"Učinilo mi se da čujem nešto što nije zvučalo normalno." – "Duhovi tame" (2021.)

Udarni novitet u američkim i hrvatskim kinima za ovogodišnji Halloween vikend bio je horor "Duhovi tame" ("Antlers"), ali nije se uspio izboriti za vrh gledanosti pored "Noć vještica ubija", jednako kao ni "Posljednja noć u Sohou". Donekle je to razumljivo. "Duhovi tame" nisu franšizni horor s imenom i prezimenom, a ni klasični primjerak strave i užasa, već takozvani "uzvišeni".

Etiketa podrazumijeva da je takav ("elevated") horor smrtno ozbiljan, a da njegove tenzije imaju sporogoreći ritam i festivalsko-umjetničke pretenzije, što ne odgovara najširoj (multipleks) publici. Zasigurno bi film bolje prošao da se otvorio na prvopredviđenom datumu u travnju 2020., daleko od Halloweena i "Halloweena", ali korona je učinila svoje i dovela do jednoipolgodišnje odgode.

Tada, početkom 2020., "Antlers" se snažnije reklamirao i bio zapaženiji u oku/uhu filmo(horor)fila – "coming attraction". Najavljivao se kao film koji je ujedinio nezavisnije orijentiranog dramskog režisera Scotta Coopera ("Ludo srce", "Čelična pravda", "Crna misa", "Neprijatelji") i, u ulozi producenta, legendarnog hitmejkera i oskarovca Guillerma Del Tora, specijaliziranog za mračne bajke na rubu horora koje podjednako voli režirati ("Panov labirint", "Crimson Peak", "Oblik vode") i producirati ("Ne boj se mraka", "Mama", "Vještice").

U međuvremenu, od travnja 2021. do listopada 2021., pomalo je pao u zaborav i nije imao jak marketing pred Halloween. Hrvatsku publiku je mogao odbiti i ponešto generički naslov "Duhovi tame", s ključnim riječima koje su pojedinačno prečesto ukrasile horore.

Pa ipak, naslov je dobar budući da "Antlers" doista jest film o duhovima i tami. Zlim duhovima i tami u čovjeku. Duhovi potječu od američkih starosjedioca, "bili su ovdje dugo prije nas i bit će dugo nakon nas, a sada su ljuti", kako u filmu objašnjava "Native American" lik (Graham Greene; "Ples s vukovima").

Starosjedioce spominje i učiteljica Julia Meadows (solidna Keri Russell), podučavajući učenike da je s njima počelo pripovijedanje, usmena predaja prema kojima su nastavi mitovi, bajke i basne, nesvjesna da će s imati posla jednim od duhova. To je "Vendigo", "amorfan duh koji može poprimiti mnoga obličja" uključujući čovjeka.

Duh je ušao u ovisnika o "methu" Franka Weavera (Scott Haze), stanovnika malog rudarskog grada u Oregonu i oca dvojice sinova, Lucasa i Aidena (Jeremy T. Thomas, Sawyer Jones), nakon što ga je u rudniku napala nekakva neprirodno režajuća zvijer, skrivena u tunelskom mraku. Frank se izolira na tavanu kuće kao da je inficiran nekakvim bjesnilom i izgleda kao da bi se svaki čas mogao pretvoriti u zombija ili vukodlaka, odnosno da bi nešto moglo – i hoće – "izbiti" iz njega, poput Aliena.

Kad Lucasova učiteljica Julia svrati do njegove kuće sluteći da bi dječak mogao biti zlostavljan kao što je ona i sama bila u djetinjstvu, učinit će joj se da čuje "nešto što nije zvučalo normalno", a dvostruko je jezivo ako nakon kina iskusite nenormalno zujanje vjetra spuštajući se pješke niz stepenište zgrade, kao što je iskusio potpisnik ovih redaka.

Istovremeno, Julijin brat, šerif Paul (uvijek dobri Jesse Plemons), pronalazi sve više ljudi koji izgledaju kao da ih je "nešto napola pojelo", "medvjed ili puma", pri čemu su tragovi zubi ljudski, ali i sugeriraju nekog monstruma, točnije "mitološku zvijer prirode", rogato čudovište nalik Grootu iz pakla.

Postavka filma je, dakle, točno po mjeri Coopera i Del Tora, filmaša koje zanima tama iznutra (čovjek) i izvana (mjesto gdje se kriju čudovišta) kao izvor traume, boli i horora, bio on dramski ili bajkoviti, svejedno.

U ovom ekonomski razorenom gradiću napučenom đankijima mogao bi se odvijati "Winter's Bone", ali i Cooperov "Out Of The Furnace" od kojeg "Antlers" preuzima "blue collar" likove razbijene iznutra, pridodaje im mitološku beštiju iz mašte Del Tora i priču ušuškava u nadnaravno ruho.

Međutim, film bi bio (još) bolji da se smjestio negdje na zlatnoj sredini između dvojice filmaša, a ne pretežno na Cooperovoj dramskoj strani. Nedostaje mu, naime, opipljiviji Del Torov magični "touch" da bajkoviti horor bude potpuniji.

Del Toro i ‘noir‘

Del Toro će do kraja godine predstaviti i novi (režijski) film, moderni "noir" nazvan "Nightmare Alley", a upravo snima mračnu verziju "Pinokija".

"Učinilo mi se da čujem nešto što nije zvučalo normalno." – "Duhovi tame" (2021.)

Udarni novitet u američkim i hrvatskim kinima za ovogodišnji Halloween vikend bio je horor "Duhovi tame" ("Antlers"), ali nije se uspio izboriti za vrh gledanosti pored "Noć vještica ubija", jednako kao ni "Posljednja noć u Sohou". Donekle je to razumljivo. "Duhovi tame" nisu franšizni horor s imenom i prezimenom, a ni klasični primjerak strave i užasa, već takozvani "uzvišeni".

Etiketa podrazumijeva da je takav ("elevated") horor smrtno ozbiljan, a da njegove tenzije imaju sporogoreći ritam i festivalsko-umjetničke pretenzije, što ne odgovara najširoj (multipleks) publici. Zasigurno bi film bolje prošao da se otvorio na prvopredviđenom datumu u travnju 2020., daleko od Halloweena i "Halloweena", ali korona je učinila svoje i dovela do jednoipolgodišnje odgode.

Tada, početkom 2020., "Antlers" se snažnije reklamirao i bio zapaženiji u oku/uhu filmo(horor)fila – "coming attraction". Najavljivao se kao film koji je ujedinio nezavisnije orijentiranog dramskog režisera Scotta Coopera ("Ludo srce", "Čelična pravda", "Crna misa", "Neprijatelji") i, u ulozi producenta, legendarnog hitmejkera i oskarovca Guillerma Del Tora, specijaliziranog za mračne bajke na rubu horora koje podjednako voli režirati ("Panov labirint", "Crimson Peak", "Oblik vode") i producirati ("Ne boj se mraka", "Mama", "Vještice").

U međuvremenu, od travnja 2021. do listopada 2021., pomalo je pao u zaborav i nije imao jak marketing pred Halloween. Hrvatsku publiku je mogao odbiti i ponešto generički naslov "Duhovi tame", s ključnim riječima koje su pojedinačno prečesto ukrasile horore.

Pa ipak, naslov je dobar budući da "Antlers" doista jest film o duhovima i tami. Zlim duhovima i tami u čovjeku. Duhovi potječu od američkih starosjedioca, "bili su ovdje dugo prije nas i bit će dugo nakon nas, a sada su ljuti", kako u filmu objašnjava "Native American" lik (Graham Greene; "Ples s vukovima").

Starosjedioce spominje i učiteljica Julia Meadows (solidna Keri Russell), podučavajući učenike da je s njima počelo pripovijedanje, usmena predaja prema kojima su nastavi mitovi, bajke i basne, nesvjesna da će s imati posla jednim od duhova. To je "Vendigo", "amorfan duh koji može poprimiti mnoga obličja" uključujući čovjeka.

Duh je ušao u ovisnika o "methu" Franka Weavera (Scott Haze), stanovnika malog rudarskog grada u Oregonu i oca dvojice sinova, Lucasa i Aidena (Jeremy T. Thomas, Sawyer Jones), nakon što ga je u rudniku napala nekakva neprirodno režajuća zvijer, skrivena u tunelskom mraku. Frank se izolira na tavanu kuće kao da je inficiran nekakvim bjesnilom i izgleda kao da bi se svaki čas mogao pretvoriti u zombija ili vukodlaka, odnosno da bi nešto moglo – i hoće – "izbiti" iz njega, poput Aliena.

Kad Lucasova učiteljica Julia svrati do njegove kuće sluteći da bi dječak mogao biti zlostavljan kao što je ona i sama bila u djetinjstvu, učinit će joj se da čuje "nešto što nije zvučalo normalno", a dvostruko je jezivo ako nakon kina iskusite nenormalno zujanje vjetra spuštajući se pješke niz stepenište zgrade, kao što je iskusio potpisnik ovih redaka.

Istovremeno, Julijin brat, šerif Paul (uvijek dobri Jesse Plemons), pronalazi sve više ljudi koji izgledaju kao da ih je "nešto napola pojelo", "medvjed ili puma", pri čemu su tragovi zubi ljudski, ali i sugeriraju nekog monstruma, točnije "mitološku zvijer prirode", rogato čudovište nalik Grootu iz pakla.

Postavka filma je, dakle, točno po mjeri Coopera i Del Tora, filmaša koje zanima tama iznutra (čovjek) i izvana (mjesto gdje se kriju čudovišta) kao izvor traume, boli i horora, bio on dramski ili bajkoviti, svejedno.

U ovom ekonomski razorenom gradiću napučenom đankijima mogao bi se odvijati "Winter's Bone", ali i Cooperov "Out Of The Furnace" od kojeg "Antlers" preuzima "blue collar" likove razbijene iznutra, pridodaje im mitološku beštiju iz mašte Del Tora i priču ušuškava u nadnaravno ruho.

Međutim, film bi bio (još) bolji da se smjestio negdje na zlatnoj sredini između dvojice filmaša, a ne pretežno na Cooperovoj dramskoj strani. Nedostaje mu, naime, opipljiviji Del Torov magični "touch" da bajkoviti horor bude potpuniji.

Del Toro će do kraja godine predstaviti i novi (režijski) film, moderni "noir" nazvan "Nightmare Alley", a upravo snima mračnu verziju "Pinokija".
