za male uloge

Logothetis voli angažirati velike face za male uloge: u "Kickboxeru" je pred kamerom imao Van Dammea, Mikea Tysona i Christophera Lamberta.

Duge 34 godine nakon premijere, mišićavi transžanrovski klasik "Predator" Johna McTiernana još uvijek inspirira filmaše da se maše sličnog visokog koncepta i pokušaju snimiti nešto približno jednako pamtljivo. Grk Dimitri Logothetis posljednji je u nizu redatelja i scenarista koji se odvažio oprobati na terenu nenadmašnog McTiernana.

U prijašnjim borilačkim akcijskim filmovima direktno-na-video etikete ("Kickboxer: Retaliation", "Wings Of the Dragon") Logothetis se pozicionirao kao sušta suprotnost autorima "grčkog čudnog vala" poput Yorgosa Lanthimosa. Uzor ovog Grka je, dakle, prije žanrovac George P. Cosmatos ("Kobra"), ne festivalac Lanthimos ("Očnjak").

Logothetis nastavlja u revijalnom akcijskom "martial-arts" tonu i u novom filmu "Jiu Jitsu" koji je dosad "najveći" u njegovoj karijeri i dobacio je do hrvatskih kina, gdje se prikazuje od danas, lažno mameći publiku facama kao što su oskarovac Nicolas Cage, azijski udarač Tony Jaa i opaki frajer Frank Grillo, premda se oni nalaze u sporednim ulogama, a glavnu riječ vodi novi "kickboxer" Alain Moussi.

"Jiu Jitsu" je "na papiru" zvučao kao obećavajući maskulini križanac "Predatora" i "Krvavog sporta" ili "Mortal Kombata". Svakih šest godina pojava kometa na nebu signalizira da će kroz portal u džungli jugoistočne Azije proći izvanzemaljski ratnik i izazvati na borbu odabrane Zemljane, tj. uništiti planet ukoliko se oni ne odazovu izazovu.

Koncept je zgodan i ima unutrašnju međužanrovsku logiku u filmu cijepljenom logike, počevši od toga da se zove "Jiu Jitsu", iako se u njemu rabe mješovite borilačke vještine. Naime, Van Damme se izvorno našao u kostimu Predatora u akcijskim scenama istoimena filma, no dao je (ili dobio) otkaz zbog teških radnih uvjeta.

Ubrzo potom je postao zvijezda s hitom "Bloodsport", ali nije nikad snimio nešto slično, premda je želio omjeriti snage s nekim "predatorskim" vanzemaljcem ili monstrumom. Znači, Logothetis zamišlja kako bi bilo da se neki "martial-arts" junak bori(o) s Predatorom umjesto Schwarzeneggera, što je okej, međutim "Jiu Jitsu" ne dobacuje dalje od jeftine kopije dvaju isprepletenih kultnih uzora.

Problema je mnogo. Moussi je, bez daljnjega, odličan borac, ali nema karizmu i pojavnost Scotta Adkinsa, kamoli Van Dammea kojeg je nedostojno naslijedio u "Kickboxerima". "Predator" je bio hororsko-trilerski iznimno tenzičan komad akcijskog SF-a, nabildan napetošću poput Schwarzeggera dok je došljak iz galaksije vrebao i lovio američke specijalce u južnoameričkoj džungli, a od tenzija u "Jiu Jitsu" nema ni "t".

Izvanzemaljac/svemirac zvani Brax (Ryan Tarran), kojeg "cageovski" ekscentričan Cageov lik naziva "znanstveno-fantastični ratnik filozof", svojevrsni je Predator za siromašne. Braxova je karakterizacija slična kao Predatorova (posjeduje kodeks čast i "voli hrabre borce"), ali je lišen njegove osobnosti i osjećaja za filozofska (protu)pitanja "what a hell are you".

Ima zato infra-pogled lišen McTiernanove vizije u dometu eksperimentalne/avangardne kinematografije i po potrebi nevidljivo odijelo kupljeno na sniženju ili uličnoj rasprodaji kod majstora maske koji je Predatora greškom projicirao kao Power Rangera. Akcijska koreografija nije "mctiernanovska" rapsodija, no povremeno je vidno umješnija od ostalih tehnikalija filma.

Borbeni kadrovi su duži u skladu s trendom "Johna Wicka", a Logothetis se pri početku poigrava s pozicijama kamere, odnosno dodava perspektivama, šarajući od subjektivne "hardcore-henryjevske" do objektivne, kad se Moussi i Jaa naizmjence bore s mnoštvom američkih vojnika, izbjegavajući njihove metke.

Na trenutke kamera i Moussijev heroj postaju jedno i to je doista efektno za vidjeti na velikom ekranu. Šteta što su mnoge ostale borilačke scene režijski izvedene neuverljivo, gotovo traljavo, osobito one s Cageomu ulozi Wylieja, rijetkom svijetlom točkicom filma.

Wylie je kratki spoj Ramba zaostalog u vijetnamskoj džungli (duga kosa, marama oko glave) i ćaknutog Dennisa Hoppera iz "Apokalipse danas" ("ray ban" naočale), tip koji od novina radi šešire za glavu itd. "Glumi da je lud", kažu za Cageova lika u filmu i lažu. Cage ne glumi. On jest.

Logothetis voli angažirati velike face za male uloge: u "Kickboxeru" je pred kamerom imao Van Dammea, Mikea Tysona i Christophera Lamberta.
