Prvi vidljivi znaci da je Božić već tu, bili su badnjaci, tri hrastova drveta što su se sjekli po okolnim brdima. Badnjaci su se na Badnju večer palili u neretvanskim kominima ili na otvorenom ispred crkava. Imali svoja imena, Adam i Eva i oni su gorjeli čitavu noć a ako ne bi potpuno izgorjeli ponovno bi se naložili na Novu godinu.
U neretvanskim selima puno je božićnih običaja i folklorne tradicije. Nažalost oni se danas gase, a sa njima nestaje sve ono što su naši stari godinama pomno njegovali i čuvali od zaborava.
Na badnju večer kuće su se kitile granama bršljana, unosila se slama koja je simbolizirala betlehemsku štalicu u kojoj se Isus rodio. Posebno je bilo zanimljivo čestitanje Božića. Ljudi se međusobno dozivali čestitajući Badnju večer. Domaćin kuće zove svoga susjeda i govori mu: - "Dobro ti došla Badnja večer i sutrašnje porođenje Gospodinovo".
Zatim mu ovaj odgovara: "I stobom Bog da zajedno ".
Badnji dan se strogo postio, jela se riba i liska. Netko je kuhao jegulju sa raštikom, netko pravio brudet, ovisio što je tko imao. Na Božić u podne običavao se božićni ručak. To je bila zajednička pobožnost na kojoj se slavilo Boga uz svijeće u čaši sa zelenom pšenicom-žegla se svijeća, tako su to nazivali u Neretvi. Ručak je tog dana bio bogatiji nego inače, obavezno se kuhala svinjska glava sa raštikom, pekla se janjetina ili svinjetina, zamotavala sarma. Svatko je tog dana gledao da se „omrsi“ pa makar postio čitavu godinu. Svjeće su se nakon objeda gase kriškom kruha umočenom u vino. Bile su uglavnom tri svijeće. Svaka od njih je dodjeljena nekome od ukućana. Pa se govorilo da će umrijeti te godine onaj čija svijeća najviše dogorjela.
Stari su običaji nalagali da se tijekom tri božićna dana nije hodalo po tuđima kućama ali su ipak najbliži susjedi prilazili jedni drugima i čestitali blagdane, mirbožili su se. Bilo je to vrijeme mirenja onih koji su se tijekom godine zavadili. Kod rodbine se odlazilo na Božić poslijepodne i onda bi se u goste ponijela naranča ili jabuka, a djeci oraha.
Drugi dan po Božiću blagdan je Svetog Stjepana a treći dan Sveti Ivan, što su posebno slavile obitelji koje su imali ukućane sa tim imenima.

Prvi vidljivi znaci da je Božić već tu, bili su badnjaci, tri hrastova drveta što su se sjekli po okolnim brdima. Badnjaci su se na Badnju večer palili u neretvanskim kominima ili na otvorenom ispred crkava. Imali svoja imena, Adam i Eva i oni su gorjeli čitavu noć a ako ne bi potpuno izgorjeli ponovno bi se naložili na Novu godinu.
U neretvanskim selima puno je božićnih običaja i folklorne tradicije. Nažalost oni se danas gase, a sa njima nestaje sve ono što su naši stari godinama pomno njegovali i čuvali od zaborava.
Na badnju večer kuće su se kitile granama bršljana, unosila se slama koja je simbolizirala betlehemsku štalicu u kojoj se Isus rodio. Posebno je bilo zanimljivo čestitanje Božića. Ljudi se međusobno dozivali čestitajući Badnju večer. Domaćin kuće zove svoga susjeda i govori mu: - "Dobro ti došla Badnja večer i sutrašnje porođenje Gospodinovo".
Zatim mu ovaj odgovara: "I stobom Bog da zajedno ".
Badnji dan se strogo postio, jela se riba i liska. Netko je kuhao jegulju sa raštikom, netko pravio brudet, ovisio što je tko imao. Na Božić u podne običavao se božićni ručak. To je bila zajednička pobožnost na kojoj se slavilo Boga uz svijeće u čaši sa zelenom pšenicom-žegla se svijeća, tako su to nazivali u Neretvi. Ručak je tog dana bio bogatiji nego inače, obavezno se kuhala svinjska glava sa raštikom, pekla se janjetina ili svinjetina, zamotavala sarma. Svatko je tog dana gledao da se „omrsi“ pa makar postio čitavu godinu. Svjeće su se nakon objeda gase kriškom kruha umočenom u vino. Bile su uglavnom tri svijeće. Svaka od njih je dodjeljena nekome od ukućana. Pa se govorilo da će umrijeti te godine onaj čija svijeća najviše dogorjela.
Stari su običaji nalagali da se tijekom tri božićna dana nije hodalo po tuđima kućama ali su ipak najbliži susjedi prilazili jedni drugima i čestitali blagdane, mirbožili su se. Bilo je to vrijeme mirenja onih koji su se tijekom godine zavadili. Kod rodbine se odlazilo na Božić poslijepodne i onda bi se u goste ponijela naranča ili jabuka, a djeci oraha.
Drugi dan po Božiću blagdan je Svetog Stjepana a treći dan Sveti Ivan, što su posebno slavile obitelji koje su imali ukućane sa tim imenima.
